Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate skin and eye symptoms according to swimming pool user characteristics and chlorine concentration at indoor swimming pools in the Daegu region. Methods: A total of 296 swimming pool users were enrolled from the eight swimming pools randomly chosen in Daegu. Each user completed a self-administered questionnaire with general, swimming related, and symptoms suffered throughout December 2008 to August 2009. The water analysis of swimming pools was substituted with the swimming pool water analysis practiced by district offices to 2008. Results: There were significant differences in experience rate of self-reported skin and eye symptoms between coaches and students except dander. The users of swimming pools having higher chlorine concentrations suffered from more frequent skin and eye symptoms. The results of multiple logistic regression analysis for experience of skin symptoms showed that coaches (OR = 6.81, 95% CI: 2.46~18.81) and pools with chlorine concentrations over 0.4 mg/l (OR = 1.75, 95% CI: 1.01~3.03) were the significant variables. For experience of eye symptoms, coaches (OR = 4.13, 95% CI: 1.25~13.69) at a swimming pool was the significant variable. Conclusions: Increased exposure to swimming pool water and exposure to swimming pool showed that higher chlorine concentration may cause more frequent skin and eye symptoms.
3년간 비스포스포네이트 복용 후 척골에 발생한 비전형적 골절

골다공증 치료제인 비스포스포네이트(bisphosphonate)의 장기간 복용과 대퇴골의 비전형적인 골절의 관련성은 많이 연구되었다. 하지만 상지에서의 비전형적인 골절은 매우 드물게 해외에 보고되었고 국내 학술지에는 보고된 바가 없다. 저자들은 비교적 단기간인 3년간 비스포스포네이트를 복용 후, 다른 부위에 골절 병력이 없이 발생한 척골의 근위부 비전형적인 골절 1예를 경험하여 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하고자 한다. There have been many studies regarding the relationship between long-term use of bisphosphonate and atypical femoral fractures in the literature. However, studies regarding atypical fractures of the upper limbs are severely limited, especially in Korea. Here, we report an atypical fracture of the ulna in a patient with bisphosphonate medication for a relatively short period of 3 years without any history of fractures at other sites.
PDP 격벽제작을 위한 롤-프레싱 공정에서의 유한요소해석을 통한 공정변수 분석에 관한 연구

Plasma Display Panel (PDP) is considered as one of the most popular flat panel displays due to its characters such as wide screen area, thin thickness, and wide angle of view. However, there are still remained problems should be solved to improve the efficiency of consuming power, and many works have been conducted to change the structure of barrier-ribs in the PDP for improving its efficiency. Generally, enlarging the coating space of phosphors and the discharging space of the ribs is the way to improve the efficiency. In this work, a roll-pressing process has been proposed with various rolling paths to fabricate highly efficient rib as closed types such as rectangular shape for HDTV. Also, the finite element method was employed to analysis the process parameters and to optimize them. Through this work, some kinds of barrier-ribs were fabricated using the proposed process, and optimal conditions were estimated.
Chrysin과 emodin에 의한 대장암 세포 항 성장 활성 및 세포사멸

본 연구에서는 시판하는 천연물 library (Selleckchem, L1400)로부터 암세포 항 성장 활성을 보여주는 천연물을 선별하였다. 즉, 인간 대장암 세포주인 HCT116에 50 μM의 각 천연물을 처리한 후 세포 생존율을 측정하였다. 1차 선별과정을 통하여 5종의 천연물(chrysin, diosmetin, emodin, piperlongumine, tanshinone I)을 선별하였다. 5종의 천연물에 의한 NAG-1 단백질의 발현을 확인한 결과 chrysin과 emodin에 의해서 발현이 현저하게 증가하였다. 또한, chrysin과 emodin은 농도의존적으로 세포 생존율을 감소시켰으며, chrysin과 emodin은 항암 단백질인 NAG-1의 발현을 농도 및 시간 의존적으로 증가시켰다. 게다가, chrysin과 emodin 처리에 의해 증가된 PARP cleavage가 NAG-1 siRNA transfection에 의해서 감소됨을 확인함으로써, chrysin과 emodin에 의한 세포사멸과 NAG-1의 발현 증가가 직접적인 관련이 있음을 증명하였다. 따라서, 본 연구결과는 암세포 항 성장 활성을 보여주는 천연물 선별에 대한 기초 데이터를 제공해 주며, chrysin과 emodin에 의한 암세포 항 성장 활성 및 세포사멸의 기전을 이해하는 데 도움을 줄 것으로 판단된다. In the present study, we screened candidate natural compounds which possess the strong anti-proliferative effects on human colorectal HCT116 cells using the commercial natural product library (Selleckchem, L1400) based on cell viability assay. Human colorectal cancer HCT116 cells were incubated with 50 μM of each compound from the natural product library, and then cell viability was measured by MTT assay. From the first screening, five different kinds of natural products (chrysin, diosmetin, emodin, piperlongumine, and tanshinone I) were selected based on cell viability assay in HCT116 cells and commercial availability. All selected natural products significantly decreased cell viabilities in HCT116 cells, whereas pro-apoptotic protein NAG-1 is strongly induced by chrysin or emodin treatment. Chrysin and emodin decreased cell viability in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, chrysin and emodin increased the expression of pro-apoptotic NAG-1 protein in a dose- and time-dependent manner. In addition, PARP cleavage induced by chrysin or emodin was recovered in part by the transfection of NAG-1 siRNA indicating that NAG-1 may be one of the genes responsible for apoptosis induced by chrysin or emodin. Overall, our findings may provide basic screening data on natural products which possess anti-proliferative activities and may help to understand the molecular mechanisms of anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic activities mediated by chrysin and emodin.
