One of the major challenge for retrieval performance is the word mismatch between user's queries and documents in information retrieval. To solve the word mismatch problem, we propose a retrieval model based on the degree of association of query concept and word translation probabilities in translation-based model. The word translation probabilities are calculated based on the set of a sentence and its succeeding sentence pair. To validate the proposed method, we experimented on TREC AP test collection. The experimental results show that the proposed model achieved significant improvement over the language model and outperformed translation-based language model. 정보 검색에서 성능 저하의 주요 요인은 사용자의 질의와 검색 문서 사이에서의 어휘 불일치 때문이다. 어휘 불일치 문제를 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 어휘 번역확률을 이용한 번역기반 언어모델에 질의개념연관도를 반영한 검색 모델을 제안한다. 어휘관계 정보를 획득하기 위하여 문장-다음문장 쌍을 이용하여 어휘 번역확률을 계산하였다. 제안모델의 유효성을 검증하기 위해 TREC AP 컬렉션에 대해 실험하였다. 실험결과에서 제안모델이 언어모델에 비해 아주 우수한 성능향상을 보였고, 번역기반 언어모델에 비해서도 높은 성능을 나타냈다.

The improement of listening comprehension ability has recently become one of the most important aspeds of language skills because of rapid communication development. Listening comprehension is the first of the four skills of teaching foreign languages, so no communication can be accomplished without listening cornprehension. This paper is designed to prove that listening first is necessary and important as the natural strategy for learning English, to find Koreans'difficulties in English listening comprehension and to establish ways to improve Koreans'listerling comprehension ability of English. As a result, the present study has reached the following conclusion. ' 1.In teaching English, we should especially put more emphasis improving listening comprehenson ability, because listening skill is of primary importance. 2.The factors affecting listening comprehension most are as follows : listeler's practice opportumity, speaker's speed of delivery, listener's vocabulary power, and listener's familiarity with the content of the text. 3.To improve Koreans'listening comprehension of Elglish more emphasis should be placed on sound discrimination practice, the study of vocabulary, dictation, and reading at normal speed. The understanding of soiocultural patterns of American though will help to improve listening skill, too. 4.English teachers should have good listening comprehension ability and pay close attention to the students'emotional and accoustic envinument in the classrocrm because they affect students' listening comprehension.

