Purpose: Since traditional р chart is unable to deal with the variation of attribute data, this paper proposes a new attribute control chart for nonconforming proportions incorporating overdispersion with a beta-binomial model. Methods: Statistical theories for control chart developed under the beta-binomial model and a new approach using this control chart are presented Results: False alarm probabilities of р chart with the beta-binomial model are evaluated and demerits of р chart under overdispersion are discussed from three examples. Hence a concrete procedure for the proposed control chart is provided and illustrated with examples Conclusion: The proposed chart is more useful than traditional р chart, individual chart to treat observed proportions nonconforming as variable data and Laney р′ chart.

Three-point time estimates in Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is widely accepted as a popular estimation method in project management and financial risk analysis because of simple structure and fairly accurate estimation. The classical PERT framework for computing mean and variance using three-point estimation formula based on beta distribution is only confined to three combinations of two beta shape parameters. Hence three beta-PERT distributions to satisfy two assumptions in three ones of PERT framework are discussed and compared in terms of flexibility of distribution, robustness, and usefulness. In this paper, new beta-PERT distribution is recommended and also demonstrated how practitioners could use this distribution in actual risk analysis of engineering projects.

Purpose: The most previous works on designing accelerated life tests (ALTs) are focused on the application of a single stress. Because of the difficulty to obtain the sufficient information in a reasonable duration using single stress only, there is needed in practice to use multiple-stress ALTs frequently. This paper presents new practical plans with two stresses for Weibull distribution. Methods: The four-level practical plans based on rectangle test region are proposed and compared with the corresponding three-level statistically optimal plans. Sensitivity analyses for assumed design parameters and life-stress relationship are conducted. Results: A procedure to choose practical ALT plans is illustrated with a numerical example and guidelines for planning two-stress ALTs are provided. Conclusion: The proposed two-stress ALT plans on practical constraints to assess a quantile of Weibull lifetime distribution at the use condition are efficient and robust.

The assumptions of period checking policy for On-Line Quality Control presented by Taguchi are examined and his loss function and formulae are evaluated by simulation. New iterative procedures are proposed under Taguchi's loss and improved loss functions, respectively. Computational experiments are conducted for various combinations of parameter values and their results are discussed. Sensitivity analysis for assumption of random walk model is also illustrated with an example.
