After the introduction and development of rigid fixation concept on the traumatized, osteomatized facial bone, miniplates have used for last decade. Therfore, commercial miniplates have been made with many shapes and materials. At present, generally using miniplates are stainless steel and titanium miniplate. These materials must have biocompatibility and less cytotoxicity. In this study, to compare the cytotoxicity of these materials, three kinds of titanium miniplates and two kinds of stainless steel miniplates were inserted to the culture media with fibroblast extracted from LC.R mouse and were incubated for 2, 4, 7 days. The cytotoxicity was measured by the viable fibroblast cell numbers in the vicinity of the inserted miniplate surface. The results were as follows 1. Titanium miniplates that consist of high purity of titanium show weak cytotoxicity. 2. Titanium miniplate that consists of low purity of titanium and cromium contents shows strong cytotoxicity. 3. Stainless steel miniplates present relatively weak cytotoxicity.

This is a clinical study on the prognosis after the surgical management of condylar fracture of the mandilbe, by reviewing recents of 91 patients follow - up for at least 6 months after the treatment in department of Oral & Mamllofacilal Surgery , College of Dentistry in Wonkwang University Hospitsal from 1985 to 1990. The results were as follows ; 1. The frequency of mandibular condyle fractures were developed three times in males and the most developed age groups were twenty year old age ( 40.6 % ) and the most frequently site were condylar neck ( 35.8 % ). 2. The post - operative complcations were developed in 15 cases of the 162 lines of the fracture, which contnbuted at 6 lines in condyle head, 5 lines in condyle head, 3 lines in condylar process and 1 line in condylar base. 3. In condylar neck fracture,- the-frequency of complications were developed at posterior, ante,--or and lateral displacement in each percentage of 12.5%, n1% and 10.5%, but internal and no displacement cases were not oocured the complications. 4. Complications in condylar process fradure were developed mostly in case of anterior displacement in percentage of 111%.. Trismus and cliddnng sound were -most frequent complications in our study.
