        Improved lithium storage performance of CeO2-decorated SrLi2Ti6O14 material as an anode for Li-ion battery

        In this work, the CeO2-decorated SrLi2Ti6O14 anode was successfully prepared through a solid-state process. The space-charge effect induced by the internal adsorption of ions on the CeO2 surface can easilyresult in a formation of an excellent conductive interfacial layer between CeO2 and SrLi2Ti6O14. The goodelectrical contact between CeO2 and SrLi2Ti6O14 offers more active sites for the electrolyte storage andredox reaction, and promotes the intercalation/deintercalation of lithium ions, and thus improves therate performance and cycle stability. Due to its unique structure and composition, the CeO2-decoratedSrLi2Ti6O14 composites exhibit high reversible capacities, good cycle performance and outstanding rateperformance. Especially, the CeO2 (5 wt%)-decorated SrLi2Ti6O14 anode shows the most excellent electrochemicalperformance, which delivers a large charge capacity of 121.3 mAh g 1 and a capacity retentionof 94.48% after 100 cycles at 0.5 A g 1. However, the corresponding charge capacity and capacity retentionof pristine SrLi2Ti6O14 are 100.5 mAh g 1 and 86.77%, respectively. The CeO2(5 wt%)-decoratedSrLi2Ti6O14 with enhanced rate capacity, cycle stability and structural stability is a potential electrodematerial candidate for Li-ion battery.

        Hypoxia Mediates Runt-Related Transcription Factor 2 Expression via Induction of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor in Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells

        Periodontitis is characterized by the loss of periodontal tissues, especially alveolar bone. Common therapies cannot satisfactorily recover lost alveolar bone. Periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) possess the capacity of self-renewal and multilineage differentiation and are likely to recover lost alveolar bone. In addition, periodontitis is accompanied by hypoxia, and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) is a master transcription factor in the response to hypoxia. Thus, we aimed to ascertain how hypoxia affects runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), a key osteogenic marker, in the osteogenesis of PDLSCs. In this study, we found that hypoxia enhanced the protein expression of HIF-1α, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and RUNX2 ex vivo and in situ. VEGF is a target gene of HIF-1α, and the increased expression of VEGF and RUNX2 proteins was enhanced by cobalt chloride (CoCl2, 100 μmol/L), an agonist of HIF-1α, and suppressed by 3-(5′-hydroxymethyl-2′-furyl)-1-benzyl indazole (YC-1, 10 μmol/L), an antagonist of HIF-1α. In addition, VEGF could regulate the expression of RUNX2, as RUNX2 expression was enhanced by human VEGF (hVEGF165) and suppressed by VEGF siRNA. In addition, knocking down VEGF could decrease the expression of osteogenesis-related genes, i.e., RUNX2, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and type I collagen (COL1), and hypoxia could enhance the expression of ALP, COL1, and osteocalcin (OCN) in the early stage of osteogenesis of PDLSCs. Taken together, our results showed that hypoxia could mediate the expression of RUNX2 in PDLSCs via HIF-1α-induced VEGF and play a positive role in the early stage of osteogenesis of PDLSCs

      • Photoluminescence of rare earth ions coactivated Ca<sub>9</sub>Y(VO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>7</sub> with cold, natural and warm white emission

