The objectives of this study were to monitor organic farming upland compared with conventional upland field and to evaluate nutrient loads reduction of surface cover effect with long-term historical climate data. APEX(Agricultural Policy Environmental eXtender) model was validated with experimental data and used for assessing surface cover scenarios for 30-year simulation periods. The validated values of RMSE(Root Mean Square Error), RMAE(Root Mean Absolute Error), R2 and E(Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency) for runoff were 1.17-1.37 mm/day, 0.28-0.45 mm/day, 0.88-0.90 and 0.82-0.94 in two treatments, respectively. Those for water quality (nitrogen) were 0.05-0.16 kg/ha, 0.52-0.75 kg/ha, 0.67-0.72 and 0.32-0.70 in two treatments, respectively, and therefore the validated model showed good agreement with the observed runoff and nitrogen load for the study period. When decreasing the surface cover rate of organic farming field to 75%, 50%, 25%, and 0% (conventional field), average annual runoff increased by 7%, 15%, 23% and 31%, respectively. Under same condition of decreasing the surface cover rate, average annual nitrogen loads increased by 1.4 times, 1.7 times, 2.0 times, and 2.3 times compared with organic farming field, respectively. This study showed that it is possible to present an appropriate surface cover ratio to maintain conventional production and minimize nonpoint sources pollution for organic farming system, although long-term monitoring is needed to determine its effects on environmental concerns, crop competition, and other uncertainty.

The Effect of the Water Extracts of Digestive Medicinal Plants on the Shelf-life of Pork PattiesThis study was performed to examine the possibility of water extracts of several digestive medicinal plants (DMPEs),such as Amomum tasoko, Alpinia oxyphylla, Citrus unshiu, and Myristica fragrans, as a natural antioxidant. Total phenol contents of each extract were expressed as gallic acid equibalents (GAE) and those were significantly different among A. tasoko (39.87±5.77 mg GAE/g), A. oxyphylla (30.28±3.36 mg GAE/g), C. unshiu (28.13±5.01 mg GAE/g) and M. fragrans (6.36±0.30 mg GAE/g) (p<0.05), and extract of A. tasoko showed significantly higher antioxidative effect than butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) on linoleic acid peroxidation at 72 h after incubation (p<0.05). Addition of extracts in pork patties did not affect the pH value and total microbes during cold storage. However, thiobarbituric acid reative substances (TBARS)of treated patties were lower in dose dependant manner than that of control as storage period increased (except patties treated with C. unshiu extract), and patties treated with 0.5% A. tasoko extract showed no significant difference with patties treated with 0.5% BHA at day 7.

Objective : This study is conducted to evaluate the efficiency of ethanol extracts of 4 mixed herbs(CP001 or CP002) on mouse model of atopic dermatitis induced by ovalbumin. Methods : Female BALB/c mice were internally sensitized with ovalbumin($20{\mu}g$) plus aluminum hydroxide hydrate(4mg) once per week. After 3 weeks, they were dermally challenged with patches containing ovalbumin ($100{\mu}g$) plus aluminum hydroxide hydrate(20mg) every other day for 3 weeks. After induction of atopic dermatitis, mice back skin were gently rubbed with CP001 or CP002(200mg/$m{\ell}$, $100{\mu}{\ell}$) for two weeks(every 2 days). Results : In CP001 or CP002 treated group, there was a remarkable reduction in infiltration of eosinophils on the skin areas and diminution of mast cells and total T cells in blood samples as compared with control group. Cutaneous expressions of interleukin-13, 17 were also decreased by CP001 or CP002. Moreover, blood immunoglobulin E level was decreased by drug administration while there was no decrease in OVA sensitization group. Conclusion : In summary, our result shows that herbal extracts(CP001 and CP002) could be potential candidates for the treatment of chronic atopic dermatitis.
