Objective: To evaluate the effect of Sukjihwangbogan-tang-gagam (熟地黃補肝湯加減) in a patient with delayed vascular chorea. Methods: A vascular chorea patient was treated with acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine (Sukjihwangbogan-tang-gagam). Results: Improvements in the Unified Huntington’s Disease Rating Scale (UHDRS), UFMG Sydenham’s Chorea Rating Scale (USCRS) (especially the scale of Activity of Daily Living (ADL)) (dysarthria 2→0, tongue protrusion 3→1, chorea 3→1, handwriting 3→1), and a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) (8→2) were observed after the Sukjihwangbogan-tang-gagam treatment. Conclusions: Sukjihwangbogan-tang-gagam may be an effective treatment for patients with delayed vascular chorea.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of integrative treatment with conventional and Korean medicine on cerebral infarction due to presumed paradoxical embolism through a patent foramen ovale. Methods: We applied acupuncture, herbal medication, western medication, and physical therapy routinely every day and applied fluid therapy provided as needed. The NIHSS, K-MBI, MRS, MMT, and MMSE-K score were determined to assess any improvement in symptoms. Results: Scores appeared to be improved for the NIHSS (9 to 5), K-MBI (94 to 100), MRS (2 to 1), MMT (2+, 4 to 4, 4), MMSE-K (24 to 26). No side effects were observed during the treatment. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that integrative treatment with conventional and Korean medicine may be an effective option for treating cerebral infarction due to a presumed paradoxical embolism through a patent foramen ovale.

Objective: This clinical study was performed with a female patient to evaluate the effects of combined Eastern-Western medicine treatment on benign paroxysmal positional vertigo after acute vestibular neuritis.Method: We used acupuncture, herbal medication, Western medication, fluid therapy, and the canalith repositioning maneuver to treat a female patient suffering from dizzy spells. The vertigo scale was checked to assess any improvement in symptoms. Results: The patient had originally recovered from acute vestibular neuritis, but after the first discharge, she came down with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and had to be rehospitalized. She eventually got better, however, and her score on the vertigo scale improved. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that combined Eastern-Western medicine treatment may be an effective option for treating benign paroxysmal positional vertigo after acute vestibular neuritis, despite the difficulty of the treatment in this case.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of decompression treatment for herniated intervertebral lumbar disc. Methods Thirty eight patients with a diagnosis of herniated intervertebral lumbar disc(HIVD) by CT or MRI were treated with decom-pression treatment from January, 2013 to August, 2015. They were analyzed according to sex, age, the period of disease, ad-mission day, radiating pain and disc herniation level. Patients were evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS) before treatment, af-ter 5th treatment, after 10th treatment and before discharge. And we evaluated the degree of improvement by the status of pa-tients with pain and physical examination after treatment. Results VAS score of patients treated with decompression treatment significantly decreased from 8.5±1.7 to 3.1±1.6 and effective rate of patients receiving decompression treatment was 97.4%. VAS of patients accompanied by radiating pain was significantly lower than the patients no radiating pain. Conclusions This study suggests that decompression treatment is considered to be effective and reduce the duration of treatment on patients with herniated intervertebral lumbar disc.
