Vol.46 No.1

Between February 2020 and September 2021, 378 calves with diarrhea were investigated across 96 cattle breeding farms in Korea, using a rapid diagnostic kit. The study examined the infection rates of major pathogens causing diarrhea in calves, which were categorized by season, age, birth month, and region. Additionally, logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the infection rate. The study found that the five representative pathogens causing calf diarrhea exhibited differences in infection rates based on season, region, age, and birth month. Bovine rotavirus, bovine coronavirus, Cryptosporidium , and Giardia commonly exhibited varying risks of infection based on season and age. Furthermore, in addition to these risk factors, bovine rotavirus and Cryptosporidium were found to impact the infection risk of each pathogen by region, while Giardia was found to be af-fected by birth month.

Vol.46 No.2

Between February 2020 and September 2021, a total of 452 dairy calves with diarrhea were investigated across 17 dairy farms in Gyeonggi province, Korea, using a rapid diagnostic kit. The study aimed to examine the infection rates of major pathogens causing diarrhea in dairy calves, categorizing them by season, age, and birth month. Additionally, logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the infection rate. The infection rates of the major pathogens causing infectious diarrhea in dairy calves, including bovine rotavirus, bovine coronavirus, Cryptosporidium, and E. coli , are influenced by season, age, and birth month. Bovine coronavirus and Cryptosporidium showed variations in infection rates according to season, age, and birth month, while bovine coronavirus was influenced by age and birth month, and E. coli showed variations in infection rates based on age. Furthermore, in the analysis of risk factors influencing the infection rates of these pathogens, age and birth month were identified as risk factors for bovine rotavirus, bovine coronavirus, and Cryptosporidium.

Comparison of the fecal microbiota with high- and low performance race horses

        Taemook Park,Jungho Yoon,Young-Min Yun,운노타쯔야 한국축산학회 2024 한국축산학회지 Vol.66 No.2

Exercise plays an important role in regulating energy homeostasis, which affects the diversity of the intestinal microbial community in humans and animals. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, few studies have reported the associations between horse gut microbiota along with their predicted metabolic activities and the athletic ability of Jeju horses and Thoroughbreds living in Korea. This study was conducted to investigate the association between the gut microbiota and athletic performance in horses. This study sequenced the V3 and V4 hypervariable regions of the partial 16S rRNA genes obtained from racehorse fecal samples and compared the fecal microbiota between high- and low-performance Jeju horses and Thoroughbreds. Forty-nine fecal samples were divided into four groups: high-performance Jeju horses (HJ, n = 13), low-performance Jeju horses (LJ, n = 17), high-performance Thoroughbreds (HT, n = 9), and low-performance Thoroughbreds (LT, n = 10). The high-performance horse groups had a higher diversity of the bacterial community than the low-performance horse groups. Two common functional metabolic activities of the hindgut microbiota (i.e., tryptophan and succinate syntheses) were observed between the low-performance horse groups, indicating dysbiosis of gut microbiota and fatigue from exercise. On the other hand, high-performance horse groups showed enriched production of polyamines, butyrate, and vitamin K. The racing performance may be associated with the composition of the intestinal microbiota of Jeju horses and Thoroughbreds in Korea.

Evaluation of concurrent immunizations with equine influenza virus and strangles vaccines

        ( Dong-ha Lee ),( Kyungmin Jang ),( Taemook Park ),( Youngjong Kim ),( Kyoung Hwan Kim ),( Eun-bee Lee ),( Young Beom Kwak ),( Eun-ju Ko ) 한국동물위생학회 2023 韓國家畜衛生學會誌 Vol.46 No.4

Despite regular vaccinations, equine influenza virus (EIV) and Streptococcus equi subsp. equi (strangles) are the cause of highly contagious respiratory infections in horses. Many recent studies have reported that the concurrent administration of two vaccines could simplify horse management and minimize veterinary expenses. However, there is little information available regarding the efficacy of concurrent vaccinations against EIV and strangles. In this study, we evaluated EIV-specific antibody responses following the single EIV vaccination with the recombinant viral-vectored EIV vaccine or concurrent vaccination with the EIV and inactivated strangles vaccines. Blood samples were collected at 1-, 2-, 4-, and 8 weeks post-immunization (wpi) from each group. EIV-specific antibodies were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and hemagglutination inhibition (HAI) assay. Both single and concurrent vaccination showed similar levels of EIV-specific serum immunoglobulin g (IgG) at 1 and 2 wpi. However, at 4 to 8 wpi, the EIV-only vaccination group showed significantly higher serum IgG levels than those from the concurrently vaccinated group. The HAI titers showed similar trends as the ELISA data, except at 8 wpi when both groups presented HAI titers with no significant differences. These data demonstrate that the concurrent vaccination against EIV and strangles could compromise the humoral immune response to equine influenza between vaccination intervals, which suggests the use of the consecutive vaccination protocol for EIV and strangles rather than concurrent vaccination.

원전 유압구동 균형 글로브 밸브의 정적진단시험 분석을 활용한 동적특성 모델링 및 성능평가 연구

        김재형(Jaehyung Kim),박태국(Taekook Park),이상혁(Sang Hyuk Lee),류호근(Ho-Geun Ryu),임태묵(Taemook Lim),이정희(Jung Hee Lee) 한국전산유체공학회 2020 한국전산유체공학회지 Vol.25 No.3

The 1D dynamic analysis model is made and validated by static diagnosis experiment result, which is the requirement of ASME QME-1 standard. The operation of valve assembly is qualified near the closing point and that qualification result also can be used on the evaluation of operation throughout whole lift with the test based 1D dynamic analysis model. The functional qualification in partially maintained differential pressure can be used to the qualification in wholly maintained differential pressure, in which the maximum differential pressure is maintained throughout whole lifting. The flow coefficient by CFD is used in the calculation of pressure on the valve assembly. And the upper pressure in pipe is used in the calculation of the various forces on the valve body. The packing force by the effect of the fluid pressure is calculated, where the strength of packing rings and two friction coefficients between stem and bonnet and between stem and packing are used. The static diagnosis in no flow condition can be extended to the dynamic diagnosis in flow condition using the test based 1D dynamic analysis model.