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>It has been still a challenge to obtain a new single-component white-light phosphor with the vanadates as host lattices and with two types of ions as activators. A systematic Ln<SUB>1</SUB> <SUP>3+</SUP>/Ln<SUB>2</SUB> <SUP>3+</SUP> (Ln<SUB>1</SUB> <SUP>3+</SUP>/Ln<SUB>2</SUB> <SUP>3+</SUP> = Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>/Tm<SUP>3+</SUP> or Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>/Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> or Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>/Eu<SUP>3+</SUP> or Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>/Eu<SUP>3+</SUP> or Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>/Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>) coactivated Ca<SUB>9</SUB>Y(VO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>7</SUB> (CYV)samples as well as their singly doped CYV phosphors have been synthesized by the traditional solid state reaction and their photoluminescence properties have been investigated. The photoluminescence properties as a function of the concentration of rare earth ions have been discussed and the tunable luminescent color was found. The warm (CYV: 1%Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>, 1%Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>), natural (CYV: 7% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>,0.5% Eu<SUP>3+</SUP>; CYV: 1.0% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>, 0.5% Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>), and cold (CYV: 3% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>,0.5% Eu<SUP>3+</SUP>; CYV: 0.5% Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>,0.5% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>; CYV: 0.5% Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>,0.7% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>; CYV: 0.3%Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>, 0.5% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>) white lights can be obtained.         Spontaneous Sm<sup>3+</sup>→Sm<sup>2+</sup> reduction ability of MAl<sub>2</sub>Si<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub> (M = Sr, Ba): Sm

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In air atmosphere, the spontaneous reduction abilities of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>→Sm<SUP>2+</SUP> in Sm ions doped monoclinic SrAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (SASO) and BaAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (M-BASO) as well as hexagonal BaAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (H-BASO) are investigated. Sm ions doped MAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (M = Sr, Ba) samples were synthesized using Pechini-type sol-gel technology and sintered in air atmosphere and reducing condition, respectively. By comparing the photoluminescence properties of Sm doped MAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (M = Sr, Ba) calcined in air with that in reducing condition, the spontaneous reduction of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>→Sm<SUP>2+</SUP> can be detected only in the host lattice H-BASO. The essential that makes the reduction of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> to Sm<SUP>2+</SUP> was investigated by calculating their chemical bonds parameter quantitatively. The important key environmental factor of Ba<SUP>2+</SUP> in H-BASO is the largest among the three samples MAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB>. It indicates that the hexagonal H-BASO sample is the easiest one to realize the spontaneous reduction of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>→Sm<SUP>2+</SUP> among Sm doped MAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (M = Sr, Ba) samples. The needed energy transferring one electron of the ligand to the central ions Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> in H-BASO:Sm is the lowest. The theoretical analysis agrees well with the experimental result.       • Research on the Discrimination of Hatching Eggs Activity Based on Thermal Imaging : A Food Nondestructive Testing Practice

        The hatching eggs in 4-16 days incubation were from incubator of 38.5℃ to 22℃ for natural cooling and the time series images were acquired by thermal imaging technology. Analyzing the cooling curve and the cooling area and region growing, ellipse fitting, morphological processing and other methods were used to extract eggs region of interest; time series images superposition and contrast enhancement were used to raise the temperature close to the different categories of eggs gray differences; the ratio of gray value≦150 and entire ROI area was seen as characteristic parameters and the decision threshold was set according to minimum error rate Bayes rule. The non-fertilized eggs in incubating 4 days was 89.6% overall recognition and the dead embryo eggs in incubating 16 days was 96.3% overall recognition. Research showed that thermal imaging technology combined image processing technology can achieve non-destructive testing of hatching eggs activity.

        Pharmacokinetics of tilmicosin in healthy pigs and in pigs experimentally infected with Haemophilus parasuis

        A comparative in vivo pharmacokinetic (PK) study of tilmicosin (TIL) was conducted in 6 crossbred healthy pigs and 6 crossbred pigs infected with Haemophilus (H.) parasuis following oral administration of a single 40 mg/kg dose. The infected model was established by intranasal inoculation and confirmed by clinical signs, blood biochemistry, and microscopic examinations. Plasma TIL concentrations were determined by a validated high-performance liquid chromatography method with ultraviolet detection at 285 nm. PK parameters were calculated by using WinNonlin software. After TIL administration, the main PK parameters of TIL in healthy and H. parasuis-infected pigs were as follows: Area under the concentration-time curve, maximal drug concentration, half-life of the absorption phase, half-life of the distribution phase, and half-life of the elimination phase were 34.86 ± 9.69 vs. 28.73 ± 6.18 mgㆍh/mL, 1.77 ± 0.33 vs. 1.67 ± 0.28 mg/mL, 2.27 ± 0.45 vs. 2.24 ± 0.44 h, 5.35 ± 1.40 vs. 4.61 ± 0.35 h, and 43.53 ± 8.17 vs. 42.05 ± 9.36 h, respectively. These results of this exploratory study suggest that there were no significant differences between the PK profiles of TIL in the healthy and H. parasuis-infected pigs.

