In this study, an experimental test is conducted on a concrete specimen using passive thermography (IRT) which is an effective and modern non-destructive test (NDT) method in detecting delaminations. The present work evaluates the detectability of delaminations with different sizes during the daytime by the absolute contrast technique. In addition, the most suitable time for delamination inspection of concrete structures is also proposed.

In the present work, an experiment using the active infrared thermography (IRT) technique in the laboratory is conducted on a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) that is applied on a concrete specimen surface. The main goal is to detect debonding located between CFRP sheets as well as between the CFRP sheet and the concrete surface. In addition, the effect of the debonding depth is also studied.

In this study, an experiment is conducted from the shaded side of a concrete specimen embedded artificial defects using passive infrared thermography. The specimen and experimental setup reflect the conditions of real bridge decks. The present work recommends an effective approach in not only detection but also classification of delaminations.

In the current work, experimental tests using Square Pulse Thermography were conducted on a painted concrete (PC) specimen. This aims to estimate the empirical thermal diffusivity coefficient of PC structures, an importance factor used to predict the subsurface defect depth. The coefficient provided obtains high reliability in the case of the validation data.

This study attempts to compare the delamination detection ability in painted concrete and normal concrete structures through active infrared thermography method. Results indicate that subsurface defects in painted concrete, under the same parameters, are more detectable in thermal images than those in normal concrete structures.
