Mussel byssus is a bundle of threads used to attach mussels to wet substrates. Recently, a thin cuticle layer on the byssus has attracted public attentions due to its remarkable toughness - stiff as epoxy resin and extensible as rubber. Here, we observed ultrastructure of the cuticle layer in a far eastern mussel (Mytilus coruscus) to understand underlying mechanisms for the mechanical properties. The cuticle layer observed by TEM was composed of submicron-sized granular inclusions in a continuous matrix phase. In addition, ultrastructural study in the presence of tertiary amine (Tetraethylammonium, TEA) showed an evidence that the cuticle is stabilized by cation-${\pi}$ interaction.

Heading bias effects in PNS using IMUs attached to shoes are analyzed in this paper. The navigation algorithms of a single foot PNS where one IMU is attached to a foot and dual foot PNSs where two IMUs are attached to each foot are derived. Two navigation algorithms are proposed for the dual foot PNS: 1) the positions from the independent right and left foot PNSs are averaged to provide the final position, 2) the right and left foot PNSs are correlated and it provides positions of each foot. Furthermore, it is proven that two methods are equal. Using the derived navigation algorithms the effect of heading bias caused by a misalignment of the moving direction and IMU is analyzed. The analysis explains the position error of a single foot PNS is diverged while the heading bias is effectively compensated in dual foot PNSs because of the symmetry of heading biases. The experimental results confirm the analysis.

우리나라는 2002년 5월, 가맹사업거래의 공정화에 관한 법률을 제정하였고, 그 후 몇 차례 개정을 통하여 정보공개서 등록제와 가맹금 예치제를 도입하는 등, 가맹사업거래의 공정화를 위하여 노력하고 있지만, 가맹사업시장이 급속도로 확장되면서 가맹본부의 우월한 거래상의 지위를 이용한 불공정행위 등으로 인하여 가맹점사업자의 피해가 확산되고 있고, 가맹사업거래 관련 분쟁은 해마다 늘어가고 있는 실정이다. 가맹사업거래 관련 분쟁은 ‘가맹사업거래분쟁조정협의회’의 조정을 통하여 해결하도록 하고 있지만, 이 조정에는 민법상 화해계약과 동일한 효력만을 인정하고 있어서 조정성립 후에 가맹본부가 자발적으로 조정사항을 이행하지 않을 경우 가맹사업자는 다시 법원에 소를 제기해야 하며, 가맹본부는 공정거래위원회의 시정조치나 시정권고를 우선 피하기 위하여 조정을 수락해 놓고 시간은 버는 사례도 종종 발생되고 있다. 이 논문은, 가맹사업거래 관련 분쟁은 1,000만원 미만의 소액사건이 대부분이며, 정식재판으로 가는 경우도 드물고, 영세한 가맹점 사업자는 가맹본부에 비하여 정보획득 등에 있어서 상대적으로 열악한 위치에 있어서 성질상 소비자분쟁과 거의 유사한 분쟁이라고 할 수 있으므로, 소비자분쟁조정위원회의 조정이 ‘재판상 화해’와 동일한 효력을 부여하고 있는 것처럼 협의회 조정에도 재판상 화해와 동일한 효력을 부여하여 조정의 실효성을 확보함으로써 가맹점 사업자를 보호해야 한다고 강조하고 있다. 이를 위하여 가맹사업법의 개정을 통하여 협의회 구성의 독립성과 중립성, 그리고 조정절차의 공정성, 신중성 등을 확보해야 하고, 협의회의 명칭도 조정위원회로 변경하는 것이 바람직하며, 가맹본부와 가맹사업자간 가맹사업거래 계약체결시 계약서에 중재조항을 두도록 함으로써 분쟁발생시 중재를 통하여 해결하는 것도 좋은 방안이라고 주장하고 있다. In South Korea, the Fair Transactions in Franchise Business Act was established in May 2002. The Act has been amended several times to adopt the information disclosure statement registration system, franchise deposit scheme, etc. with a view to fair franchise business transactions. But as the franchise business market has grown rapidly, franchisee damages have also expanded by unfair activities abusing favorable transactional position of franchiser and so forth, increasing franchise business-related disputes each year. In the country, disputes related to franchise business are to be mediated by the Franchise Business Transaction Dispute Settlement Council. The legal effect of its mediation is no more than the contract of compromise under the civil code. Thus, if the franchiser does not follow the mediated resolution on the voluntary basis, the franchisee should file a suit to court again. In this situation, sometimes franchisers, to avoid the corrective measures or recommendations of Fair Trade Commission even temporarily, accept the Council mediation result and gain some more time. In this study, it was noted that such franchise business-related disputes are mostly small-scale cases for less than KRW 10 million and hardly led to a full formal trial. In most of the cases, franchisees are micro-scale owners and in unfavorable position to access information and many others compared to franchisers. Given this aspect, franchise business-related disputes, in its nature, are almost similar to customer disputes. Therefore, it is emphasized in this study that, as the medication by Consumer Dispute Settlement Council is recognized as equally effective as judicial settlement, the Council mediation should be made equally effective to judicial settlement to better protect the franchisees. To this end, the Franchise Business Act needs to be amended to ensure the independence and neutrality of the Council organization, mediation procedural fairness and prudence and others. It is also desirable to change the Council name into settlement committee. In the franchise contracts between a franchiser and franchisee, mediation provisions need to be inserted therein so that disputes can be resolved through mediation.

진동형 히트파이프 단열부 내경 변화에 관한 열 성능 연구

The temperature behavior of Pulsating Heat Pipe (PHP) according to the diameter change were studied by limiting the diameter change to only the adiabatic section. To investigate details of temperature behavior, 4 types of PHP are fabricated. Type 1 and 3 have the same inner diameter of evaporator, condenser and adiabatic section of 2 and 3 mm respectively. The diameters of evaporator, condenser and adiabatic section of type 2, 4 are 2/2/3 and 3/3/2 mm respectively. PHP is set up vertically and activated with bottom heat mode. Ethanol is adopted as working fluid and the filling ratio is fixed at 60%. To investigate operation of PHP in various heat input, heat input power was increased from 10 to 140 W with 10 W step. The time for each heat input step is 1200 seconds. As a result of the experiment, PHP type 3 shows the best performance with the thermal resistance of 0.05℃/W at 140 W heat input.

Recently, as environmental problems have grown, and among them, fine particles such as fine dust/fine plastic have become a problem, research on fine particle sensors is being actively conducted. In previous studies, the form of simply concentrating fine particles at a high concentration and putting them into a trapping space for measurement was used, and sensors with a structure of reading changes in S-parameters, especially reflection coefficient (S11), at a specific frequency using LC resonance were proposed. This form is not favorable for measuring fine particles that exist in extremely low concentrations in real-life environments. While the structure of reading reflection coefficient (S11) may be convenient for reading with commercial measurement equipment such as a Network Analyzer, it is advantageous to read transmission coefficient (S21) for commercialization. In this study, we captured lowconcentration fine particles dispersed in liquid using MEMS-based microfluidics and filter structures, thereby improving the sensitivity. Additionally, we designed the sensor to read transmission coefficient (S21) instead of reflection coefficient (S11) to increase commercial feasibility. As a result, we designed a fine particle measurement sensor with a center frequency of 1.2 GHz, and confirmed that the frequency shifted from 1.2028 GHz to 1.1929 GHz by inputting microplastics (PE).
