Vol.9 No.3
This study investigated the current growth status of planted trees as a follow-up study on Yeoju Washlands, a large-scale riverside Washlands created as a flood control area of the Namhangang River. Unlike dam reservoirs and wetlands in the water level fluctuation section, Yeoju Washlands has a characteristic that a certain level is maintained through the control of the water level of the Namhangang River, and the Washlands is restricted from access. In addition, the wetland and Washlands riverbed sections other than the managed road section showed the vegetation status of natural transitions. Since it is necessary to compare the planned planting trees at the time of construction with the current state, the planned planting plan before the construction of Yeoju Washlands and the process of changing the planting plan according to various conditions occurred during the construction were first considered. In addition, more than 10 years after the creation of the Washlands in 2012, the growth status and Tree Deficiencies in the reservoir were investigated through on-site surveys and aerial photography through drones. As a result, 41.4% of trees, 51.3% of shrubs, and 43.9% of flowering plants were dead. Among them, the high mortality rate of shrubs was mainly due to the death of all spindle trees due to freezing damage, and most of the trees were defects in intermediate trees that were multi-planted or planted alone without planning multi-layered planting. In addition, the planting plans for each space, such as wetlands, flower garden multipurpose squares, model waterways, wetland ecological parks, and picnic areas in the Washlands, showed different planting conditions from the beginning, It was considered that a planting plan was made that did not fully take into account the growth environment, management, and transition of each plant. This study tracked and analyzed the planting plan data at the time of large-scale Washlands construction and the tree growth process after construction, and tried to use it as basic data to suggest a sustainable vegetation environment while selecting the right plant material in future Washlands construction.
