Methods : A patient was treated with acupuncture for three weeks, non-treated(wash out period) for two weeks, and treated with miniscalpel acupuncture for three weeks. The effect of treatments were measured with Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Range of Motion(ROM), Short form McGill pain questionnaire(SF-MPQ), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC). Results : During the three weeks of acupuncture treatment, VAS, SF-MPQ and WOMAC improved, but after two weeks of the wash out period each score worsened. During the three weeks of miniscalpel acupuncture VAS, SF-MPQ, and WOMAC improved while ROM improved remarkably. Conclusion : These results suggest that miniscalpel acupuncture might be a therapeutic option for knee degenerative osteoarthritis patients who does not responded to acupuncture treatment.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to show the clinical effect of Korean Medical Treatments for Tinnitus with Sudden Sensory Neural Hearing Loss. Methods : The patient was treated by Korean Medical Treatments for 10weeks. The effect of treatments on tinnitus was measured with Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and Korean Tinnitus Handicap Inventory(K-THI). And the effect of treatments on sudden hearing loss was measured by VAS. Results : VAS of Tinnitus was decreased from 10 to 3 points and K-THI score was decreased from 70 to 26 points. VAS of hearing loss was decreased from 9 to 8 points. Conclusions : Korean Medical Treatments are effective on Tinnitus.

Analgesic Effect of Styrax Japonica Pharmacopuncture on Formalin- Induced Pain in Rats Mu Seob Park1, Hyun Jong Lee1, Yun Kyu Lee1, Mu Ryeo Kim2, Hae Jin Park2 and Jae Soo Kim1,* 1Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Meridian & Acupoint, College of Oriental Medicine, Daegu Haany University 2Department of Herbal Pharmacology, Coll. of Korean Medicine, Daegu Hanny University Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the analgesic effect of Styrax japonica pharmacopuncture on formalin induced pain in rats and to figure out efficient extraction method. Methods : The subjects were divided into 5 groups ; normal group(treated with normal saline at KI03, and injected normal saline at right hindpaw after 35 minutes), control group(treated with normal saline at KI03, and injected with formalin at right hindpaw after 35 minutes), water group(treated by hot water extraction pharmacopuncture at KI03, and injected with formalin at right hindpaw after 35 minutes), ethanol group(treated with ethanol extraction pharmacopuncture at KI03, and injected with formalin at right hindpaw after 35 minutes), and ultrasound group(treated with ultrasound extraction pharmacacupuncture and injected with fromalin formalin at right hindpaw after 35 minutes). We conducted a formalin test with ultrasonic vocalization( USV), and after the test checked for substance P, Aspartate aminotransferase(AST), and Alanine aminotransferase(ALT) concentration in the blood for each of the groups. Results : There was a significant analgesic effect of Styrax japonica pharmacopuncture in the early phase of the formalin test, and pharmacopuncture made with an ultrasound extracting method was observed to have a better analgesic effect than other extracting methods in early phases. The substance P concentration decreased significantly in the Styrax japonica pharmacopuncture treated group and no difference was found in the AST and ALT concentration of each group. Conclusion : These results demonstrated that Styrax japonica pharmacopuncture had analgesic effects in noxious nociceptors stimulation. Also pharmacopuncture made with an ultrasound extracting method had a better analgesic effect than others.

CA 약침치료를 병행한 요골신경 마비(목발성 마비)환자 치험 1례

Objectives : This study is to show the clinical effect of additional CA Pharmacopuncture on radial nerve palsy patients due to axillary crutch. Methods : The patient was treated using CA Pharmacopuncture, and other treatments include acupuncture for 4weeks. The effect of treatments is measured with coding results, grasp power, Korean Version of the DASH Questionnaire. Results : After treatment, radial nerve palsy symptoms are improved according to coding results, grasp power, Korean Version of the DASH Questionnaire. Conclusions : These results suggest that CA Pharmacopuncture might be a possible therapeutic options for the patient complaining radial nerve palsy.

Miniscalpel Acupuncture Therapy for a Patient with Traumatic Tears of both Meniscuses: A Case Report Jung Hee Lee, Mu Seob Park, Se Jung Oh, Yun Kyu Lee, Hyun Jong Lee and Jae Soo Kim* Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion medicine, College of Oriental Medicine, Daegu Haany University Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Miniscalpel acupuncture therapy on a patient with traumatic tears of both meniscuses. Methods : We treated a patient with tears in both meniscuses stemming from a traffic injury. The clinical effects of this treatment are measured by Visual Analog Scale (VAS), European Quality of Life - 5 Dimensions (EQ-5D), and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). Results : After Miniscalpel acupuncture therapy, the VAS score of the left knee changed from 7 to 3, while the VAS score of the right knee changed from 7 to 2~3. WOMAC of both knees changed from 70 to 8. Night pain and day-to-day pain have disappeared, with only a slightly heavy feeling remaining. Conclusion : These results suggest that Miniscalpel acupuncture therapy may be effective for treating traumatic meniscus tear.

