Methanol extracts of Orostachys japonicus A. Berger (OAB) were found to exhibit apoptosis induction of HL60 human acute promyelocytic leukemia cells. Treatment of OAB exerted strong cytotoxicity against HL60 cells. OAB induced DNA fragmentation of HL60 cells in a dose dependent manner. Nitric oxide production were also increased in OAB-treated RAW264.7 macrophage cell lines. Treatment of OAB increased the expression of p53 and iNOS gene and the expression of p53, NF-κB and iNOS protein in cultured HL60 and RAW264.7 cells. These results suggest that OAB are effective on strong anti-cancer properties and can be useful as a chemo-preventive agents.
소외된 세대의 복원 : 386세대‘內’에 대한 세대사회학적 접근

It is somewhat different to focus on groups ‘within’ the generation; to identify different ‘parts’ of the generation. The more ‘parts’ are described in the generation, the more close explanation of the generation could be possible. Therefore, seeing the groups within a generation may allow much more abundant points of proper social analysis to be found. This case study was Based on the assumption. It was carried out on the 386generation, since it was believed to be the most powerful generation in our society. By looking at a lot of groups ‘within’ the generation, not by observing its difference from other generations but by dividing it into tiny parts, we could get to the more close understanding of the generation. 세대‘내’의 세대를 주목하는 것은 색다르다. 그것은 다른 ‘일부’의 세대를 확인하는 것이다. 이것이 복수(複數)형일수록 ‘모든’ 세대를 가장 근접적으로 설명할 수 있는 가능성이 풍부해진다. 세대‘내’를 보게 되면, 훨씬 정교한 사회분석의 지점들을 발견할 수 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 연구주제를 바탕으로 진행되었다. 사례연구로서 386세대가 선정되었다. 이는 386세대가 가장 강력한 하나의 세대로써 존재하고 있기 때문이다. 즉 386세대를 ‘제대로’ 본다는 것은 386세대와 다른 세대의 차이점을 보는 것이 아니라, 386세대 ‘안’을 분절적으로 세분화하여 보는 것이다.
Glycyrrhizin에 의한 Mel/ret mice melanoma세포의 apoptosis유도

The effect of glycyrrhizin(GL), a Chinese herbal drug extracted from licolice roots0Glycyrrhizae radix, on the apoptosis induction to tumor cells was investigated in a transgenic murine system. DNA fragmentation in cultured mice melanoma cells were significantly increased by the treatment of GL. In addition, Administration of GL to Mel/ret transgenic mice, which were inoculated i.m. with 0.1 ㎎/mice resulted in apoptosis induction, reduction of mitochondrial transmembrane potential(ΔΨm) in melanoma cells from Mel/ret transgenic mice. And lymphocyte subpopulation analysis showed that markedly decreased B220^+ B cells recovered by the treatment of GL in Mel/ret mice splenocytes and mesenteric lymph node colls, while Thy-1^+ T cells did not changed. From these results, it is suggested that GL accelerated apoptosis of melanoma cells and recovered B lymphocyte-mediated humoral immunity in Mel/ret transgenic mice in vitro and in vivo system and these apoptosis-associated events in which a reduction in ΔΨm constitute irreversible stop of ongoing apoptotic cell death. Ultimately, the homeostasis is maintained.

In the present work we investigated the effects of brown rice extracts on proliferation and apoptosis of cancercells. Brown rice extracts were prepared using nongerminated brown rice versus germinated brown rices. Mouse leukemiaL1210 cells, human acute lymphoblastic leukemia Molt4 cells, and human cervical cancer HeLa cells were treated with ei-ther nongerminated brown rice extract (N ex), water-germinated extract (W ex), chitosan-germinated extract (C ex), glutamicacid-germinated brown rice extract (G ex), or chitosan/glutamic acid-germinated brown rice extract (CG ex). The concentra-tions of g-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the G ex and CG ex were three and 3.3 times higher than the GABA concentrationin the N ex, respectively. The G ex and CG ex retarded significantly the proliferation rates of L1210 and Molt4 cells, and thehighest retardation rate was with CG ex. In addition, the G ex and CG ex enhanced significantly apoptosis of the culturedL1210 cells, but no significant apoptosis was seen with the other extracts, which have lower concentrations of GABA than Gex and CG ex. These results show that brown rice extracts with enhanced levels of GABA have an inhibitory action onleukemia cell proliferation and have a stimulatory action on the cancer cell apoptosis.
