1. Objectives When we give Jowiseungcheong-tang to Taeumin patients, analyzing a change of their autonomic nervous system. It is measured by the heart rate variability(HRV) analyzer. 2. Methods We give Jowiseungcheong-tang to ten Taeumin patients for three days and examine the HRV at first time and three days later. 3. Results and Conclusions We compared two HRV results. The value of RRNN(average of normal RR intervals), SDNN(the standard deviation of all normal RR intervals), RMSSD(the root mean square of successive differences between the normal heart beats) have a downward tendency. Norm HF(normalized high frequency power) have a upward tendency. norm LF (normalized low frequency power) and LHR(LF/HF ratio) have a downward tendency. It means hypofunction of autonomic nervous system. But all results are not significant. We think that restudy is needed with more patients and longer periods afterward.

1. Objectives: Pharmacopuncture according to Sasang Constitutional Medicine is new field of constitutional medicine. We investigated safety of pharmacopunctures to develop this treatment. 2. Methods: We searched for papers in fifteen Korean oriental medical journals and four online searching portal articles. Hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity and general toxicity tests were investigated about one hundred thirty kinds of pharmacopunctures. 3. Results: Toxicity test about 36 kinds of 130 pharmacopunctures were investigated. 1) Hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity test of pharmacopunctures were searched in 11 of 38 Soeumin herbs, 8 of 36 Soyangin herbs, 5 of 44 Taeeumin herbs and 1 of 12 Taeyangin herbs. From among these herbs, toxicity was detected in Radix aconiti lateralis preparata(附子), Fructus alpiniae oxyphyllae(益智仁), Semen crotonis(巴豆), Radix bupleuri(柴胡) and Semen armeniacae amarum(杏仁) pharmacopunctures. 2) General toxicity test of pharmacopunctures were searched in 8 of 38 Soeumin herbs, 9 of 36 Soyangin herbs, 6 of 44 Taeeumin herbs and 2 of 12 Taeyangin herbs. from among thes herbs, toxicity was detected in Radix aconiti lateralis preparata(附子), Radix ginseng(人蔘), Semen crotonis(巴豆), Rhizoma seu radix notopterygii(羌活), Radix aralia cordatae(獨活), Semen armeniacae amarum(杏仁) and Radix scutellariae(黃芩) and Cortex acanthopanacis(五加皮) pharmacopunctures. 4. Conclusions: From these results, we must decide extraction method, concentration and dose carefully to use the toxic pharmacopuncture. More toxicity test and further study is needed about pharmacopuncture treatment in Sasang Constitutional Medicine.

국내 데이터베이스 검색을 통한 암성통증의 약침치료 임상연구 동향

Objectives: The effectiveness of acupuncture on cancer pain is relatively well established, while there have been few clinical studies on pharmacopuncture on that. This research was aimed to investigate a trend of pharmacopuncture treatment for cancer pain and to propose information for further research. Methods: Clinical studies on pharmacopuncture for cancer pain were collected from 5 Korean medical databases. And the studies were analyzed by classifications of cancer, chief complaints, interventions, treating skills, additional treatments, treatment session, outcome measures, results and adverse effects. Results: The literatures were 8 case reports and 1 randomized controlled trial. Interventions were pharmacopunctures of soyeom, mountain ginseng, Harpagophyti Radix, snake venom, Trionycis Carapax, bee venom, Aconitum Ciliare Decaisne. Treatment skills, procedures, and indications of each pharmacopuncture were different. An adverse effects of bruising, bleeding, mild chilling, sore throat and pain were mentioned on snake venom and bee venom treatment. Conclusions: An appropriate interventions and treatment skills should be selected according to the type of cancer pain. And treatment procedures to ensure safety must be developed.

Objectives The purpose of this review was to investigate constitutional medical research on tumors and to propose information for further research. Methods The literature was investigated from Oriental medicine advanced searching integrated system, China national knowledge infrastructure, and PubMed. The searching terms were cancer, tumor, neoplasm, Sasang constitution, and so on. And studies were collected and analyzed into the three parts of distributions, treatments, and preventions. Results The distribution and type of tumors were different depending on the type of Sasang constitution. The symptoms of a tumor can occur variously in all types of diseases or patterns. Preventing tumors and cultivating health should be considered all aspects of physical, mental, and social health in the Sasang constitutional concept of securing requisite energy of minor organs. Conclusions The Sasang constitutional medicine for treating tumors should be focused on strengthening the constitutional healthy energy considering personal characteristics.

