Several surveys for needs analysis have been carried out to date in Korean language education, but mostly focusing on 1) the students for general academic purposes, not for specific academic purposes, and 2) the target students ignoring the target situation. Investigating the target situation should be the first step of needs analysis, therefore, the purpose of this study is twofold, First, it is to identify science and engineering specific communicative events the students engaged in major disciplines, Second, based on the identified events, to analyze target situation needs required commonly across major disciplines, This study first identified 10 communicative events which show a clear distinction from the other academic fields. Second, this study also found 12 communicative events the students most frequently engaged in, It also shows that there exist technical genres such as lab report and exercises including tables, figures, formulations etc, The findings implies that when designing science and engineering-oriented KSAP program for undergraduate level, those major specific findings should be carefully considered.
