There is growing evidence that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is associated with increased risks of psychiatric sequelae. Depression, anxiety, cognitive impairments, sleep disturbance, and fatigue during and after the acute phase of COVID-19 are prevalent, long-lasting, and exerting negative consequences on well-being and imposing a huge burden on healthcare systems and society. This current review presented timely updates of clinical research findings, particularly focusing on the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying the neuropsychiatric sequelae, and identified potential key targets for developing effective treatment strategies for long COVID. In addition, we introduced the Formosa Long COVID Multicenter Study (FOCuS), which aims to apply the inflammation theory to the pathogenesis and the psychosocial and nutrition treatments of post-COVID depression and anxiety.

The hole-making mechanism of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP)/titanium alloy stacks is different from that of monolayer materials. In order to reveal the effects of different cutting sequence strategies on the hole-making quality and machining efficiency of the stacked materials, valuable insights are provided for the design of the stacking machining process and the selection of the most suitable cutting sequence. The researchers conducted ultrasonic vibration-assisted helical milling and conventional helical milling experiments with different milling parameters, and explored the basic influence mechanisms of CFRP → Ti and Ti → CFRP on the hole-making in both ways. The results show that different cutting sequences have significant effects on the axial force and chip morphology changes during CFRP/Ti stack machining. The dimensional accuracy and consistency of the holes cut from the Ti side are better, and the quality of the entrance and exit from the Ti side under the ultrasonically assisted condition is close to the quality level of the holes cut from the CFRP side under the normal helical milling, and the ultrasonically assisted condition plays a good role in improving the quality of the holes made. In addition, the tearing coefficients of CFRP hole entry/exit in both machining modes increased with the increase of feed per tooth in tangential direction and decreased with the increase of spindle speed. The tearing coefficients of entry/exit holes in CFRP direction were smaller than those in titanium direction.

recovering wire w1, with remembered ‘U’ shape, is located along the rod’s axis. The restoring wire w2, with memorized straight shape, is located in parallel with the rod’ axis with an offset distance d1. Two strain gauges, arranged in complemental configuration and sticking to the rod, are used to implement accurate displacement control. Upon the elicitation of the structure of a human being’s hands, a finger with multi-units is proposed. The finger has two flexible rods with embedded SMA wires and one shorter rod as a connecting part. The number and position of fingers are investigated by making use of a nonlinear plan process with an index W, a function of grasp matrix G. The hardware of the drive and control system of the gripper has been completed on the base of a DSP chip. After the track plan is realized in the joint space through B spline interpolation method, the software of the position control system is fulfilled through two-staged slide control strategy. The simulations and experiments of step response of the SMA actuator are carried out. It is shown in the experiments that the maximum angle between ends’ tangents of each finger is 68.5, 79 and 79 degrees, respectively, and the tip of each finger could reach its final position by using approximately the same time period.

Sequence of Tense in English and Chinese

This paper delves into the so-called sequence of tense (SOT) phenomena in English and Chinese, in which the reading of the past tense of the embedded clause matches with that of the matrix clause to be simultaneous or past-shifted with the time referred to by the tense in the matrix clause. Our research leads us to conclude this paper as follows. First, Chinese is also an SOT language in that the embedded clause has either a simultaneous or a past-shifted reading if the matrix predicate is an intensional verb in the past tense and the embedded predicate is a stative verb in the past tense as well. Second, both simultaneous and past-shifted readings in Chinese, unlike in English, can be conveyed even when the matrix and the embedded clause are morphologically in the present tense due to the existence of a sentential aspectual marker le. Finally, some ‘episodic verbs’ such as huaiyun ‘pregnant’ and shengbing ‘sick’ in the embedded clause in Chinese, construed as ‘stative predicates’ in English, should be classified as ‘eventive verbs’ in Chinese to yield a past-shifted interpretation.

During our screening program for agrochemicals from Chinese medicinal herbs and wild plants, the essential oilof Litsea cubeba fruits was found to possess strong contact toxicity against the cigarette beetle Lasiodermaserricorne adults and the booklouse Liposcelis bostrychophila, with LD50 values of 27.33 μg/adult and71.56 μg/cm2, respectively, and also showed strong fumigant toxicity against the two stored product insectswith LC50 values of 22.97 and 0.73 mg/L, respectively. The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation wasinvestigated by GC MS. The main components of the essential oil were identified to be E-citral (geranial)(27.49%), Z-citral (neral) (23.57%) and D-limonene (18.82%) followed by β-thujene (3.34%), β-pinene (2.85%), α-pinene (2.57%), 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one (2.40%) and linalool (2.36%). Citral (Z/E-citral), D-limonene, β-pinene,α-pinene and linalool were separated and purified by silica gel column chromatography and preparative thinlayer chromatography, and further identified by means of physicochemical and spectrometric analysis. Citral andlinalool showed strong contact toxicity against L. serricorne and L. bostrychophila (LD50 = 11.76, 12.74 μg/adultand 20.15, 99.97 μg/cm2, respectively) and fumigant toxicity against L. serricorne and L. bostrychophila (16.54,18.04 mg/L air and 0.14, 0.71 mg/L air, respectively). Otherwise, citral, D-limonene and linalool were strongly repellentagainst the cigarette beetle L. serricorne as the essential oil whereas β-pinene and α-pinene exhibited weakerrepellency against the cigarette beetle compared with the positive control, DEET. Moreover, except α-pinene andlinalool, the other three compounds as well as the essential oil exhibited comparable repellency against thebooklouse relative to DEET.
Exponential Stability Analysis of Planar Piecewise-Linear Systems: An Integral Function Approach

This paper studies the exponential stability of continuous-time planar piecewise-linear systems (PPLS). By introducing a novel conception of integral function of PPLS and showing its properties, a sufficient and necessary condition for the exponential stability is derived. Furthermore, the exponential growth rate of system trajectories can be obtained accurately by computing the convergence radius of integral function. The algorithm for computing the integral function is developed and two examples are given to demonstrate the proposed approach.
