        A set of experiments of Counter - Current Flow Limit ( CCFL or Flooding ) was executed to improve the drawbacks of Wallis' Correlation which neglects channel length, injection method of liquid and gas phase. In these experiments, using water and air, the followings are found ; ⅰ) The effect of channel length is quite significant, ⅱ) By increasing gas flow rate ( gas velocity ) the flooding point moves upward. This phenomenum is believed to be the effect of flow developing along the channel. ⅲ) The effect of water inlet device is not so significant as that of channel length. But the inlet boundary conditions can also effect the flow developing and flooding afterward, ⅳ) When flooding front reaches the inlet of water injection device, a new reduced flow conditions are set up and resulted in another flooding. This event can be explained by the flooding at the water inlet, therefore, the water can not flow down easily.

      • 비선형 시스템의 진화형 신경회로망 제어기의 구현

        The stabilization control of Inverted Pendulum(IP) system is difficult because of its nonlinearity and structural unstability. Futhermore, a series of conventional techniques such as the pole placement and the optimal control based on the local linearizations have narrow stabilizable regions. At the same time, the fine tunings of their gain parameters are also troublesome. Thus, in this paper, an Evolving Neural Network Controller(ENNC) which its structure and its connection weights are optimized simultaneously by Real Variable Elitist Genetic Algorithm(RVEGA) was presented for stabilization of an IP system with nonlinearity. This proposed ENNC was described by a simple genetic chromosome. And the deletion of neuron, the determinations of input or output neuron, the deleted neuron and the activation functions types are given according to the various flag types. Therefore, the connection weights, its structure and the neuron types in the given ENNC can be optimized by the proposed evolution strategy. And the proposed ENNC was implemented successfully on the ADA-2310 data acquisition board and the P-III microprocessor in order to stabilize the nonlinear system. initial values and the external disturbances applied to pendulum. Its main hardwares were made of the ADA-2310 data acquisition board and the P-III microprocessor. Through the simulation and experimental results, we showed that the finally acquired optimal PENNC was very useful in the stabilization control of nonlinear(IP) system.

        0.2% 불화나트륨 용액으로 5년간 양치한 초등학교 아동의 영구치 우식증 예방효과

        Supervised weekly fluoride mouthrinsing(FMR) program with 0.2 percent neutral sodium fluroide solution has been implemented at primary schools in Pusan, Korea since 1995 to prevent the prevalent dental caries. Children of sixth grade in 2000 who had joined the weekly FMR program at four primary school in Pusan with a 0.2 percent sodium fluoride solution for five years from first grade in 1995 to fifth grade in 1999 were selected as experimental group. Children of sixth grade in 2000 who had not joined the FMR program until sixth grade and had not drunk fluoridated pulic water at two primary schools in the Bukgu(Norhtern) District of Ulsan were selected as control group. Samples were 295 in FMR group and 312 in control group. To estimate caries preventive effect, epidemiologic dental survey was performed at the schools of FMR and control group in 2000 for 11-year-old children. The surveyed data were analyzed with SPSS statistical package. The obtained results were as follws. 1. Children who experienced caries on permanent teeth were 71.2% in FMR group and 83.3% in control group. 12.1% of DMF rate decreased in FMR group compared to control group. 2. The DMFT scores were 2.68 in FMR group and 3.29 in control group. The difference of DMFT scores was 0.61 between fluoride mouthrinsing group. The caries reduction rate from 5-year FMR program was calculated as 18.5% by the difference of DMFT scores between FMR group and control group. 3. The DMFS scores were 4.04 in FMR group and 5.05 in control group. The difference of DMFS scores was 1.01 between FMR group and control group. The caries reduction rate from 5-year FMR program was calculated as 20.0% by the difference of DMFS scores between FMR group and control group. 4. Significant Caries Index of permanent teeth was 5.46 in FMR group and 6.02 in control group. 5. We suggest that fluoride mouthrinsing program should be developed to all primary schools to prevent dental caries.

        Epidemiologic study of hand and upper extremity injuries by power tools

        Background Hand injuries caused by chain saws, electric saws, and hand grinders range from simple lacerations to tendon injuries, fractures, and even amputations. This study aimed to understand the distribution of various types of hand and upper extremity injuries caused by power tools, in order to help prevent them, by investigating the incidence and cause of power tool injuries treated over a 4-year period at a single institution in Korea. Methods We reviewed the medical records of patients who visited a single institution for power tool-induced injuries from 2011 to 2014. The distribution of sex, age, injured body part, type of injury, and mechanism of injury sustained by patients who received hand and upper extremity injuries from using an engine saw, electric saw, or hand grinder was evaluated. Results Among 594 subjects who were injured by power tools, 261 cases were hand and upper extremity injuries. The average age was 53.2 years. Tendon injury was the most common type of injury. An electric saw was the most common type of power tool used. More injuries occurred in non-occupational settings than in occupational settings. Conclusions In this study, power tool-induced hand and upper extremity injuries were mostly caused by direct contact with electric saw blades. More injuries occurred due to non-occupational use of these tools, but the ratios of amputations and structural injuries were similar in the non-occupational and occupational groups.

