      • Study of the Content Analysis on Cultural Art Stained in the Old Streed of Jiadong Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan

        Yi-En Tsai,Shiunn-Der Kuo 한국문화관광학회 2021 문화관광연구 Vol.23 No.1

Jiadong Township, located in Pingtung County Taiwan, is renowned as a historic town. Not only does its density of historical relics rank as the highest in the county, the township also boasts the only ancient Hakka Wu Jin big house in Taiwan; with rooms which were designed for many relatives to live together. Furthermore, the Jiadong Township preserves many traditional Hakka buildings and architecture; such as the Hakka settlement, long lane, old buildings and mansions. Liu Qiwei (1997), a senior cultural anthropologist and professor mentioned “if art and aesthetic cannot intertwine with life, it will not take root into the culture. Only through daily usage and generational accumulation can the beauty of civilization be realized and developed in all aspects of life (e.g., food, fashion, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment).” (Lu, 2009). Consequently, art, aesthetic and culture affects the human development and their daily lives. The following study is based on the mural paintings and Hakka poetry planks displayed in the old Street of Donggen Road, Jiadong Township. Through in-depth literature reviews, field investigation, interviews and statistical analysis, the research results can be used to preserve and record the Hakka culture in its entirety. Moreover these findings can be digitalized and implemented in mobile self-guided tours, and adopted as references for future community development. The effect of diabetes and prediabetes on the prevalence, complications and mortality in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

        Cheng Han Ng,Kai En Chan,Yip Han Chin,Rebecca Wenling Zeng,Pei Chen Tsai,Wen Hui Lim,Darren Jun Hao Tan,Chin Meng Khoo,Lay Hoon Goh,Zheng Jye Ling,Anand Kulkarni,Lung-Yi Loey Mak,Daniel Q Huang,Mark C 대한간학회 2022 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.28 No.3

Background/Aims: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely associated with diabetes. The cumulative impact of both diseases synergistically increases risk of adverse events. However, present population analysis is predominantly conducted with reference to non-NAFLD individuals and has not yet examined the impact of prediabetes. Hence, we sought to conduct a retrospective analysis on the impact of diabetic status in NAFLD patients, referencing non-diabetic NAFLD individuals. Methods: Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999–2018 was used. Hepatic steatosis was defined with United States Fatty Liver Index (US-FLI) and FLI at a cut-off of 30 and 60 respectively, in absence of substantial alcohol use. A multivariate generalized linear model was used for risk ratios of binary outcomes while survival analysis was conducted with Cox regression and Fine Gray model for competing risk. Results: Of 32,234 patients, 28.92% were identified to have NAFLD. 36.04%, 38.32% and 25.63% were non-diabetic, prediabetic and diabetic respectively. Diabetic NAFLD significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), stroke, chronic kidney disease, all-cause and CVD mortality compared to non-diabetic NAFLD. However, prediabetic NAFLD only significantly increased the risk of CVD and did not result in a higher risk of mortality. Conclusions: Given the increased risk of adverse outcomes, this study highlights the importance of regular diabetes screening in NAFLD and adoption of prompt lifestyle modifications to reduce disease progression. Facing high cardiovascular burden, prediabetic and diabetic NAFLD individuals can benefit from early cardiovascular referrals to reduce risk of CVD events and mortality.

      • The Analysis about Promotion and Marketing of Hakka Villages -A Case Study of Laijia Community, Jiadong Township, Pingtung County-

( Tzu Yu Lai ),( Yi En Tsai ),( Shiunn Der Kuo ) 한국문화관광학회 2013 문화관광연구 Vol.15 No.2

Recently, the rural and fishing of Taiwan changed rapidly in the industrialization. Due to the aging of population in rural area, and the labor shortage, the land was changed to grow the high economy fruit or fishing. With this change, the local economy developed toward high technology and low labor, and it became the elements of affecting the community. This research used the environment and human as a view to investigate the prosperity and recession of the community by collate document and interviewing the successful case. We used SWOT analysis, countering the Managing mode of Siaputou fish farming production area and try to integrate Hakka exquisite culture and excellent traditional industrial technology to point out feasible solution of local community development. The results showed that Lai family community in Jiadong Township, Pingtung County, mainly farming and growing the rice in early period. They transformed into aquaculture rapidly in several decades. Skillful aquaculture and technique brought abundant production to Jiadong Township. However, it can`t be developed into a Hakka specialty. The main point is that: first, to solve the problem of virus infection, they need to strengthen the anti-virus technology. Second, fishermen must develop self-reliance, learning digital knowledge, developing fishery products; establishing heterogeneity of the product, and develop the local market. Third, we can suggest the government control output in order to protect the fishermen`s income. Through industrial restructuring, we can use storytelling to promote local community to achieve the purpose of marketing Hakka villages.

Indoxyl sulfate, homocysteine, and antioxidant capacities in patients at different stages of chronic kidney disease

        Chen Cheng-Hsu,Huang Shih-Chien,Yeh En-Ling,Lin Pei-Chih,Tsai Shang-Feng,Huang Yi-Chia 한국영양학회 2022 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.16 No.4

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Increased levels of uremic toxins and decreased antioxidant capacity have a significant impact on the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, it remains unclear whether they interact with each other to mediate the damage of kidney function. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether uremic toxins (i.e., homocysteine and indoxyl sulfate [IS]), as well as glutathione-dependent antioxidant enzyme activities are dependently or independently associated with kidney function during different stages of CKD patients. SUBJECTS/METHODS One hundred thirty-two patients diagnosed with CKD at stages 1 to 5 participated in this cross-sectional study. RESULTS Patients who had reached an advanced CKD stage experienced an increase in plasma uremic toxin levels, along with decreased glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity. Plasma homocysteine, cysteine, and IS concentrations were all positively associated with each other, but negatively correlated to GSH-Px activity levels after adjusting for potential confounders in all CKD patients. Although plasma homocysteine, cysteine, IS, and GSH-Px levels were significantly associated with kidney function, only plasma IS levels still had a significant association with kidney function after these parameters were simultaneously adjusted. In addition, plasma IS could interact with GSH-Px activity to be associated with kidney function. CONCLUSIONS IS plays a more dominant role than homocysteine and GSH-Px activity in relation to kidney function.
