Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the needs of family caregivers of home care patients. Methods: A total of 40 caregivers had been selected from a hospital-based home care agency in Gyunggi province. The instrument developed by Hileman, Lackey, & Hassanein(1992) was modified to 55 items and used in this study. The instrument consists of 6 categories: informational, household, patient care, personal, spiritual, and psychological needs. Out of 29 analysed with descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman correlation test using SPSS 14.0. Results: Most caregivers were females, with a mean age of $60.0{\pm}15.5$, 32.1% were spouses, and 92.9% were living with patients. Patient's activities of daily living score was very low, and 44% of patients had cerebrovascular disease. Caregiver's needs were moderate, and the greatest being personal need. There was a significant difference between caregiver's monthly income and needs. Conclusion: Home care nurses need to teach and support family caregivers with specific programs and services to meet the identified and unmet needs of caregivers of home care patients. In-home respite and institutional respite are recommended for family caregivers taking care of patients with chronic disease.

Purpose: To provide the data for improving home health care through investigating the recognition of home care services and the possibility of providing it by nurses, doctors and patients. Method: The subjects were 167 nurses and 71 doctors who were working at a general hospital in Seoul and 72 patients who were admitted to that hospital. Data were collected through questionnaire surveys from November 29 to December 17 in 2004. Result: Home care services were recognized by 70.7% of nurses, 64.8% of doctors and 58.4% of patients. The percentages of agreement regarding the necessity of home care services were 70.7% of nurses, 47.9% of doctors and 86.1% of patients. The percentages of agreement to refer the patients to home care when they only want to receive it, were 58.1% of nurses and 57.7% of doctors. There were significantly higher in nurses than doctors between the differences of possible or impossible percentages in agreements about each items in the test-related services, medication-related services and treatment-related services. Conclusion: The above findings indicated that more specific and continuous educations and advertisements are needed to enlarge home care services in general hospitals.

Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze trends in research papers published in the Journal of Korean Public Health Nursing, and to compare and contrast similarities and differences of papers before and after listing in the Korea Citation Index (KCI) in 2007. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with 266 published studies during the 10-year period. The criteria for analysis included types of research, characteristics of researchers and participants, designs, data collection methods and study instruments, ethical considerations, data analysis, and keywords. Results: Studies conducted with grants constituted 23.7%, and students (32.3%) and general populations (25.2%) comprised the largest proportion of the study participants. The majority of the papers were quantitative research (93.2%), and self-reported methods (63.1%) were most frequently utilized. Seventy percent of the studies obtained verbal consent from the participants. Among the study instruments, psychosocial indicators (41.1%) were most frequently employed. The trends indicated that grant studies, students and general populations as study participants, and experimental studies increased, and use of written consent increased after KCI registration. Conclusions: The results could be used to understand the context of scientific research and to improve the quality of the research papers published in the Journal of Korean Public Health Nursing.
