A Study of the Public’s Sincere Apology Acceptance and Political Attitude on Public Conflict Resolution in South Korea

Yujin Lim 한국학술연구원 2016 Korea Observer Vol.47 No.1

This paper analyzes the effect of the public’s acceptance of sincere governmental apology and their political attitude regarding public conflict resolution in South Korea. Specifically, this study examines the role of conflict types — such as interest conflict and value conflict — in the conflict resolution process. The findings confirm that independent variables such as the public’s acceptance of a sincere governmental apology1 and their political attitude have a significant effect on willingness to cooperate in situations of public conflict resolution. The results reveal differences between these two types of conflict when the interaction effect of independent variables is considered; for example, this effect is significant in interest conflict, but not significant in value conflict. Implications of the results are also discussed.

      • Evaluation of Dynamic Properties of Trackbed Foundation Soil Using Mid-size Resonant Column Test

Lim, Yujin,Nguyen, Tien Hue,Lee, Seong Hyeok,Lee, Jin-Wook The Korean Society for Railway 2013 International Journal of Railway Vol.6 No.3

A mid-size RC test apparatus (MRCA) equipped with a program is developed that can test samples up to D=10 cm diameter and H=20 cm height which are larger than usual samples used in practice. Using the developed RC test apparatus, two types of crushed trackbed foundation materials were tested in order to get the shear modulus reduction curves of the materials with changing of shear strain levels. For comparison purpose, large repetitive triaxial compression tests (LRT) with samples of height H=60cm and diameter D=30 cm were performed also. Resilient modulus obtained from the LRT was converted to shear modulus by considering elastic theory and strain level conversion and were compared to shear modulus values from the MRCA. It is found from this study that the MRCA can be used to test the trackbed foundation materials properly. It is found also that strain levels of $E_{v2}$ mostly used in the field should be verified considering the shear modulus reduction curves and proper values of $E_{v2}$ of trackbed foundation must be used considering the strain level verified.

      • Effects of Social Media Use and Three Types of Attributions on Anti-fat Attitudes

        ( Yujin Lim ),( Soontae An ),( Jangyul Robert Kim ) 한국PR학회 2023 AJPR Vol.6 No.1

This paper examines how the intensity of social media use affects anti-fat attitudes by considering the mediating effects of three main attributions―internal, social, and physical―on obesity stigma. Participants were 213 college students in the United States who completed a paper survey. A mediation analysis model using the PROCESS macro (Model 4) was employed to test the research question and hypotheses. Intensity of social media use did not show a relationship with internal and social causes, but it did show a significant relationship with physical causes. Physical causes had a negative mediating effect on anti-fat attitudes. This implies that the higher the intensity of social media use, the higher the physical causes and the lower the anti-fat attitudes. The intensity of social media use had no direct relationship with anti-fat attitudes. Theoretical and practical implications were suggested.

Determination of N-nitrosodimethylamine in zidovudine using high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

        Yujin Lim,Aelim Kim,Yong-Moon Lee,Hwangeui Cho 한국분석과학회 2023 분석과학 Vol.36 No.6

Zidovudine is an antiretroviral agent prescribed for the prevention and treatment of human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS). It is typically recommended to be used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs. Zidovudine has the potential to generate Nnitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) in the presence of dimethylamine and nitrite salt under acidic reaction conditions during the drug manufacturing process. NDMA is a potent human carcinogen that may be detected in drug substances or drug products. An analytical method was developed to determine NDMA in pharmaceuticals including zidovudine using high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/ MS). The analysis involved reversed-phase chromatography on a Kinetex F5 column with a mobile phase comprising water-acetonitrile mixtures. The detection of positively charged ions was conducted using atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI). The calibration curve demonstrated excellent linearity (r = 0.9997) across the range of 150 ng/mL with a highly sensitive limit of detection (LOD) at 0.3 ng/mL. The developed method underwent thorough validation for specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, robustness, and system suitability. This sensitive and specific analytical method was applied for detecting NDMA in zidovudine drug substance and its formulation currently available in the market, indicating its suitability for drug quality management purposes.