      • Evaluation of the Geometric Accuracy of Anatomic Landmarks as Surrogates for Intrapulmonary Tumors in Image-guided Radiotherapy

        Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the geometric accuracy of thoracic anatomic landmarks as target surrogates of intrapulmonary tumors for manual rigid registration during image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT). Methods: Kilovolt cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images acquired during IGRT for 29 lung cancer patients with 33 tumors, including 16 central and 17 peripheral lesions, were analyzed. We selected the "vertebrae", "carina", and "large bronchi" as the candidate surrogates for central targets, and the "vertebrae", "carina", and "ribs" as the candidate surrogates for peripheral lesions. Three to six pairs of small identifiable markers were noted in the tumors for the planning CT and Day 1 CBCT. The accuracy of the candidate surrogates was evaluated by comparing the distances of the corresponding markers after manual rigid matching based on the "tumor" and a particular surrogate. Differences between the surrogates were assessed using 1-way analysis of variance and post hoc least-significant-difference tests. Results: For central targets, the residual errors increased in the following ascending order: "tumor", "bronchi", "carina", and "vertebrae"; there was a significant difference between "tumor" and "vertebrae" (p = 0.010). For peripheral diseases, the residual errors increased in the following ascending order: "tumor", "rib", "vertebrae", and "carina"; There was a significant difference between "tumor" and "carina" (p = 0.005). Conclusions: The "bronchi" and "carina" are the optimal surrogates for central lung targets, while "rib" and "vertebrae" are the optimal surrogates for peripheral lung targets for manual matching of online and planned tumors.

        Molecular cloning of the duck MEF2C gene cDNA coding domain sequence and its expression during fetal muscle tissue development

        Myogenic enhancer transcription factor 2c (MEF2c), one of the members of the MEF2 family of transcription factors, plays an important role in mammalian muscle development. However, the role of MEF2c in avian muscle development still remains unclear. To understand the function of MEF2c in avian muscle development, we first cloned the duck MEF2c coding domain sequence (CDS) and analyzed MEF2c expression in duck muscle tissues of embryos from 10 days of incubation to 1 week after birth using real-time PCR technology. The results showed that the duck MEF2c CDS consists of 1,398nucleotides that encode 465 amino acids. The MEF2c duck protein contains a MADS domain, a MEF2 domain and a HJURP_C domain with high homology to related proteins in other organisms. Different expression levels of MEF2c were found in skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscle. Therefore, these results indicated that duck MEF2c has two conserved domains (a MADS and a MEF2 domain), is an indispensable regulator of muscle development, and plays an important role in the development of duck muscle.

        Reusable and Efficient Polystryrene-supported Acidic Ionic Liquid Catalyst for Mononitration of Aromatic Compounds

        A series of polystyrene-supported 1-(propyl-3-sulfonate)-3-methyl-imidazolium hydrosulfate acidic ionic liquid (PS-$[SO_3H-PMIM][HSO_4]$) catalysts were prepared and tested for mononitration of simple aromatics compounds with nitric acid. It was found that the reactivity of the catalysts increased with increasing $[SO_3H-PMIM][HSO_4]$ content. The para-selectivity was not only related to the $[SO_3H-PMIM][HSO_4]$ content but also the substituent groups in aromatics. A reaction mechanism of nitration over this new catalyst was proposed. The catalytic activity of this catalyst decreased slightly after fifth runs in the synthesis of nitrotoluene.
