Identification of nucleolar and coiled-body phosphoprotein 1 (NOLC1) minimal promoter regulated by NF-κB and CREB

( Xue Song Gao ),( Qi Wang ),( Wei Li ),( Biao Yang ),( Hao Song ),( Wei Ju ),( Shu Nai Liu ),( Jun Cheng ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2011 BMB Reports Vol.44 No.1

Nucleolar and coiled-body phosphoprotein 1 (NOLC1) is a phosphoprotein that transiently associates with the mature nucleolar H/ACA and C/D box small nucleolar ribonucleoproteins (snoRNPs). Several lines of evidence indicate that NOLC1 plays an important role in the synthesis of rRNA and the biosynthesis of ribosomes. In the present study, we examined the transcriptional regulation mechanisms that govern the expression of NOLC1. We first performed functional dissection of the NOLC1 promoter. We demonstrated that transcription factors NF-κB and CREB could bind to the minimal NOLC1 promoter. This was demonstrated by electrophoretic mobility shift assays and chromatin immunoprecipitation. Mutagenesis and overexpression assays revealed that NF-κB and CREB positively regulated the NOLC1 promoter. These findings may provide new insight into the mechanisms that regulate NOLC1 expression. • Robust FeCo nanoparticles embedded in a N-doped porous carbon framework for high oxygen conversion catalytic activity in alkaline and acidic media

        Gao, Xuan-Wen,Yang, Junghoon,Song, Kyeongse,Luo, Wen-Bin,Dou, Shi-Xue,Kang, Yong-Mook The Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 Journal of Materials Chemistry A Vol.6 No.46

<P>FeCo alloy nanoparticles were nucleated onto graphitic carbon layers through the pyrolysis of polydopamine (PDA) sub-micrometer spheres to form a highly active electrocatalytic system that exhibits excellent oxygen conversion catalytic activity in both alkaline and acidic media. Owing to the strong metal chelation capability during the chemical modification and high sp2-dominant carbon yield of PDA, an abundance of non-precious-metal ions were easily trapped and absorbed into the PDA segments at room temperature by catechol and amine functional groups, followed by the <I>in situ</I> nucleation of FeCo alloy nanoparticles on graphitic carbon layers during the pyrolysis. The contents of graphitic nitrogen and pyridinic nitrogen were significantly increased by the presence of the non-precious-metal ions during carbonization as well, which is a result of the chelation effect of non-precious-metal atoms. Meanwhile, the FeCo nanoparticles (diameter < 5 nm) were protected by the multi-layer-graphene-like carbon layer from the harsh acid and uniformly anchored on graphitic carbon sub-microspheres, which can greatly improve the catalytic durability, particularly in acidic media. From the perspective of the whole catalytic system being used as an air electrode in rechargeable Zn-air batteries, the porous nitrogen-doped graphitic carbon framework was functionalised as a continuous conductive framework due to its catalytic activity towards high oxygen conversion and good electrical conductivity.</P>

Human Action Recognition Via Multi-modality Information

        Gao, Zan,Song, Jian-Ming,Zhang, Hua,Liu, An-An,Xue, Yan-Bing,Xu, Guang-Ping The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2014 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.9 No.2

In this paper, we propose pyramid appearance and global structure action descriptors on both RGB and depth motion history images and a model-free method for human action recognition. In proposed algorithm, we firstly construct motion history image for both RGB and depth channels, at the same time, depth information is employed to filter RGB information, after that, different action descriptors are extracted from depth and RGB MHIs to represent these actions, and then multimodality information collaborative representation and recognition model, in which multi-modality information are put into object function naturally, and information fusion and action recognition also be done together, is proposed to classify human actions. To demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method, we evaluate it on MSR Action3D and DHA datasets, the well-known dataset for human action recognition. Large scale experiment shows our descriptors are robust, stable and efficient, when comparing with the-state-of-the-art algorithms, the performances of our descriptors are better than that of them, further, the performance of combined descriptors is much better than just using sole descriptor. What is more, our proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on both MSR Action3D and DHA datasets.