도침술의 진료수가에 대한 문제점과 개선방안

Problems and Potential Improvements of National Health Insurance Fees Associated with Miniscalpel Acupuncture※ Se Jung Oh1, Mu Seob Park1, Jung Hee Lee1, Seung Ah Jun1, Han Mi Gong1, Seong Hun Choi2, Min Hwangbo3, Hyun Jong Lee1 and Jae Soo Kim1,* 1Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion Medicine, College of Korean Medicine, Daegu Haany University 2Department of Anatomy and Histology, College of Korean Medicine, Daegu Haany University 3Department of Oriental Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and Dermatology, College of Korean Medicine, Daegu Haany University Objectives : The objective of this study is to discuss problems and potential improvements of national health insurance fees associated with miniscalpel acupuncture according to Korean medical doctors' workload, material cost and degree of risk. Methods : We researched the change of relative value points, national health insurance fees, the acupuncture process, and Korean medicine doctors' workload related to Miniscalpel acupuncture, as compared to general meridian point acupuncture. We also examined material cost by surveying pharmacies, internet shopping malls and medical appliance shops. Results : Relative value point for Miniscalpel acupuncture decreased from 2010 to 2012, and remained the same from 2012 to 2016. National health insurance fees for Miniscalpel acupuncture increased by a small margin annually for rise of equivalent index. There was no reporting on workload related to Miniscalpel acupuncture. Material cost of Miniscalpel acupuncture was 18.2~20.7 times higher than actual cost of procedure. There were few studies examining medical accidents related to Miniscalpel acupuncture, and thus we could not evaluate degree of risk. Conclusion : We suggest revaluating Korean medical doctors' workload related to including Miniscalpel acupuncture, to consider the material costs of Miniscalpel acupuncture, and investigate its degree of risk by researching medical accidents.

월상골 주위 탈구 환자의 한방 치료에 대한 치험 1례

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the clinical experience of Korean medical treatment for Perilunate dislocation. Methods : The patient was treated using acupuncture, electroacupuncture and pharmacopuncture treatment for 6 times. Reduction was performed at 5 days after injured. We evaluated the patient through verbal rating scale (VRS), disability of the arm, shoulder and hand (DASH), range of motion (ROM) before treatment performed. Results : VRS is changed from 7 to 4. DASH score is changed from 75.83 to 60. ROM is changed from 10° to 45° in wrist dorsal flexion, and from 10° to 30° in wrist plantar extension. Conclusions : Korean medical treatments including anatomical reduction improved pain and functional limitation of patient with perilunate dislocation.

쑥뜸의 미세먼지 발생상황

According to recent study, increase of the particulate matter (PM) is associated with adverse health effects in children, elderly and patients. This study investigates the concentrations of PM 2.5 and PM 10 which is generated during the process of moxibustion. We prepared 3 type of moxibustions (classic, pipe and charcoal) and burned the 2.0 gram of moxibustion respectively, and measured the levels of PM 2.5 and 10 for 10 minutes. Maximum concentrations of PM 2.5 and PM 10 were 505.67 ± 77.11, 551.67 ± 61.46 in classic moxibustion, 352.33 ± 46.37, 393.67 ± 67.26 in pipe moxibustion, and 20.00 ± 1.73, 28.00 ± 6.24 (㎍/㎥) in charcoal moxibustion, respectively. Classic and pipe moxibustion generated 19.70~25.28 and 14.06~17.62 fold of the maximum PM concentration compared with charcoal moxibustion. Thus, usage classic and pipe moxibustion, must be paid attention to sufficient ventilation.

퇴행성 슬관절염 환자에 대한 도침요법의 효능 및 안전성 연구: 임상예비연구

Objectives : The Knee degenerative osteoarthritis patients are not satisfied with the conventional therapies of KDOA, which results in the use of alternative therapies. The miniscalpel acupuncture is effective in treating chronic soft tissue, releasing contractures. However, there is little scientific evidence supporting the use of miniscalpel acupuncture in knee degenerative osteoarthritis. This study was designed to obtain basic data for a further large-scale trial as well as provide information about the feasibility of miniscalpel acupuncture in knee degenerative osteoarthritis patients. Methods : We describe the protocol for a randomized controlled pilot clinical trial of 5 weeks duration. Twenty patients will be recruited and randomly allocated to two treatment groups: miniscalpel acupuncture treatment (experimental group); and acupuncture and electro-acupuncture treatment(control group). Miniscalpel acupuncture will be performed once with a 1-week interval for 3 weeks. Electro-acupuncture will be administered twice per week for a period of 3 weeks. The primary outcomes will be measured by visual analogue scale and range of motion. The secondary outcomes will be short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index. Both primary and secondary outcomes will be measured at baseline and at 1, 2, 3 and 5 weeks(i.e. 2 weeks after treatment completion). Conclusions : This pilot study will provide a basic foundation for a future large-scale trial as well as information about the feasibility of miniscalpel acupuncture in knee degenerative osteoarthritis.
