Objetives : In order to provide useful data tbr the further clinical studies with Korean alcohol-dependent patients, enrollment and non-relapse rates were investigated while alcohol-dependent patients wcre followed up for 24 weeks. Methods : The subjects of this study were alcohol-dependent male patients who, for the first time, visited a hospital among 3 groups of hospitals, University Hospital, General Hospital or Mental Hospital, or those who needed to be followed up after discharge from those hospitals. After assigning 12 subjects to each hospital, we investigated enrollment and non-relapse rates while cognitive-behavioral therapy and pharmacotherapy were provided. Results : 1) Forty-eight patients were enrolled and the rate of enrollment was 36.4%. The enrollment rate in the University Hospital group was 52.1%, in the General Hospital group 50.0%. and in the Mental Hospital group 10.4%. 2) In 48 patients, non-relapse rate was 27.1% at 12 week and 18.8% at 24 weeks after starting follow-up. It was 24.4% and 20.0% at 12 and 24 weeks, repectively, in the University Hospital group while the General Hospital group showed 33.3% and 16.7%, respectively, and the Mental Hospital Group showed 20.0% at both 12 and 24 weeks. Conclusion : These results provide important data for further clinical studies of Korean alcohol-dependent patients.

본 연구는 홍화씨의 식품학적 성분 및 항균활성을 분석하였다. 홍화씨의 수분함량은 5.58±0.09%, 조단백질 37.16±0.85%, 조회분 3.52±0.04%, 조지방 13.69±8.98%, 탄수화물 40.05%이었다. 홍화씨의 총 아미노산은 391.99mg%이고, 이중 필수아미노산의 함량은 122.97 mg%이었다. 홍화씨의 아미노산 중 alanine (75.43 mg%), arginine (37.97mg%) 및 aspartic acid (33.24mg%)을 많이 함유하고 있었다. 홍화씨의 주요 유리당은 fructose가 3.29%이었고, linoleicacid (C18:2)는 약 79.46%의 비율을 차지하여 홍화씨의 조지방 중 가장 많은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, Oleic acid (C18:1)도 약 40.42%를 함유하여 불포화지방산의 함유량도 매우 높게 나타났다. 홍화씨의 무기질 함량 측정 결과, K 및 Ca의 함량이 1,528 및 1,005 mg%으로 가장 많이 함유되어 있었다. 총 페놀 및 총 플라보노이드 함량은 55.52±0.99 mg GAE/g, 78.69±0.91 mg QE/g으로 나타났다. 홍화씨의 항균활성은 농도가 증가함에 따라 Staphylococeus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, Escheria coli, Candida albicans, Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Vibrio parahaemolyticus 및 Clustridium perfringens 균에 대한 항균 효과가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. This study was conducted to investigate die Physicochemical characteristic of Cart/minus tinctorius L seed and to assess its total phenol content total flavonoids content and antimicrobial activity. The moisture, crude protein, crude fat crude ash and carbohydrates of the Cars/minus tinctorius L seed were 5.58, 37.16, 13.69, 3.52. and 40.05%, respectively. Total amino acid in Carthanmus tincrorli6 L seed was 391.99 mg% The major free sugar of Cart/minus tinctorius L seed were fructose(3.29%) and sucrose( l.74%) Linoleic acid(79.46% was a major fatty acids in the crude fat of Can/minus tinctorius L seed. The K and Ca contents were the highest in Carthamus tinctorius L seed. Total phenol and total flavonoids contents of the ethanolic extract were 55.52 ± 0.99 mg GAE/g and 78.69 ± 0.91 mg QE/g, respectively. The extract from Carthamus tinctorius L seed showed growth inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, Escheria coil, Candida albicans, Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Clustridium perfringens. These results indicate that the Carthamus tinctorius L. Seed extract can inhibit food pathogen associated with total phenol and total flavonoids contents.

<P>Background/Aim: We hypothesized that combined therapy using adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) and vitamin C might improve tendon regeneration in tendonitis. To determine combined effects of ASC transplantation with vitamin C, we used senescence marker protein 30 (SMP30)-knockout (KO) mice that cannot biosynthesize vitamin C by themselves. Materials and Methods: SMP30-KO were divided into four groups: Control, vitamin C, ASCs, and vitamin C plus ASCs. Tendonitis was induced in the achilles tendons via injection of collagenase type I. After 1 week, ASCs were injected into the intratendonal region. After 30 days, all mice were sacrificed and Achilles tendons were isolated. Results: Gross and microscopic findings showed mice treated with combination of ASC transplantation and vitamin C showed better tendon regeneration than those in other groups. This combination led to higher serum vitamin C levels than use of vitamin C alone. This indicates that the vitamin C-treated group used more vitamin C as a precursor to collagen synthesis, whereas vitamin C was in excess in the combination group because of the added effect of ASCs on tendon healing. Conclusion: This study showed that vitamin C improved the effect of ASC transplantation on tendonitis by inducing a better stem cell niche.</P>
Ordered Phases of Cesium in Carbon Nanotubes

We investigate the structural phases of Cs in carbon nanotubes by using a structural optimization process applied to an atomistic simulation method. As the radius of the carbon nanotubes is increased, the structures are found in various phases from an atomic strand to multishell packs composed of coaxial cylindrical shells. Both helical structures and layered structures are found. The numbers of helical atom rows composed of coaxial tubes and the orthogonal vectors of the circular rolling of a triangular network can explain the structural phases of Cs in carbon nanotubes.
