        이효성(HyoSeong Lee),이주환(JuHwan Lee),이택(Taek Lee),장기성(GiSeong Jang),이정휴(JungHue Lee),유철중(Cheol-Jung Yoo) 한국정보기술학회 2020 Proceedings of KIIT Conference Vol.2020 No.10

Since the advent of open banking technology, users have been able to check the balance of all accounts with one bank mobile application. Related banking applications in the existing market offer the ability to register multiple accounts and inform the integrated balance, but they had the disadvantage of having to check account information manually. The project implemented an integrated balance inquiry function that shows the balance of multiple accounts using the open banking technology above, and a function that allows users to check the balance of accounts in real time without running the application by utilizing the widget function to address the disadvantage of passive access to the application.

The Effect of Cigarette Smoking on Physical Fitness and Depression of Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain

        ( Juhwan Lee ),( Sieun Park ) 대한물리치료학회 2015 대한물리치료학회지 Vol.27 No.4

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of cigarette smoking on physical fitness (dominant hand grip power, dominant isokinetic leg muscle strength, abdominal muscle endurance, flexibility, cardiopulmonary endurance) and depression in patients with chronic low back pain. Methods: This study was a cross sectional study and subjects consisted of 60 young males with chronic low back pain. The subjects were allocated to two groups following a self-report survey: cigarette smoking group (n=25) or non-smoking group (n=35). Physical fitness (dominant hand grip power, dominant isokinetic leg muscle strength, abdominal muscle endurance, flexibility, cardiopulmonary endurance) were measured using objective methods and depression in patients with chronic low back pain was measured using the Korean version of center for epidemiologic studies depression (CES-D) scale. Results: The results of this study were as follows: In physical fitness, the cigarette smoking group showed a significant decrease in abdominal muscle endurance, flexibility, and cardiopulmonary endurance compared with the non-smoking group. Depression index (CES-D scale score) was significantly higher in the cigarette smoking group than in the non-smoking group. Conclusion: These results suggest that cigarette smoking had a negative effect on abdominal muscle endurance, flexibility, and cardiopulmonary endurance in patients with chronic low back pain. In addition, depression of patients with chronic low back pain was affected by cigarette smoking. Thus, we suggested that cigarette smoking may play a significant role in the deterioration of physical fitness and depression of chronic low back pain patients.

Upregulation of GM-CSF by TGF-β1 in epithelial mesenchymal transition of human HERS/ERM cells.

        Lee, Joo-Hee,Nam, Hyun,Um, Soyoun,Lee, Juhwan,Lee, Gene,Seo, Byoung Moo Springer 2014 In vitro cellular & developmental biology Animal Vol.50 No.5

<P>Hertwig's epithelial root sheath/epithelial rests of Malassez (HERS/ERM) have been suggested to play an important role in tooth root formation, particularly in periodontal development. Epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) has been suggested to contribute to root development in tooth. However, the mechanism of interaction between HERS/ERM cells and dental mesenchymal cells has not been fully understood. In this study, we investigated the effect of exogenous transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-beta 1) in human HERS/ERM cells in order to verify the role of granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) in EMT process. Antibody array was used to screen secretion factors by exogenous TGF-beta 1. Secretion of GM-CSF was increased by exogenous TGF-beta 1. Expression levels of EMT markers, vimentin, ZEB1 (zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1), and E-cadherin, were confirmed using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunocytochemistry. Treatment with GM-CSF increased the expression of vimentin and ZEB1, similar to TGF-beta 1 treatment, and decreased the expression of E-cadherin. Our results suggest that GM-CSF could induce EMT in human HERS/ERM cells.</P>

WNT11 is a direct target of early growth response protein 1

( Juhwan Kim ),( Euitaek Jung ),( Sung Shin Ahn ),( Hyunjin Yeo ),( Jeong Yeon Lee ),( Jeong Kon Seo ),( Young Han Lee ),( Soon Young Shin ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2020 BMB Reports Vol.53 No.12

WNT11 is a member of the non-canonical Wnt family and plays a crucial role in tumor progression. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying WNT11 expression are unclear. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα) is a major inflammatory cytokine produced in the tumor microenvironment and contributes to processes associated with tumor progression, such as tumor invasion and metastasis. By using site-directed mutagenesis and introducing a serial deletion in the 5’-regulatory region of WNT11, we observed that TNFα activates the early growth response 1 (EGR1)-binding sequence (EBS) in the proximal region of WNT11 and that the transcription factor EGR1 is necessary for the TNFα-induced transcription of WNT11. EGR1 bound directly to the EBSs within the proximal 5'-regulatory region of WNT11 and ectopic expression of EGR1 stimulated WNT11 promoter activity, whereas the knockdown of EGR1 expression by RNA interference reduced TNFα-induced WNT11 expression in T47D breast cancer cells. We also observed that mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), extracellular signalregulated kinase (ERK), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), and p38 kinase mediated TNFα-induced transcription of WNT11 via EGR1. Our results suggest that EGR1 directly targets WNT11 in response to TNFα stimulation in breast cancer cells. [BMB Reports 2020; 53(12): 628-633]

Relationships between Methane Production and Sulfate Reduction in Reclaimed Rice Field Soils

