Electrically conductive transparent films were fabricated from single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)and electrospun nylon 6 membranes, and then the films were dipped in epoxy resins. The nylon 6 nanofibers aided the formation of two-dimensional networks within the SWCNTs and maintained a uniform dispersion of the nanotubes. The electrical conductivity of the membranes increased after they were dipped in a high concentration SWCNT dispersion. The electrically conductive films that were prepared using the 0.02 wt.% SWCNT dispersion exhibited an electrical percolation threshold. The transmittance increased after an epoxy resin was incorporated into the electrically conductive transparent film because the epoxy resin disturbed the optical scattering of the film. After the nylon 6 nanofibrous membrane that was obtained through electro-spinning with the 20 wt.% polymer solution was dipped in the 0.02 wt.%SWCNT dispersion, the membrane had a sheet resistance = 9.5 × 102 Ω/□. The transmittance of the epoxy resin-impregnated film was 77.4% (sheet resistance = 2.1 × 103 Ω/□).
Aspect ratio control of acid modified multiwalled carbon nanotubes

This study examined the effects of acid treatments on the length of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as well as the influence of the aspect ratio of the MWCNTs on the electrical percolation threshold. In particular, the length distribution, intensity ratio of the G and D Raman peaks, BET surface area, and maximum decomposition temperatures of the MWCNTs were investigated. The MWCNTs showed different electrical percolation thresholds depending on the aspect ratio. The higher aspect ratio MWCNTs had lower electrical percolation thresholds than those with smaller ratios due to their ease of contact with other MWCNTs. In terms of the electrical behavior of a MWCNT film, many more short MWCNTs were necessary to reach the electrical percolation threshold than long MWCNTs. These results demonstrate the need to control the aspect ratio of MWCNTs in order for them to be used efficiently in electrical applications.

In the present study, the frequency of research misconduct in Korean medical papers was analyzed using the similarity check software iThenticate®. All Korean papers written in English that were published in 2009 and 2014 in KoreaMed Synapse were identified. In total, 23,848 papers were extracted. 4,050 original articles of them were randomly selected for similarity analysis. The average Similarity Index of the 4,050 papers decreased over time, particularly in 2013: in 2009 and 2014, it was 10.15% and 5.62%, respectively. And 357 (8.8%) had a Similarity Index of ≥ 20%. Authors considered a Similarity Index of ≥ 20% as suspected research misconduct. It was found that iThenticate® cannot functionally process citations without double quotation marks. Papers with a Similarity Index of ≥ 20% were thus individually checked for detecting such text-matching errors to accurately identify papers with suspected research misconduct. After correcting text-matching errors, 142 (3.5% of the 4,050 papers) were suspected of research misconduct. The annual frequency of these papers decreased over time, particularly in 2013: in 2009 and 2014, it was 5.2% and 1.7%, respectively. The decrease was associated with the introduction of CrossCheck by KoreaMed and the frequent use of similarity check software. The majority (81%) had Similarity Indices between 20% and 40%. The fact suggested that low Similarity index does not necessarily mean low possibility of research misconduct. It should be noted that, although iThenticate® provides a fundamental basis for detecting research misconduct, the final judgment should be made by experts.

Stress induced cardiomyopathy (SC) is characterized by transient left ventricular (LV) dysfunction in the absence of coronary artery disease. We report on a patient with panhypopituitarism who developed SC resulting from withdrawal of hormonal replacement therapy (HRT). A 52-year-old male visited our hospital for progressively worsening dyspnea. The patient had discontinued HRT 7 days ago, which had been administered for 18 months after transsphenoidal adenomectomy for pituitary macroadenoma. Initial electrocardiogram showed marked sinus bradycardia. Transthoracic echocardiography showed apical ballooning with an LV ejection fraction of 25%. No significant obstructive lesions were observed on coronary angiography. With a clinical diagnosis of SC associated with panhypopituitarism, HRT was restarted, including glucocorticoid and thyroxine, along with standard heart failure management. His LV function had normalized at 2-month follow-up. He remains asymptomatic and administration of beta-blocker and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor were discontinued He currently only requires HRT.
