Herpes zoster is viral infection that presents unilateral skin rash or vesicle along the sensory nerve. It is known that pediatric herpes zoster rarely occurs and usually not so severe when it developed, except in immunocompromised children. We report an uncommon case of herpes zoster ophthalmicus in a 9-year-old boy. He presented with acute onset of vesiculopapular rash covering his left forehead, upper eyelid. He was treated with oral acyclovir and stellate ganglion block, with complete resolution without sequelae. In addition, we also review the literature on herpes zoster in childhoods. Moyamoya disease is a rare progressive occlusive disease of the internal carotid arteries. We report a case of combined spinal-epidural anesthesia in a patient with Moyamoya disease presenting for Cesarean section. Hypotension associated with spinal anesthesia for Cesarean section is the most common and serious adverse effect despite the use of uterine displacement and volume preload. We continuously infused phenylephrine and ephedrine to prevent hypotension. The intraoperative hemodynamic state was stable. The patient had no significant postoperative complications.

As a method obtaining linear thrust force for the magnet wheel producing a strong traction torque, the concept of magnetic shield is suggested and compared with the existing approaches. Specially, as the magnet wheel, in which the permanent magnets rotate mechanically instead of ac driving to make traveling field, is physically similar with the rotary induction motor, there is a periodical force ripple in tangential direction as well as normal direction. But, the force ripple can be suppressed from a shape change of the shield plate. Namely, the change brings out a change of entry and exit effect of the circumferential field for the magnet wheel. The feasibility of the shield concept is verified from simulation and experiment.

High-precision surface actuator, in which in-plane motion is realized by not two-dimensional actuator superposing linear actuators but integrated planar actuator, has been developed to cope with the severe target performance like precise motion with large envelope. It is very difficult to accomplish the performance with the traditional actuating principle. So, various methods have been tried to break through the problem. This paper discusses some meaningful trials performed in the Nano Measurement and Precision Motion Control Lab. of Korea National University of Transportation.

As known generally, when permanent magnets whose poles are upward and downward in order, arranged into the circumferential direction rotate under the conducting plate, the rotating force acts on the plate as well as the repulsive force. If the magnetic field by the magnet wheel(the above rotating permanent magnets) is partially shielded, the magnet wheel over open region can be a linear induction motor. The distinct feature from induction motor is that the traveling magnet field is produced by the moving permanent magnet instead of ac current. Furthermore, a variation of the open region changes the direction of the thrust force. In this paper, we introduce a concept of the linear actuator using the magnet wheel. Under the above shielding condition, a few simulation results and its verification from a simple test setup are described.

Instead of linear BLDC regarded as an optimal solution for planar stage, the induction motors are chosen as driving source for the contact-free planar stage. In general, the induction motor shows a constant thrust force irrespective of its planar displacement, easy hardware implementation, relative simplicity of work-range enlargement, and straightforward kinematic metrology. However, the principle has inherent transient limitation in zero or low-speed zone. So, to implement successfully the induction motor as a servo principle, this study discusses critical issues to be solved as well as embodiment of the tried system. Specially, the early, constant settlement of AC magnetic field in the air-gap is considered as one key factor to dominate the initial transient characteristic. It is guaranteed by experimental result also.
