The industry is becoming more conscientious of environmental management and are promoting sustainable production. But the dyeing industry is still recognized as one of the polluting industries which discharges wastewater. Therefore, efforts are being made to reduce wastewater using ultra low liquor ratio dyeing machines and foam dyeing. However, these techniques do not solve the basic problem of wastewater generation. The supercritical fluid dyeing(SFD) technique is a new dyeing process using supercritical carbon dioxide instead of water. To dye aramid(Nomex) spun yarn by SFD, a 3 liter SFD machine was designed and manufactured. C.I. Disperse Red 360, Red 60, Yellow 54 and Blue 56 were used in this work. Dyeing property and level dyeing of aramid fiber were improved by the incorporation of in-out/out-in circulation device, nozzle, and cover in the SFD system. Physical properties(tensile strength, elongation, shrinkage) of Nomex spun yarn treated by the SFD condition(13$0^{\circ}C$, 20 MPa, 60 min) were unaffected. Dyeing property of Nomex spun yarn with disperse dyes in the SFD increases as molecular weight of dyes decreases and as temperature and pressure of dyeing increases in the E type dyes. Colorfastness of dyed Nomex spun yarn by the SFD were acceptable except for wash fastness.

A pre-treatment method in the digital textile printing (DTP) of pigment ink is a necessary process for improving the color yield and colorfastness of printed fabrics. Depending on the type of binder used in the pre-treatment agent, the fabrics are influenced by the pre-treatment performance and touch. The vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) emulsion, which exhibits excellent adhesion properties, is used as a binder in a wide range of applications. Thus, the VAE emulsion is formulated to develop a pre-treatment agent for the DTP of pigment ink. In this study, pre-treatments developed using 12% VAE, 3% calcium chloride, 20% EG, and 1.5% fixative exhibits satisfactory results for pigment ink DTP.
Nonaqueous Dry Dyeing of Aramid Spun Yarn with Disperse Dyes Under Supercritical Solvent Medium

Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) is one of the most environmentally acceptable solvents in usetoday, and textile processes using it have many advantages when compared to conventional aqueous processes. Supercritical Fluid dyeing with carbon dioxide for aramid fiber (NOMEX) was studied. It is well known that the conventional dyeing of aramid fiber is very difficult or even impossible. But, it was newly found that supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) could be good solvent to dye a aramid. Supercritical Fluid dyeing experiment was performed in the temperature and pressure ranging from 10 MPa, 363.15 K to 30 MPa, 423.15 K. Through this experiment, we could confirm colorfastness and K/S value of dyed Aramid fiber by the supercritical fluid dyeing (SFD) was similar to that by conventional wet dyeing.