      • Tea Consumption, Alcohol Drinking and Physical Activity Associations with Breast Cancer Risk among Chinese Females: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

        Gao, Ying,Huang, Yu-Bei,Liu, Xue-Ou,Chen, Chuan,Dai, Hong-Ji,Song, Feng-Ju,Wang, Jing,Chen, Ke-Xin,Wang, Yao-Gang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

Objective: To evaluate associations between tea consumption, alcohol drinking and physical activity and breast cancer risk among Chinese females. Methods: Three English databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect and Wiley) and three Chinese databases (CNKI, WanFang and VIP) were independently searched by 2 reviewers up to December 2012, complemented by manual searches. The quality of included studies was assessed with the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale items. Random-effects models were used to estimate the pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Potential publication bias was estimated through Egger's and Begg's tests. Heterogeneity between studies was evaluated with $I^2$ statistics. Results: Thirty-nine studies involving 13,204 breast cancer cases and 87,248 controls were identified. Compared with non-drinkers, regular tea drinkers had decreased risk (OR=0.79, 95%CIs: 0.65-0.95; $I^2$=84.9%; N=16). An inverse association was also found between regular physical activity and breast cancer risk (OR=0.73, 95%CIs: 0.63-0.85; $I^2$=77.3%; N=15). However, there was no significant association between alcohol drinking and breast cancer risk (OR=0.85, 95%CIs: 0.72-1.02; $I^2$=63.8%; N=26). Most of the results from the subgroup analysis were consistent with the main results. Conclusion: Tea consumption and physical activity are significantly associated with a decreased risk of breast cancer in Chinese females. However, alcohol drinking may not be associated with any elevation of risk.

FAILURE ANALYSIS OF A BRASS SYNCHRONIZER RING IN THE GEARBOX OF VEHICLE

        Gao Hongchen,Xue Song,Renyi Zhang,Peng Yi,Zheng Lixuan 한국자동차공학회 2023 International journal of automotive technology Vol.24 No.2

Synchronizers are the heart for vehicles. The reliability of synchronizer ring in the gearbox affects the operation of the entire systems of vehicles. In this paper, a pre-failure of synchronizer ring made of brass was investigated. Macro and micro analysis, chemical composition analysis, mechanical property test and finite element method were conducted on the synchronizer ring. The analysis results showed that the content of element in the micro area of the outer ring exceeded the standard, which caused the increases of hardness and brittleness of material. The resisting crack propagation ability of material was reduced due to the element segregation. It was concluded that the synchronizer ring was fractured due to the high hardness and brittleness of material, combined with the stress concentration. Finally, countermeasures were proposed to address similar problems.

Synthesis and characterization of TiC powders by sol-gel method

        Liang Gao,Yun Zhang,Xue Yang,YanBin He,LiHua Song 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2020 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.21 No.6

TiC powders were successfully synthesized by carbothermal reduction of Ti-O-C precursor in argon at 1,400 °C for 2 h. Andthe Ti-O-C precursor was formed by sol-gel method using titanium butyrate (Ti(OC4H9)4), fructose (C6H12O6), and acetylacetone (acac). Here, acac was used as chemical modifier to control Ti(OC4H9)4 hydrolysis to obtain stable sol. Furthermore,TG-DSC, XRD, FTIR, Raman, SEM, and EDS were employed to characterize the precursor and TiC powders. Moreover, acacas stabilizer was studied using FTIR when reacted with Ti(OC4H9)4 formed stable six-member ring as a result of the existenceof tautomer, prevent the nucleophilic attack of water, which reduced the hydrolysis rate of Ti(OC4H9)4. Besides, the compositionof TiC phase was further understood by the Raman spectra, and the results showed that the peaks at 403 cm−1, 513 cm−1, and 629 cm−1 were ascribed to the characteristic peaks of TiC. Finally, the photomicrograph revealed an equiaxed shape and theaverage grain size of TiC particles was ca. 1 um. The EDS indicated that the particles contain elements of Ti and carbonaccording to dot and line scan.