Juhwan Lee,Kang-Hyun Cho 한국통합생물학회 2004 Animal cells and systems Vol.8 No.4

The change in relationships between methane production and sulfate reduction was investigated in reclaimed rice field soils at different time points after reclamation of tidal flat in Korea. Sulfate concentrations of soils in the ca. 60-year-old and 26-year-old reclaimed rice fields were much lower than that in a natural tidal flat. During 60 d of anaerobic incubation, total methane production and sulfate consumption of the soil slurries were 7.0 mmol CH4 / g and 8.2 mmol SO 42-/ g in the 60-year-old rice field, 5.6 mmol CH4 / g and 12.7 mmol SO 42- /g in the 26-year-old rice field, and ca. 0 mmol CH4 / g and 22.4 mmol SO42- / g in a natural tidal flat. Relative percent electron flow through sulfate reduction in the 60-year-old rice field was much lower (50.8%) compared with the 26-year-old rice field (69.3%) and the tidal flat (99.9%). The addition of an inhibitor of methanogenesis (2-bromoethanesulfonate) had no effect on sulfate reduction in the soil slurries of the reclaimed rice fields. However, instant stimulation of methane production was achieved with addition of an inhibitor of sulfate reduction (molybdate) in the soil slurries from the 26-year-old reclaimed rice field. The specific inhibitor experiments suggest that the relationship of methanogenesis and sulfate reduction might become mutually exclusive or syntrophic depending on sulfate content in the soil after reclamation. Sulfate, thus sulfate reduction activity of sulfate-reducing bacteria, would be an important environmental factor that inhibits methane production and determines the major pathway of electron and carbon flow in anaerobic carbon mineralization of reclaimed rice field soils.

Revisiting hydrogen spillover in Pt/LTA: Effects of physical diluents having different acid site distributions

        Lee, Songhyun,Lee, Kyungho,Im, Juhwan,Kim, Hyungjun,Choi, Minkee Elsevier 2015 Journal of catalysis Vol.325 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Historically, Pt/LTA (<I>e.g</I>., Pt/NaA) has often been used as a model catalyst for studying the catalytic functions of hydrogen spillover (H spillover). Notably, none of the works reported appreciable catalytic activities for Pt/LTA alone, while markedly enhanced activities were reported after physical dilution with some acidic oxides. It was often speculated without experimental evidence that activated hydrogen generated from Pt/LTA can migrate to the diluents surface (“inter-particular” H spillover) where organic reactants can react with spilt-over hydrogen. In this work, we carefully studied benzene hydrogenation activities of Pt/NaA and its decationized form (Pt/HA), before and after the physical dilution with various metal oxides possessing different Lewis and Brønsted acidity. The originally negligible activity of Pt/NaA increased significantly after mixing with various acidic oxides. The physical dilutions, however, resulted in a significant alteration of Pt/NaA structure due to solid-state H+ exchange, which made the catalytic interpretation vague. In contrast, Pt/HA structure did not change after the dilutions, and thus could be used as an ideal catalytic model system for studying inter-particular H spillover. The catalytic results showed that Al-rich metal oxides with abundant Lewis acid sites are effective for enhancing the catalytic activity.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Catalytic effects of physically diluting Pt/NaA and Pt/HA with various acidic metal oxides were studied. </LI> <LI> Physical dilution altered the original structure of Pt/NaA due to solid-state H+-exchange. </LI> <LI> Physical dilution did not change the structure of decationized form of Pt/NaA (Pt/HA). </LI> <LI> Dilution with Al-rich metal oxides can markedly enhance the catalytic activity of Pt/HA. </LI> <LI> Lewis acid sites may play a significant role in the catalytic use of hydrogen spillover. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Risk Factors for the Prescription of Ineffective Antiviral Candidates for COVID-19 During the Early Pandemic Period in Korea

        Lee Eunyoung,Kim Seungyeon,Lee Sun Young,Jeong Joo,Bang Jihwan,Oh Juhwan,Shin Sang Do,Kim Nam Joong,Choe Pyoeng Gyun,Oh Myoung-don 대한의학회 2023 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.38 No.36

Background: Although the evidence of treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) changed rapidly, little is known about the patterns of potential pharmacological treatment during the early period of the COVID-19 pandemic in Korea and the risk factors for ineffective prescription. Methods: Using claims data from the Korean National Health Insurance System, this retrospective cohort study included admission episodes for COVID-19 from February to December 2020. Ineffective antiviral prescriptions for COVID-19 were defined as lopinavir/ ritonavir (LPN/r) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) prescribed after July 2020, according to the revised National Institute of Health COVID-19 treatment guidelines. Factors associated with ineffective prescriptions, including patient and hospital factors, were identified by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: Of the 15,723 COVID-19 admission episodes from February to June 2020, 4,183 (26.6%) included prescriptions of LPN/r, and 3,312 (21.1%) included prescriptions of HCQ. Of the 48,843 admission episodes from July to December 2020, after the guidelines were revised, 2,258 (4.6%) and 182 (0.4%) included prescriptions of ineffective LPN/r and HCQ, respectively. Patient factors independently associated with ineffective antiviral prescription were older age (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] per 10-year increase, 1.17; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.14–1.20) and severe condition with an oxygen requirement (aOR, 2.49; 95% CI, 2.24–2.77). The prescription of ineffective antiviral drugs was highly prevalent in primary and nursing hospitals (aOR, 40.58; 95% CI, 31.97–51.50), public sector hospitals (aOR, 15.61; 95% CI, 12.76–19.09), and regions in which these drugs were highly prescribed before July 2020 (aOR, 10.65; 95% CI, 8.26–13.74). Conclusion: Ineffective antiviral agents were prescribed to a substantial number of patients during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic in Korea. Treatment with these ineffective drugs tended to be prolonged in severely ill patients and in primary and public hospitals.
