Hemifacial spasm including blepharospasm is characterized by spontaneous clonic and tonic muscle spasm on one side of the face with synkinesis. Though the etiology of hemifacial spasm is not entirely understood, generally there are two. One is nuclear hypothesis and the other is peripheral hypothesis. There are two ways of treatment of hemifacial spasm. One is internal medicine and the other is operative method. In oriental medicine, hemifacial spasm is very similar to diseases such as Anpojindo(眼胞振跳), Poryunjindo(胞輪振跳), or Anmido(眼眉跳) in symptoms. The diseases such as Anpojindo(眼胞振跳), Poryunjindo(胞輪振跳), Anmido(眼眉跳) is related to the function of liver(肝) and risk factors are regarded as Pung(風). The acupuncture therapy of hemifacial spasm is based on Liver meridian(LV), Gallbladder meridian(GB), And ear-acupuncture is recommended as a good method for hemifacial spasm.

This study was undertaken to analyze chemical composition, macro- and micro-mineral contents of ostrich bone with flesh meat (BF), ostrich bone with flesh meat with herb medicine (BFH) and ostrich bone with internal organs (BI). Crude fat of the BFH was lower, but crude protein and crude ash of the BFH were significantly higher than those of the BF and the Bl. Among the minerals, Ca, P. Mg, Fe, Cu, Zn content of the BFH were significantly higher than the content in the BF and the BE The minerals, Ph, Cd and As were not detected in ostrich and herb medicine extracts. From the sensory, test of ostrich and herb medicine, the preferences were in the following order: ostrich bone with flesh meat with herb medicine (BFH), ostrich bone with flesh meat (BF), and ostrich bone with internal organs (BI) in extracts.

The 3rd Japan-Korea Workshop on Acupuncture and EBM was held at Kanazawa on June $16^{th}$. From Korea team, 4 papers were presented. Dr. Hahn introduced a new approach of data analysis on series of n-of-1 trials using the Bayesian statistics. It offered important information for the future n-of-1 trials. Dr. Park clearly demonstrated the significance of various sham devices proposed and stressed the importance of research questions when we choose the control intervention in RCT. Dr. Lee reported the results of survey in Korean Medical Doctors (KMD) for their point selection and techniques to the distal and local points. Dr. Kim presented the results of face to face survey on the KMD with 28 items for acupuncture treatment on the knee OA. Finally, a draft of protocol was introduced by Dr. Kim. The title was "multi-center, a randomized, single blinded, two arms, parallel-group study to compare the effectiveness and safety of 'individualized acupuncture' and 'standardized minimal acupuncture' in Korean and Japanese patients with knee osteoarthritis (Phase IV)". From Japan team, 7 speakers presented their comments and proposals on the protocol. Dr. Takahashi introduced several issues regarding n-of-1 trials and pointed out the importance of obtaining generalizability from n-of-1 trials. Dr. Shichidou pointed the importance of research design, selection of outcome measures and reduction of biases. Dr. Itoh presented the results of point selection for the knee OA based on the literature survey. Dr. Sumiya introduced several differences between KMD and Japanese acupuncturists based on the questionnaire used in KMD survey. Dr. Furuya demonstrated a result of press tack needle and its sham device on shoulder stiffness. Dr. Yamashita introduced the results of literature survey regarding adverse events occurred by acupuncture on knee OA. Dr.Tsukayama stressed the importance of responsibility of Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the conduction of clinical trials. After several issues were discussed, the need of continued meeting for final protocol development was agreed, then the workshop was closed.

This study was carried out to assess the potential of intranasal administration of ondansetron (a 5-HT₃ receptor antagonist, which antagonize the acute emetic response) in preventing cisplatin-induced emesis in the ferret. After intranasal administration of ondansetron at doses of 0.3 and 0.6 ㎎/㎏, the peak plasma concentrations (Cmax) were 38 and 66.7 ng/mL, and attained at 13 and 23 min (Tmax) respectively. The intravenous (0.3 ㎎/㎏) and intranasal (0.6 ㎎/㎏) administrations of ondansetron significantly delayed the latency time to the first retching and vomiting. In acute phase of emesis during 24 hr, the number of vomits and retches were significantly reduced both in intravenous and intranasal administration groups. In delayed emesis (24-72 hr), intranasal administration of ondansetron at a higher dose of 0.6 ㎎/㎏ or intravenous injection of 0.3 ㎎/㎏ significantly reduced retching but not vomiting. Intranasal ondansetron, administered as 0.6 ㎎/㎏ dose, provided potency in antiemetic control comparable to intravenous ondansetron (0.3 ㎎/㎏) in cisplatin-induced acute emesis, without well known side effects when injected via intravenously. These results suggest that intranasal administration of ondansetron can be an effective substitute for intravenous administration for the prevention of cisplatin-induced acute emesis.

Objective : Auricular acupuncture is a method of treatment that involves needling the ear in order to produce relief of symptoms. This concept was first developed by P.Nogier, french doctor and referred to as somatotopic representation. Many authors have commented the fact that the vagus nerve supplies the external auditory and the concha. The aim of this randomised, single blind study was to investigate whether auricular acupuncture of the ear produced changes in the pulse rate, an indicator of vagal tone. Methods: 10 healthy man volunteers were divided into normal and epinephrine stimulation group. Then each group was divided into vagus area acupuncture and control area acupuncture group again. Epinephrine stimulation group was injected by epinephrine 0.3cc twice, first. All of them were needled in either the vagus area or control area of the ear, and pulse rate changes were measured by patient monitor over 1 hour. Results : In the epinephrine stimulation group, there was significant differences in the pulse rate change between vagus area acupuncture and control area acupuncture group. After injection of epinephrine, the basal pulse rate was increased 1.3~1.4 times in the control group. However, in the vagus area acupuncture group the basal pulse rate was increased only 1.1~1.2 times.

PyoBon GeunGyul - one of the twelve regular meridians theory - play a important role on the principle of point selection and point prescription in acumoxibustion. PyoBon explain the connection of the concentration and diffusion of channel qi, GeunGyul explain the relation of both poles of channels flow. So, Geun and Bon means the starting point of channel qi, and Pyo and Gyul means the terminal point of channel qi. But the flow of channel qi on PyoBon GeunGyul different from today's circulation courses of twelve regular channels based on Kyungmaek(經脈) chapter of Youngchu. Thus this study investigate the contents of PyoBon GeunGyul and consider its connection with channel flow. The results are as follows : 1. PyoBon GeunGyul theory explain that the relation of the limbs and trunk at meridian and emphasize that the connection of meridian and the importance of the limb acupoints. 2. PyoBon GeunGyul theory can be understandable in the view of the primordial qi and explain that the primordial qi of twelve regular channels acts from the limbs to the trunk. 3. PyoBon GeunGyul theory is based on the system of primordial qi channel which circulates from fingers and toes facing toward heart or the head, different from today's circulation courses of twelve regular meridians. 4. PyoBon GeunGyul theory act as a basis of principle of a part or distant point selection which applicated widely in acumoxibustion.
