This research aims to utilize lapilli from the Mt. Baekdusan as environmently-friendly construction material. First of all, the neutralizing method for fabricating lapilli-cement-mixed bioblock was examined. And then, by use of the neuralized bioblock with microorganism for water purification, the growth inhibition effect against the pathogenic coliform bacillus was evaluated. The result regarding growth inhibition effect on pathogenic coliform bacillus indicates that the pretreatment condition, which is a concurrent procession with aqueous solution of 10% di-ammonium Phosphate after water curing, led to pH degraded below 10 which was the target value. Therefore it was concluded that the method was effective on bio-block neutralization. The microorganisms purifying water and di-ammonium phosphate were detected through the examination for microorganism existence on the bioblock, therefore it was concluded that the bioblock composed of lapilli and cement is able to be utilized in various structures as an environment friendly construction material.

Recently, the occurrence of landslides has been increasing over the years due to the extreme weather event. Developments of landslides monitoring technology that reduce damage caused by landslide are urgently needed. Therefore, in this study, a strain ratio sensor was developed to predict the ground behavior during the slope failure, and the change in surface ground displacement was observed as slope failed on the field model experiment. As a result, in the slope failure, the ground displacement process increases the risk of collapse as the inverse displacement approaches zero. It is closely related to the prediction of precursor. In all cases, increase in displacement and reverse speed of inverse displacement with time was observed during the slope failure, and it is very important event for monitoring collapse phenomenon of risky slopes. In the future, it can be used as disaster prevention technology to contribute in reduction of landslide damage and activation of measurement industry.

Esophageal duplication cyst is very rare mediastinal tumor which is congenital lesion of the esophagus. Esophageal duplication cyst could be excised with video assisted thoracoscopic surgery(VATS) if it is relatively small, cystic lesion and not adhered severely to the surrounding tissues such as lung, trachea, bronchus, esophagus and pleura. We report a case of an esophageal duplication cyst which was located in the right thoracic cavity below carina and could be excised completely and repaired by interrupted suture with 3.0 black silk. The patient was discharged at 10 days after operation with good condition and has been in uneventful condition 2 months after operation.

The NO gas sensing properties of ZnO-carbon nanotube (ZnO-CNT) composites fabricated by the coaxial coating of single-walled CNTs with ZnO were investigated using pulsed laser deposition. Upon examination, the morphology and crystallinity of the ZnO-CNT composites showed that CNTs were uniformly coated with polycrystalline ZnO with a grain size as small as 5-10 nm. Gas sensing measurements clearly indicated a remarkable enhancement of the sensitivity of ZnO-CNT composites for NO gas compared to that of ZnO films while maintaining the strong sensing stability of the composites, properties that CNT-based sensing materials do not have. The enhanced gas sensing properties of the ZnO-CNT composites are attributed to an increase in the surface adsorption area of the ZnO layer via the coating by CNTs of a high surface-to-volume ratio structure. These results suggest that the ZnO-CNT composite is a promising template for novel solid-state semiconducting gas sensors.

It is significant to redevelop the deterioration reservoir through raising for countermeasure to climate change and Earthquake improvement of reservoir. This study aims to investigate the behavior of deterioration reservoir with poor-fabricated core subjected to raising water level and earthquake using numerical analysis. From the analysis results, water level raising and earthquakes induce crack and subsidences at the crown and the front side of deterioration reservoir. For the reinforcement of the deterioration reservoir is required appropriate measures method and raised method suitable, drainage and slope protection method judged to be necessary.
