Why Women Volunteer in Korea:Roles of Identification and Satisfaction

The purpose of the study is to explore gender differences in volunteering based on the relationships of identification and volunteer satisfaction. Specifically, this study investigated how the relative contribution of three different foci of identification (sport, community, and volunteering) and volunteer satisfaction in the pre‐games of the Special Olympics World Winter Games related to four different types of volunteering intentions, and how these intentions differ between male and female volunteers. Identification with volunteering was a significant predictor of volunteer intentions regardless of gender and volunteer opportunities. Volunteer satisfaction was a critical factor only for female volunteers in predicting future volunteering intentions similar to the current volunteer experiences.

The purpose of the study was to examine the causal effects of organizational prestige, distinctiveness, and salience of outgroup on team identification. The literature from organizational identification suggested that the three variables were the antecedents of organizational identification. Thus, it was hypothesized that the three antecedents should influence team identification since team identification came from organizational identification and social identity theory. The causal relationships between the antecedents and team identification was hypothesized based on social identity theory and organizational identification. The data were collected from 232 college students who attended K university, which is known to be the historical rival against Y university in collegiate sports in Republic of Korea. Descriptive statistics were calculated with SPSS The normality of the data was examined along with other assumptions of multiple regression analysis. The three independent variables showed statistically significant causal influence on team identification. The three independent variables explained 37.3% of the total variance of team identification.

자원봉사관광 참여자의 사전교육만족, 방문만족, 여가만족 및 재참여의도의 관계 분석

Recently, volunteer tourism has received substantial attention as one of the leisure activities. Until now, the focus of volunteer tourism research was on the tourism or pure volunteerism even though the characteristics of volunteer tourism are far different from tourism or pure volunteerism. Thus in the current study, the participants were understood as leisure pursuers and their volunteer tourism as leisure. In this perspective, the purpose of this study was to explore the relationship among preparation satisfaction, visitor satisfaction, leisure satisfaction and re-participation intention in volunteer tourism through a SEM analysis. The study was conducted with 308 college students who participated in international volunteer programs. The results indicated that preparation satisfaction and visitor satisfaction were significantly related to leisure satisfaction. It also revealed that leisure satisfaction was significantly related to re-participation intention in volunteer tourism.

[목적] 본 연구의 목적은 국내 스포츠 자원봉사 관련 연구에 대한 전반적인 현황을 알아보는 것이다. [방법] KCI 등재 논문 중 스포츠 자원봉사를 그 주제로 한 60편의 논문과 스포츠 자원봉사가 주제는 아니나, 변인이나 제언의 한 방향으로 언급하고 있는 논문 14편(총 74편)을 연도별, 학술지별, 학문분야별, 연구방법별, 연구주제별, 연구대상별, 참여 자원봉사자별, 참여 자원봉사분야별로 분류하였다. [결과] 스포츠 자원봉사 관련 연구는 꾸준히 출판되고 있고 2009년부터 그 수가 증가되어가고 있다. 다양한 연구 분야의 학술지에서 출판되고 있으며, 특히 스포츠경영학, 교육학, 특수체육, 스포츠정책분야에서 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있었다. 연구방법적인 측면에서는 양적방법론을 사용한 연구가 절반 가까이를 차지하지만, 질적방법론을 사용한 연구도 적지 않았다. 자원봉사자를 대상으로 한 연구가 대부분이며 자원봉사수혜자를 대상으로 한 연구는 거의 없었다. 참여 자원봉사자는 많은 수가 대학생이었으며, 이벤트봉사나 교육봉사 등에 참여하는 봉사자들을 대상으로 하는 연구가 가장 많았다. [결론] 국내의 스포츠 자원봉사 연구는 다양한 주제를 가진 연구들을 기본으로 한 양적 확장도 이루어져야하겠지만 국내 현황과 스포츠 자원봉사자들에 대한 제대로 된 이해와 확실한 이론적 근거를 바탕으로 한 연구의 질적 성장도 필요하다. [Purpose] The purpose of the study is to review the current trends of Korean research on sport volunteering. [Methods] For the research purpose, 74 KCI-listed articles published were investigated. [Results] The main topics of 60 articles were sport volunteering and the sub-topic or factor of the other 14 articles was sport volunteering. These articles were classified based on the publishing year, type of journal, academic area, research method, research topic, research sample, volunteer characteristics and volunteer area. Research on sport volunteering has been continuously conducted but the number of related publications has been increased since 2009. Sport volunteer research articles have been published in various sport related journals. However, the majority of the research articles are in the research areas of sport management, sport pedagogy, adopted physical education, and sport policy. Regarding the research method, more than a half of the articles were the ones using quantitative research methods, but qualitative research methods were often used as well. The majority of the research were conducted on volunteers but the research conducted on the beneficiaries of volunteer services were few. Many of the volunteers researched were college students. Event volunteering and educational volunteering were common volunteering areas in the research articles. [Conclusions] Korean researchers should not only conduct more research on sport volunteering with various topics but also improve the quality of the research after conducting the in-depth review of theories and literature and the better understanding about Korean situation on sport volunteering.

The purpose of the current study are twofold: (1) to consider event volunteers as leisure pursuers and understand their various identification factors and (2) to investigate the influence of 5 identification factors (identification with team, identification with level, identification with sport, identification with community, and volunteer identification). The study was conducted with 275 selected volunteers of Daegue World Championship in Athletics. The identification level of these volunteers were not high. Also, there was no gender difference in five identification factors except identification with community. The regression analysis showed that all 5 identification factors explained 19% of variance in volunteer intention for other related events. Specifically, only identification with community and identification with team were significant predictors of volunteer intention.
