사과의 熱度는 果實의 品質뿐 아니라 貯藏壽命에도 지대한 影響을 미치고 있어 Spur Golden Delicious의 熱度를 정확히 파악, 收穫適期를 究明하고저 呼吸量과 果實의 形質을 指標로 調査한바.<br/> ① 呼吸은 점차 減少하여 9月 25日에 最少値를 이루고 그 후 上昇함으로써 9月 25日을 Climacteric minimum으로, 그 以前을 pre-climacteric期로 그 以後를 climacteric rise期로 推定하였다.<br/> ② 硬度는 9月 18日까지 비교적 높은値를 維持하였으나, 9月 25日 즉 climacteric minimum에 急降下現象을 보이고 그 후 減少는 緩慢하였다.<br/> ③ pectin은 9月 25日, 滴定酸度는 10月 2日 以後 현저히 減少하였다.<br/> ④ 그러나 還元糖은 climacteric minimum을 基準으로 增減現象을 認定할 수 없었다.<br/> 따라서 本試驗에서 貯藏果의 收穫適期는 10月 2日 以後로 推定되었으며, 이 때는 開花後 145日에 해당한다. A determination of proper maturity is a significant factor for a good quality and storage. This study is aimed at a determination of optimum harvest date related to a decisive measuring of maturity in Spur Golden Delicious.<br/> In this case, respiratory status and other characteristics are taken as a indicator for maturing determination.<br/> The results are as follows.<br/> 1. Respiratory rate has been decreased through a fruit development and come to its minimized point on Sep. 25. at last. On the contrary its tendency has been increased after Sep. 25. It is also estimated that the former is pre-climacteric, the latter climacteric rise based on dimacteric minimum Sep. 25.<br/> 2. A flesh hardness has maintained comparably high value until Sep. 18. But in the point of climacteric minimum, Sep. 25, curve of flesh firmness has rapidly been broken down, and after Sep. 25, tendency has slowly decreased at the sucessive date.<br/> 3. Pectin content, optimum acidity are remarkably decreased after Sep. 25, Oct. 2 respectively.<br/> 4. When water soluble sugar content shows to be swung from climacteric minimum, any resonable tendency are not found.<br/> 5. In this experiment, optimum harvest time is found by Oct. 2, in time of 145 days after flowering.

A new method of plastic film coating has been investigated to extend storage life of apples. The film coating was effected by dipping fresh apples in a plastic emulsion. The effect of plastic film coating on the preservation of freshness, respiratory activities and chemical components during storage, has been investigated on four leading varieties of apples. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The effect of film coating on storage life of apples was apparent, resulting in delay of after-ripening, shriveling, softening or physiological impediment as well as reducing consumption of reserve materials and waste fruits. 2. Change in the partial pressure of gas, i.e., increase in carbon dioxide and decrease in oxygen in apple tissue was resulted by the plastic film coating, suggesting that the film deposited on the fruit interfered with the diffusion of gases formed therein. 3. The effects of plastic film coating on the fruit storage varied with the type of plastic emulsions, coating temperature, varieties of apples and degree of fruit ripening. As regard to apple varieties, good results were obtained with PVA 217 for both American Summer Pearmain and Jonathan, and PVC 443 for McIntosh. 4. Reduction in the diminution rates of L-malic acid, ascorbic acid and soluble pectin etc. during storage of apples may account for the improved storage life of the fruits treated with plastic films.
