Vol.26 No.1

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate how corporate social responsibility activities affect the turnover level and technological innovation performance. Additionally, this study explores whether the turnover level has a mediating effect between corporate social responsibility activities and technological innovation performance. Research design, data, and methodology: In order to verify the hypothesis, this study uses the 2nd to 5th (2007 to 2013) data sets of the Workplace Panel Survey (WPS) as conducted by the Korea Labor Institute. And based on the methods of Baron and Kenny (1986), fixed effect regression analysis was conducted using unbalanced panel data composed of 1561 (5827 observations) companies. Finally, a bootstrap test was carried out to further verify the mediating effect of turnover level. Results: As a result of the fixed effect regression analysis and bootstrap test, the corporate social responsibility activities were found to have a negative (-) effect on turnover level. the relationship between corporate social responsibility activities and technological innovation performance was found to be positive (+). while, the relationship between turnover level and technological innovation performance was found to be negative (-). And finally, turnover level was confirmed to have a partial mediation effect between corporate social responsibility activities and technological innovation performance. Implications: This study confirms that the active implementation of corporate social responsibility activities has a positive effect on preventing the outflow of manpower and technological innovation. In addition, the turnover level will affect the innovation of enterprises. Therefore, enterprises should not regard corporate social responsibility activities as a burden. Furthermore, they should actively establish systems for corporate social responsibility activities in addition to preventing the outflow of human resources to promote corporate technological innovation.

CardioSentinal: A 24-hour Heart Care and Monitoring System

Gao, Min,Zhang, Qian,Ni, Lionel,Liu, Yunhuai,Tang, Xiaoxi Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Eng 2012 Journal of Computing Science and Engineering Vol.6 No.1

People are willing to spend more for their health. Traditional medical services are hospital-centric and patients obtain their treatments mainly at the clinics or hospitals. As people age, more medical services are needed to exceed the potentials of this hospital-centric service model. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of CardioSentinal, a 24-hour heart care and monitoring system. CardioSentinal is designed for in-home and daily medical services. It mainly focuses on the outpatients and elderly. CardioSentinal is an interdisciplinary system that integrates recent advances in many fields such as bio-sensors, small-range wireless communications, pervasive computing, cellular networks and modern data centers. We conducted numerous clinic trials for CardioSentinal. Experimental results show that the sensitivity and accuracy are quite high. It is not as good as the professional measurements in hospital due to harsh environments but the system provides valuable information for heart diseases with low-cost and extreme convenience. Some early experiences and lessons in the work will also be reported.

Longitudinal Intrinsic Brain Activity Changes in Cirrhotic Patients before and One Month after Liver Transplantation

        Yue Cheng,Li-Xiang Huang,Li Zhang,Ming Ma,Shuang-Shuang Xie,Qian Ji,Xiao-Dong Zhang,Gao-Yan Zhang,Xue-Ning Zhang,Hong-Yan Ni,Wen Shen 대한영상의학회 2017 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.18 No.2

Objective: To evaluate the spontaneous brain activity alterations in liver transplantation (LT) recipients using resting-state functional MRI. Materials and Methods: Twenty cirrhotic patients as transplant candidates and 25 healthy controls (HCs) were included in this study. All patients repeated the MRI study one month after LT. Amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) values were compared between cirrhotic patients (both pre- and post-LT) and HCs as well as between the pre- and post-LT groups. The relationship between ALFF changes and venous blood ammonia levels and neuropsychological tests were investigated using Pearson’s correlation analysis. Results: In the cirrhotic patients, decreased ALFF in the vision-related regions (left lingual gyrus and calcarine), sensorimotor-related regions (left postcentral gyrus and middle cingulate cortex), and the default-mode network (bilateral precuneus and left inferior parietal lobule) were restored, and the increased ALFF in the temporal and frontal lobe improved in the early period after LT. The ALFF decreases persisted in the right supplementary motor area, inferior parietal lobule, and calcarine. The ALFF changes in the right precuneus were negatively correlated with changes in number connection test-A scores (r = 0.507, p < 0.05). Conclusion: LT improved spontaneous brain activity and the results for associated cognition tests. However, decreased ALFF in some areas persisted, and new-onset abnormal ALFF were possible, indicating that complete cognitive function recovery may need more time.