      • Effective Acclimation System for in Vitro Regenerated Plant lets of Soybean

        To establish an efficient acclimation system for regenerated plantlets of soybean, we used various media with hydroponic nutrient solutions before regenerants were transplanted into soil. The hydroponic nutrient solution was essential for the survival of the plantlets. The vermiculite with nutrient solution at pH 5.5 was found to be the best medium with 97-100% survival rate and better growth of regenerants plantlets. Regeneraed grew best in the following order of solutions: Yoshida solution, modified Yoshida solution, SoyI, Soy II, and MS medium. However, Soy I solution (EC 2.9 mS/cm), developed by the Honam Agricultural Research Institute proved to be the most effective for acclimation in terms of the time required for vigorous growth and economical use of chemicals.

        <P>Mitochondrial microsatellite instability (mtMSI) and mutations of mitochondrial DNA has been reported in cancer epithelia of carcinomas. However, mtMSI in cancer stroma has not yet been identified in human cancers. In this study, we attempted to determine if mtMSI occurs in the cancer stroma of sporadic colorectal cancers, and if the stromal mtMSI has any correlations with stromal nuclear MSI (nMSI) and cancer epithelial mtMSI. Nine microsatellite sequences within the D-loop and 5 coding genes for mtMSI, and 9 microsatellites for nMSI were analyzed in the microdissected cancer epithelia and adjacent stromas of 48 sporadic colorectal cancers. Overall, 23 somatic mitochondrial DNA alterations were detected in 15 cancer epithelia (31.2%) and 5 stromas (10.4%). The mutations consisted of 19 D-loop mtMSI alterations, and 1 missense and 3 framshift mutations of repeat sequences within the coding genes. All of the 5 stromal genetic alterations showed D-loop mtMSI. In regards to other MSI status, the stromal mtMSI had no association with stromal nMSI or epithelial mtMSI, either. These findings indicate that in addition to the cancer epithelia the cancer stroma harbor mtMSI, and suggest a possible role of stromal mtMSI in the pathogenesis of colorectal cancers. Furthermore, the data suggest that stromal mtMSI may occur independently of stromal nMSI and epithelial mtMSI in sporadic colorectal cancers. © 2006 Wiley-Liss, Inc.</P>

        Isolation and Characterization of Pepper mottle virus Infecting Tomato in Korea

        A peculiar virus-like disease of tomato showing yellow mosaic and necrotic spots on leaves and necrosis on veins, petioles and stems was observed at the Tomato Experimental Station (TES), Buyeo, Chungcheongnamdo, Korea. The disease incidence at TES fields ranged from 21 to 35% infecting different tomato cultivars. For this reason, to identify the virus infecting tomato and to characterize the virus based on biology, serology, cytology and at molecular level. Here, leaf samples were randomly collected from different infected tomato cultivars at TES fields and greenhouses and tested by ELISA using Pepper mottle virus (PePMoV) and Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV) antisera. Infected saps were mechanically inoculated in different host plants to test for pathogenicity, symptomatology and host ranges. Infected tissues and ultrathin sections were examined by electron microscopy. Finally, putative coat protein and 3'-untranslated region (CP/3'-UTR) fragment was amplified and cloned for sequence determination and analyzed its genetic relationship to existing PepMoV and PVY sequences at the Genbank. Results showed 69% of the samples were positive with PepMoV, 13% with ToMV and 19 % were doubly infected with PepMoV and ToMV. Symptoms greatly varied from different host plants inoculated with tomato leaf sap infected with PepMoV alone and discussed in detailed in this paper. Electron microscopy from infected tissues showed filamentous particles of 720-750nm in length, a typical morphology and size of PepMoV. In addition, cylindrical inclusion bodies, pinwheels, scrolls and laminates with masses of fibrillar inclusions were also found in ultrathin sections. Alignment of the sequences of the CP/3'-UTR revealed >96% sequence identity with PepMoV and only <61% with PVY. Taken together, all these evidences presented clearly indicated that the causal agent infecting tomato at TES was PepMoV and we designated this PepMoV infecting tomato as Tom-sd2 strain in this study.

        Characteristics of Cucumber mosaic virus Infecting Zucchini in Korea

        A virus causing stunt, yellowing, severe mosaic, malformation symptoms on leaves and uneven development and malformation on fruits of zucchini was prevalent around Goseong, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. A survey conducted (2004) in the Goseong area revealed about 20% virus infection rate. The disease causative identified as Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV-Z1) was further characterized. The isolate induces mosaic symptoms on Cucumis sativus, while severe mosaic, stunt and malformation on C. pepo. Thin section analyses have shown that virus inclusions are formed in the cuticle layers as well as epidermal, parenchyma and collenchymas cells in virus-infected Nicotiana tabacum. CMV-Z1 isolate induced specific cytoplasmic inclusion bodies such as irregular clumps (IC), crystal (Cr) and irregular chloroplasts (ICh). IC was made up of virus particles interspersed with a darkly stained amorphous material and found both in the cytoplasm and vacuoles, whereas ICh and Cr were rarely found in the vacuoles. The genome of CMV-Z1 RNA-1 consists of 3359 nucleotide (nt) encoding 1a protein of 993 amino acids (aa). The CMV-Z1 RNA-2 was 3050 nt in length containing 2a (857 aa) and 2b (110 aa), while RNA-3 encoding 3a movement protein (279 aa) and coat protein (218 aa) was 2215 nt in length. Phylogenetic analyses of nucleotide sequences of CMV-Z1 isolate appeared it is more closely related to subgroup IA than to subgroup IB or II.