사상체질별 관격(關格)치료 약물인 파두(巴豆), 감수(甘遂), 과신(瓜莘)의 문헌 고찰

1. Objectives I investigated the effects and mechanisms of Semen Tiglii(ST, 巴豆), Radix Euphorbiae Kansui(REK, 甘遂) and Pedicelus Melo(PM, 瓜莘) in the view of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 2. Methods I analyzed the literature about oriental medicine and Sasang Constitutional medicine related to herbal Medicine. The contents analyzed were efficacious disease, dosage, usage, side effect, toxicity. 3. Results The first, similarities of ST, REK and PM are improving Gwangyuk, the Chest Discomfort with Constipation, Dysuria and Nausea, toxic, used in urgency, asministered by itself and used shaped powder. The second, ST and REK used the diseases related water and food metabolism in Soumin and Soyangin. PM used the diseases related Qi and fluid metabolism in Taeumin. The third, diarrhea caused by ST and REK is symptom to retrieve the diseases related water and food metabolism. The vomiting caused by PM is symptom to retrieve the diseases related Qi and fluid metabolism. 4. Conclusions The ST, REK and PM is good herbal medicine (() retrieve the urgency symptom caused by the body unbalance in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. The proper dosage is essential because of toxicity of drugs.

흡입화상으로 유발된 만성 기관지염의 태음인 마황정천탕(麻黃定喘湯) 치험 1례

Objectives To report an improved case with Taeeumin Mahwangjeongcheon-tang on the patient with chronic bronchitis caused by an inhalation injury. Methods The patient had been suffered from cough, sputum, dyspnea, and chest discomfort for 15 years. He was diagnosed as Taeeumin Esophageal Cold Pattern and was given Mahwangjeongcheon-tang according to Sasang constitutional medical theory. The clinical asthma measurement scale in oriental medicine(CAMSOM-V), quality of life questionnaire for adult Korean asthmatics(QLQAKA), and Spirometry were performed to evaluate the improvement of his symptoms. Results The clinical asthma measurement scale in oriental medicine(CAMSOM-V) improved from 16 to 14 points and the quality of life questionnaire for adult Korean asthmatics(QLQAKA) improved from 55 to 67 points. In spirometry, forced vital capacity improved from 3.07 to 3.59, and forced expiratory volume in 1sec improved from 2.59 to 2.84 after 4 weeks. Conclusion This report suggests that Mahwangjeongcheon-tang is effective for chronic bronchitis.

1. Objectives: This study aims to report symptomatic improvement of a Soyangin persistent hiccup patient with Hyeongbangdojeoksan. 2. Methods: The patient was treated with Hyeongbangdojeok-san and acupunctural therapy. The patient's chief complaint and ordinaty symptoms were observed during the outpatient care period. 3. Results and Conclusions: In results, Soyangin patients's hiccup and ordinary symptom as well as improved. The management of the constitutional pathological syndromes by constitutional perspective than focusing on the symptoms of hiccups will provide more comfortable life and better health levels.

1. Objectives: The purpose of this study was verify the difference in digestion, feces, sweat and urination characteristics according to Sasang Constitution among subjects in the age range of their 20s and 60s. 2. Methods: Three hundred and thirty eight participants were recruited in the age range of their 20s and 264 participants in the age range of their 60s. All the participants' Sasang Constitutions were diagnosed by Sasang Constitutional medicine expert. Then their digestion, feces, sweat and urination characteristics were assessed through the questionnaire. 3. Results: 1)Regarding digestion, Soeumin in all age ranges had bad appetites and Soeumin in their 20s had low digestibility. 2)Regarding feces, the daily defecation frequency showed no difference according to constitution. Only Soeumin in their 20s showed diarrheal state of stool. 3)Regarding sweat, Taeeumin usually perspired more in their 20s and there was no difference in the feeling after sweating according to age and constitution. 4)Regarding urination, frequency and strength showed no difference according to age and constitution. 4. Conclusions: Some difference was observed in the digestion, feces and sweat characteristics according to Sasang Constitution but these characteristics were susceptible to change in different age ranges. There was no difference in urination according to constitution.

태음인 처방의 사상의학적 병리 연구

1. Objectives To evaluate effectiveness of one hundred thirty kinds of pharmacopuncture made of herbs used in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 2. Methods We searched at fifteen kinds of Korean oriental medical journals websites and four kinds of Korean oriental medicine databases. '약침', '수침', 'pharmacopuncture', 'aqua acupuncture' and 'herbal acupuncture' were keywords. Searching period was March to April 2010. 3. Results One hundred eighty three articles are searched. And these are the results. 1) A lot of Soeum herb pharmacopunctures are effective in anti-tumor, brain damage, rheumatoid arthritis. 2) A lot of Soyang herb pharmacopunctures are effective in kidney injury, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis. 3) A lot of Taeeum herb pharmacopunctures are effective in obesity, asthma, anti-tumor, anti-oxidation, rheumatoid arthritis. 4) Taeyang herb pharmacopunctures are effective in rheumatoid arthritis, amyotrophia. 4. Conclusions There was similar effectiveness between oral administration and pharmacopuncture in Sasang Constitutional herbs. It suggest that pharmacopuncture could be used for Sasang constitutional disease and symptoms. Well-designed clinical studies for Sasang constitutional pharmacopuncture are needed.