        Liu, Xue-Ou,Huang, Yu-Bei,Gao, Ying,Chen, Chuan,Yan, Ye,Dai, Hong-Ji,Song, Feng-Ju,Wang, Yao-Gang,Wang, Pei-Shan,Chen, Ke-Xin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.3

Background: Evidence for associations between dietary factors and breast cancer risk is inconclusive among Chinese females. To evaluate this question, we conducted a systematic review of relevant case-control and cohort studies. Methods: Studies were systematically searched among 5 English databases (PudMed, ScienceDirect, Wiley, Clinicaltrials.gov, and Cochrane) and 3 Chinese databases (CNKI, WanFang, and VIP) until November 2012. Random effects models were used to estimate summary odds ratios (ORs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Thirty one case-control studies and two cohort studies involving 9,299 cases and 11,413 controls were included. Consumption of both soy and fruit was significantly associated with decreased risk of breast cancer, with summary ORs of 0.65 (95% CIs: 0.43-0.99; I2=88.9%, P<0.001; N=13) and 0.66 (95% CIs: 0.47-0.91; $I^2$=76.7%, P<0.001; N=7), respectively. Consumption of fat was significantly associated with increased risk of breast cancer (OR=1.36; 95% CIs: 1.13-1.63; $I^2$=47.9%, P=0.088; N=6). There was nonsignificant association between consumption of vegetables and breast cancer risk (OR=0.72; 95% CIs: 0.51-1.02; $I^2$= 74.4%, P<0.001; N=9). However, sensitivity analysis based on adjusted ORs showed decreased risk of breast cancer was also associated with consumption of vegetables (OR=0.49; 95% CIs: 0.30-0.67). Conclusion: Both soy food and fruit are significantly associated with decreased risk of breast cancer among Chinese females, and vegetables also seems to be protective while dietary fatexerts a promoting influence.

        Haowen Xue,Chunyi Hu,Haoyuan Ma,Yanhao Song,Kunru Zhu,Jingfeng Fu,Biying Mu,Xu Gao 대한수의학회 2023 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.24 No.2

Background: Feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) is a widespread and highly infectious pathogen in cats with a high mortality rate. Although Yanji has a developed cat breeding industry, the variation of FPV locally is still unclear. Objectives: This study aimed to isolate and investigate the epidemiology of FPV in Yanji between 2021 and 2022. Methods: A strain of FPV was isolated from F81 cells. Cats suspected of FPV infection (n = 80) between 2021 and 2022 from Yanji were enrolled in this study. The capsid protein 2 (VP2) of FPV was amplified. It was cloned into the pMD-19T vector and transformed into a competent Escherichia coli strain. The positive colonies were analyzed via VP2 Sanger sequencing. A phylogenetic analysis based on a VP2 coding sequence was performed to identify the genetic relationships between the strains. Results: An FPV strain named YBYJ-1 was successfully isolated. The virus diameter was approximately 20–24 nm, 50% tissue culture infectious dose = 1 × 10−4.94/mL, which caused cytopathic effect in F81 cells. The epidemiological survey from 2021 to 2022 showed that 27 of the 80 samples were FPV-positive. Additionally, three strains positive for CPV-2c were unexpectedly found. Phylogenetic analysis showed that most of the 27 FPV strains belonged to the same group, and no mutations were found in the critical amino acids. Conclusions: A local FPV strain named YBYJ-1 was successfully isolated. There was no critical mutation in FPV in Yanji, but some cases with CPV-2c infected cats were identified.

      • Colorectal Cancer Screening in High-risk Populations: a Survey of Cognition among Medical Professionals in Jiangsu, China

        Chen, Yao-Sheng,Xu, Song-Xin,Ding, Yan-Bing,Huang, Xin-En,Deng, Bin,Gao, Xue-Feng,Wu, Da-Cheng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.11

To investigate the cognition of medical professionals when following screening guidelines for colorectal cancer (CRC) and barriers to CRC screening. Between February 2012 and December 2012, an anonymous survey with 19-questions based on several CRC screening guidelines was randomly administered to gastroenterologists, oncologists, general surgeons, and general practitioners in Jiangsu, a developed area in China where the incidence of CRC is relatively high. The average cognitive score was 26.4% among 924 respondents. Gastroenterologists and oncologists had higher scores compared with others (p<0.01 and p<0.01, respectively); doctor of medicine (M.D.) with or without doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) or holders with bachelor of medical science (BMS) achieved higher scores than other lower degree holders (P<0.05). More importantly, doctors who finished CRC related education in the past year achieved higher scores than the others (p<0.001). The most commonly listed barriers to referring high-risk patients for CRC screening were "anxiety about colonoscopy without anesthesia", "lack of awareness of the current guidelines" and "lack of insurance reimbursement". Lack of cognition was detected among doctors when following CRC screening guidelines for high-risk populations. Educational programs should be recommended to improve their cognition and reduce barriers to CRC screening.
