This article examines the life of the poet Kotaro Jinbo, focusing on his collection of Southern Poems, while considering his dispatch to Singapore as a conscripted literary agent as a turning point in his life. Kotaro Jinbo is considered to be the opposite of Masuji Ibuse, who was also conscripted to Singapore. While Ibuse was anti-war and anti-establishment, Jinbo is said to have been an active supporter of Japan’s “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere” ideology. This assessment, however, does not take into account the fact that Jinbo was a poet, but judges him solely for his role as President of the Shonan Japan Academy, which taught Japanese in the region. However, in order to appropriately evaluate Jinbo, it is necessary to follow him and pay attention to his activities as a poet before and after his posting to Singapore. This article examines the poetry and discourses of the poet Kotaro Jinbo, before and after his conscription, and examines how the experience of conscription affected him.

In this article, he focused on his appearance as a poet and writer in his expression activities. Then he tried to look at the spatial expressions that appeared in the poem of poet Kazue Morisaki. First of all, we focused on the “spatial symbols” that emerge from the poem, and compared them with the “sky” and “sea” which can be classified into two major categories according to the difference in perspective of the speaker in the poem. In addition to the “sea,” which has been pointed out in the previous research, this article made new recommendations on the expression of “sky” in Morizaki’s poems. I studied the meaning of the spatial representation of “sky” and what role “sky” plays in Morizaki’s poetry. This article is intended to clarify the figure of the poet Kazue Morisaki and some of the characteristics of her poems by attempting to analyze spatial symbols in the poem and, among other things, searching for the meaning of the symbol “sky.”

The purpose of this study was to examine the purchasing behavioral characteristics of cultural tourism A total of 293 useful respondents were collected film Japanese tourists at Seoul area. Factor analysis and ANOVA were employed to analyze in SPSS 7.5. The study investigated the attributes of cultural tourism and tourists' behavior (visit frequency, problem recognition, preparation period of travel, length of staying, accommodations, type of companion, and expenditures). Five factors from 25 attributes were identified as dimensions of cultural tourism and labeled: (1) cultural heritage, (2) convenience (3) entertainment and festival (4) food and language, and (5) shopping. Each dimension exhibits significant differences among respondents on purchasing behavior of cultural tourism. The results will provide cultural tourism researcher and marketing practitioner with an valuable inforn~ation on cultural t-purism.

Activation of nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-jB) is implicated in drug resistant of lung cancer cells. Our previous data showed that thiacremonone inhibited activation of NF-jB. In the present study, we investigated whether thiacremonone enhanced susceptibility oflungcancercellstoa common anti-cancer drug paclitaxel by further inhibition of NF-jB. Thus, we used the threefold lower doses of IC50 values (50 lg/ml thiacremonone and 2.5 nM paclitaxel). We found that combination treatment with thiacremonone and paclitaxel was more susceptible (combination index; 0.40inNCI-H460cellsand0.46inA549cells)incellgrowth inhibition of two types of lung cancer cell lines compared to a single agent treatment. Consistent with the combination effect on cancer cell growth inhibition, the combination treatment further induced apoptotic cell death and arrested the cancer cells in G2/M phase accompanied with a much lowerexpressionofcdc2andcyclinB1,andinhibitedcolony formation. Much more inactivation of NF-jB and greater expression of NF-jB target apoptosis regulated genes such as caspase-8 and PARPs were found by the combination treatment. Molecular model and pull down assay as well as MALDI-TOF analysis demonstrated that thiacremonone directly binds to p50. These data indicated that thiacremonone leads to increased apoptotic cell death in lung cancer cell lines through greater inhibition of NF-jB by the combination treatment with paclitaxel.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of renal injury after ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Recently, green tea polyphenols (GTP) have been found to protect the myocardium and liver against I/R injury. Less attention, however, has been paid to the protective effects of GTP with respect to the kidneys. This study was designed to determine whether GTP could protect renal cells from ischemic injury. The rabbits were divided into three groups of equal size: control (sham-operated), I/R + vehicle (normal saline) and I/R + GTP groups. Each group consisted of six rabbits. Animals underwent 30, 60, 90 and 120 min of ischemia, followed by 24 h of reperfusion, respectively. GTP (200 µg/kg) or the vehicle was administered 45 min prior to commencement of I/R. The results demonstrated that GTP administration resulted in a significant (P < 0.05) reduction of renal damage after 90 min of ischemia, as indicated by the decreased levels of creatinine and urea nitrogen in serum. These results were confirmed by histological examinations, which showed that GTP pretreatment inhibited necrosis and sloughing of the proximal tubules induced by I/R. Examinations also showed decreased necrotic areas in the medulla and decreased glomerular collapse in the I/R-injured rabbits. Moreover, the infiltration of CD8+ T cells was considerably decreased in GTP-treated kidneys. The results of this study suggest that GTP can reduce renal injury by preventing the oxidative stress dependent on I/R and may be used in renal transplantation as an antioxidant.
