In this study, the correlation between rail wear and rail bending strength was estimated using a numerical model based on rail bending strength. The presented estimation model was verified by comparing its results with results of a previous study, and an analysis was performed in consideration of Korean railway conditions. It was determined that the wear limit value of each rail type (50N, 60El, 60KR) according to the operating conditions of the Korean railway is larger than the rail wear limit value presented in the current track maintenance guidelines, leading to a safety rate of about 2.0 or more. Therefore, the current rail wear limit value is judged to yield a sufficient safety rate in terms of rail bending strength, and it is necessary to establish a rail wear limit value through driving safety analysis according to rail wear in the future.