한국학의 국제적 소통에 관한 한 연구 : 한국의 역사와 문화 관련 용어 및 개념의 영어 표현을 중심으로

Since Korea was discovered by the Western travelers, traders, missionaries. and diplomats, various terminologies and expressions in European languages had been shown in travelogues, mission reports, and diplomatic records. Most of those terminologies and expressions on Korea by the early Westerners, however, are superficially put into incorrect equivalents in their languages with biased misinterpretations. Korean studies in the mid-20th and early 21st centuries have contributed to the cross-cultural communications between Korea and the English-speaking world by creating more academic English terminologies and expressions for the Korea's history and culture. This study attempts to attain more readable terminologies and more accurate expressions in English of the Korean contexts in its history and culture after we have reviewed what the early Western authors and contemporary Korean studies scholars in the 20th and 21st centuries used for the following selective topics of Korean studies: 1) Korea in the East Asian world; 2)Polities and political leadership in premodern Manchuria and the Korean peninsula; 3)Social statuses in Chosŏn Korea; 4) Family in traditional Korea; 5) Neo-Confucianism and Confucian statecraft in Chosŏn Korea: and 6) Literature, arts, and music in traditional Korea. 수 세기 전부터 여러 가지 목적으로 동아시아를 찾았던 서양의 여행자, 선교사, 무역상들은 동아시아 문명의 문화적 컨텐츠를 만나면서 그 용어나 개념을 영어 또는 다른 西歐語 속에서 우선 바로 해당하는 어휘 equivalent를 찾아 단순 번역한 기록들을 남기고 있다. 그러나 그들의 영어 표현은 수 천년 역사 동안 서구와는 다른 동아시아문명의 역사문화적 내용을 올바로 전달하지 못하고 있는 문제점을 안고 있다. 20세기 후반부터 21세기로 넘어오면서 동아시아 학의 발전은 비로서 특히 한국학의 국제적 소통을 위한 영어 표현에서 새로운 지명을 열고 있다고 하겠다. 그들은 과거 서양 개척자들의 축적된 기록을 자료로 사용하면서도 근대적 인문 사회과학적 접근을 통하여 얻어낸 동아시아 문명의 내용들을 보다 영어답게 표현하는 학문적 작업을 하고 있다는 점에서 그만큼 발전적이다. 이 연구는 한국학의 중요한 개념과 용어를 중심으로, 해외한국학의 시대별 발전단계를 거치면서 유럽과 미국의 한국학 학자들이 사용한 영어표현이 어떻게 전개되어왔는가를 살펴보고, 특히 20세기말 21세기초 해외한국학의 새로운 연구를 주목하면서 기존 표현의 문제점을 찾아 보다 글로벌한 시각에서 합리적인 영어표현을 찾는 일차적인 작업으로 보아주기 바란다. 여기서 다루게 되는 한국학의 중요한 개념들은 (1) 동아시아 세계 속의 한국, (2) 만주 한반도의 政治體 발전과정, (3) 전근대 한국의 사회적 신분제도, (4) 한국의 가족제도 전통, (5) 한국 유교: 성리학과 경세학, (6) 한국문학사 그리고 미술과 음악, 총 여섯 가지 큰 관련 범주로 구분하였다. 이상 여섯 가지 범주로 분류한 기준은 해외한국학 연구서에서 가장 그 영어표현의 문제가 많았던 용어 및 개념들을 분야별로 정리한 결과라는 점을 밝혀둔다.

어휘관계 정보와 질의개념연관도를 반영한 정보검색 성능 향상 기법

정보검색 분야에서 어휘 불일치 문제를 해결하기 위해 질의에서의 어휘 사이의 관계를 반영하는 것은 필수적인 요구사항이 되었다. 본 논문에서는 문장-문장 번역쌍을 이용하여 어휘 번역확률을 계산하였고, 어휘관계 정보를 반영하는 번역기반 언어모델에 어휘와 질의 개념과의 연관 정도를 반영한 모델을 제안한다. 뉴스 컬렉션 집합인 TREC AP 컬렉션에 대한 비교실험을 하였다. 실험결과에서 언어모델보다 어휘 관계를 반영한 번역기반 언어모델의 성능이 향상되었고 어휘의 질의개념 연관도를 반영한 모델이 번역기반 언어모델보다 성능이 향상됨을 보였다.

트위터에서 이슈가 되고있는 뉴스 기사에 대한 소셜 사용자 네트워크 기반 정치 성향 분류

트위터에서 정치 성향을 가지거나 관심이 있는 트위터 사용자는 관심있는 정치 인물이나 단체에 대한 뉴스 기사에 대해 자신의 의견을 남기거나 그대로 인용하게 된다. 또한, 자신의 의견과 공감하거나 비공감하는 트윗에 대해서 리트윗을 하거나 추가적인 자신의 의견을 언급하기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 이슈가 되고있는 정치 뉴스 기사에 대해 관심 있는 트위터 사용자들을 찾아 트위터 사용자들 간의 트윗 문서들 사이에서의 관계 정보를 가지는 사용자 네트워크에서의 트위터 사용자들의 성향을 분류해주는 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법의 유효성을 검증하기 위해 트위터에서 이슈가 된 정치 뉴스 기사들과 각 뉴스 이슈를 언급한 트위터 데이터에서 트윗 문서 내용 유사도 기반 분류 방법과의 비교 실험 하였다. 실험 결과에서 사용자간의 관계 정보를 이용한 성향 분류 방법이 유효함을 보였다.