Development of Link Cost Function using Neural Network Concept in Sensor Network

( Yujin Lim ),( Sanggil Kang ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2011 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.5 No.1

In this paper we develop a link cost function for data delivery in sensor network. Usually most conventional methods determine the optimal coefficients in the cost function without considering the surrounding environment of the node such as the wireless propagation environment or the topological environment. Due to this reason, there are limitations to improve the quality of data delivery such as data delivery ratio and delay of data delivery. To solve this problem, we derive a new cost function using the concept of Partially Connected Neural Network (PCNN) which is modeled according to the input types whether inputs are correlated or uncorrelated. The correlated inputs are connected to the hidden layer of the PCNN in a coupled fashion but the uncoupled inputs are in an uncoupled fashion. We also propose the training technique for finding an optimal weight vector in the link cost function. The link cost function is trained to the direction that the packet transmission success ratio of each node maximizes. In the experimental section, we show that our method outperforms other conventional methods in terms of the quality of data delivery and the energy efficiency.

Development of a New Pressure-Sinkage Model for Rover Wheel-Lunar Soil Interaction based on Dimensional Analysis and Bevameter Tests

Lim, Yujin,Le, Viet Dinh,Bahati, Pierre Anthyme The Korean Space Science Society 2021 Journal of Astronomy and Space Sciences Vol.38 No.4

A rover is a planetary surface exploration device designed to move across the ground on a planet or a planetary-like body. Exploration rovers are increasingly becoming a vital part of the search for scientific evidence and discoveries on a planetary satellite of the Sun, such as the Moon or Mars. Reliable behavior and predictable locomotion of a rover is important. Understanding soil behavior and its interaction with rover wheels-the terramechanics-is of great importance in rover exploration performance. Up to now, many researchers have adopted Bekker's semiempirical model to predict rover wheelsoil interaction, which is based on the assumption that soil is deformable when a pressure is applied to it. Despite this basic assumption of the model, the pressure-sinkage relation is not fully understood, and it continues to present challenges for rover designers. This article presents a new pressure-sinkage model based on dimensional analysis (DA) and results of bevameter tests. DA was applied to the test results in order to propose a new pressure-sinkage model by reducing physical quantitative parameters. As part of the work, a new bevameter was designed and built so that it could be successfully used to obtain a proper pressure-sinkage relation of Korean Lunar Soil Simulant (KLS-1). The new pressure-sinkage model was constructed by using three different sizes of flat plate diameters of the bevameter. The newly proposed model was compared successfully with other models for validation purposes.

      • A PMIPv6-based Handover Mechanism for Vehicular Communication Networks

        Yujin Lim,Sanghyun Ahn,Kwon Hee Cho 대한전자공학회 2010 ICEIC:International Conference on Electronics, Inf Vol.1 No.1

The vehicular communication network in which vehicles autonomously form a network based on wireless communications is one of the key components of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). In recent years, extensive research on the vehicular communication network has been carried out in the areas of medium access control and routing, while handover mechanisms for fast moving vehicles are not relatively well studied from the perspective of the IP mobility management. The Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) based on the concept of network-mobility support was proposed to overcome the overhead imposed on mobile hosts of the host-based IP mobility management mechanisms like the Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). Besides, PMIPv6 reduces the handover delay as well as relieving mobile hosts from the mobility management overhead. In this paper, we figure out the scenarios of applying PMIPv6 to the vehicular communication network and propose a handover mechanism that can accommodate highly mobile vehicles and long-distance coverage area. We validate the operation of our proposed handover mechanism by carrying out the ns-2 based simulations.

Comparison of Saturated and Unsaturated Water Flows through Pavement Systems

        Lim, Yujin,Hue Nguyen Tien 한국방재학회 2009 한국방재학회논문집 Vol.9 No.3

Most of the current drainage criteria have been developed on the basis of experimental field results and theoretical analyses of infiltration under saturated conditions. The objective of this study is to extend the understanding of pavement drainage systems by considering unsaturated condition in the sublayers. Analyses of unsaturated flows through pavements was performed by running finite element program(SEEP/W) with a range of pavement materials and drainage parameters. Meanwhile, the widely used DRIP program developed by FHWA is based on assumption of saturated condition of pavements. Differences between saturated and unsaturated condition in the sublayers of the pavements are verified. It is verified that for unsaturated conditions time to drain would take longer time compared to saturated condition.
