Impacts of menu information quality and nutrition information quality on technology acceptance characteristics and behaviors toward fast food restaurants’ kiosk

        Jihee Han,Hyeyoung Moon,Yoonha Oh,Ji Yun Chang,Sunny Ham 대한지역사회영양학회 2020 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.14 No.2

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: With the advances in technologies, self-service kiosks at foodservice operations are becoming a new way of service provision. This study examined the relationships among the menu information quality, nutrition information quality, technology acceptance characteristics, and customer behavioral intention toward the kiosks in fast food restaurants. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A survey with a self-administered method was distributed online and offline. The sample consisted of customers who had used the kiosks at fast food restaurants in the last six months prior to the survey. The study hypotheses were tested by applying structural equation modeling. RESULTS: Structural equation modeling revealed the positive impacts of menu information quality and nutrition information quality, technology acceptance characteristics, and behavioral intention toward kiosks at fast food restaurants. On the other hand, one hypothesis (Hypothesis 4) on the impact of nutrition information quality on the perceived usefulness was rejected. CONCLUSION: The study is the first to investigate nutrition and menu information at foodservice kiosks and relate them to technology acceptance. The study is very timely and adequate in the time of the 4th industrial revolution. The critical importance of the presentation of nutrition information and menu information at the kiosks at fast food restaurants was verified. The academic and industrial implications of the study findings were discussed.

        Robert Frost’s Modernist Paradox : Part I

Jihee Han 한국동서비교문학학회 2016 동서 비교문학저널 Vol.0 No.38

Robert Frost has rarely been named in a pantheon of American modernist poets, where Ezra Pound, T. S. Eliot, Wallace Stevens, and Marianne Moore all have a place. Rather, he has often been associated with Georgian poets of the late nineteenth century and categorized as “a gentle farmer poet” of New England nature poetry or “a New England folkie” who celebrated the local Yankee spirit. Reading his biography, however, it is surprising to find that Frost actively attended all the lectures on Eastern poetry and arts and was busy with eavesdropping the latest news and avant-garde trends in New Poetry during his stay in England. This paper, thus, re-views Frost’s conscious choice to walk on the local road even after having experienced the world sentiments in London, the heart of Anglo-American literature. In particular, paying attention to his third volume, Mountain Interval, it analyses how Frost uses a common, local ovenbird as a symbol for his modernist artistic soul and how he presents his ambition to become a world-class poet by consciously becoming a local American poet and taking a flight to a new plateau through deterritorializing the spaces of literary traditions. Ultimately, it aims to examine the efficacy of a current discursive model of the core and the periphery in world literature through Frost’s modernist paradox.

A Thinking Woman Caged in a Fat, Ugly, Unwomanly Body

Jihee Han 한국동서비교문학학회 2017 동서 비교문학저널 Vol.0 No.42

This paper sheds light on a series of symbolic aggression inflicted by gentleman poets and critics upon Amy Lowell, since they take on additional force in the devaluation of Lowell’s Imagism due to their profess of objective, scientific study of literature. Looking into the entries in Lowell’s memoirs and biographies, this paper illustrates how she tried to link her social origin to the intellectual capital in order to campaign her cultural agenda of New Imagist Poetry. In addition, removing the curtain of academic bigotry against “Amygism,” it uncovers the male-centered reality of American literary industry where gentleman-critics have long maintained their priority on the academic/intellectual tastes in the judgement of true nobility. Ultimately, it aims to present another view of Lowell as a modernist poet who broke through the entrenched cliches of Victorian genteel womanhood as well as an accomplished modern woman who attempted to generate momentum toward a more egalitarian society with her woman-centered aesthetic taste.

A Mikang and An Orange: Ezra Pound, Yone Noguchi, and Poetics of Translation

        ( Jihee Han ) 한국영어영문학회 2017 영어 영문학 Vol.63 No.4

In examining the validity of the claim that Yone Noguchi made a critical influence on Ezra Pound’s Imagism, this paper describes a brief history of the ‘Hokku’ in East Asia and traces how the classical Chinese poetic component, ‘Faju,’ is changed into the Japanese vernacular ‘Hokku’ and ‘Haikai’ and then naturalized into a modern Western style ‘Haiku’ poem. Then, it examines Noguchi’s interpretations of the Japanese Hokku spirit in the context of the invented traditions of modern Japan, orchestrated by Okakura Kakuzo with the help of Ernest Fenollosa. Finally, it sheds light on Pound’s comparative approach to world literatures around the early 1910s and argues that his poetic theory of vorticism germinated from his cosmopolitan spirit to preserve the links with other nations, literatures, and cultures.

        A Re-Reading of W. B. Yeats's Poems on Nature

Jihee Han 한국예이츠학회 2012 한국예이츠 저널 Vol.37 No.-

W. B. Yeats, due to his Romantic leanings, has been understood as creating a transcendental Arcadia in his poems on nature. Nevertheless, Yeats’s pastoral scenery, aligned with other Western metaphors of nature such as Eden, Arcadia, and the Garden, conveys feelings essentially different from tragic escapism. Interestingly enough, his proto-ecological imagination echoes a parallel with the “nature-centered” worldview of Korea’s Joseon period. Thus, I shall not merely identify East-Asian cultural traces in Yeats’ lyric poems, but I also propose to examine how Yeats’ aesthetic appreciation of nature echoes Joseon-Korea’s Ghangho poetics.

Periodontal and root changes after orthodontic treatment in middle-aged adults are similar to those in young adults

        Han, Jihee,Hwang, Soonshin,Nguyen, Tung,Proffit, William R.,Soma, Kunimichi,Choi, Yoon Jeong,Kim, Kyung-Ho,Chung, Chooryung J. Elsevier 2019 American journal of orthodontics and dentofacial o Vol.155 No.5

<P><B>Introduction</B></P> <P>The goal of this study was to compare the outcomes and amount of change in periodontal health of anterior teeth in young versus middle-aged adults, who were treated to improve anterior alignment and occlusion.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>Pre- and posttreatment records including orthodontic casts, cephalograms, and standardized periapical radiographs were retrospectively collected from young adults (aged 19-30 years; n = 12) and middle-aged adults (aged ≥40 years; n = 27). Following the American Board of Orthodontics criteria, discrepancy index (DI), cast-radiograph evaluation (CRE), treatment duration (TD), marginal bone loss (MBL), and tooth length (TL) were measured, and with the use of periapical radiographs, changes in the level of marginal bone (MBC) and the amount of root resorption (RR) after orthodontic treatment were calculated.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>DI, MBL, and TD were significantly higher in the middle-aged adults than in the young adults (<I>P</I> < 0.05). However, CRE and MBC after treatment were similar between the 2 groups (<I>P</I> > 0.05). The mean amount of RR following treatment was −0.6 ± 0.44 mm and −1.0 ± 0.61 mm in young and middle-aged adults, respectively. The degree of RR after compensating for treatment complexity and TD was similar between the 2 groups (<I>P</I> > 0.05).</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Although the initial malocclusion and periodontal conditions were unfavorable for the middle-aged adults, the overall treatment and periodontal outcomes after orthodontic treatment of the anterior teeth were similar to those for young adults. It appears that older adults tolerate orthodontics to improve the appearance of the anterior teeth as well as younger adults, with no additional burden because of their increased age.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Treatment outcomes in the anterior teeth were evaluated in young and middle-aged adults. </LI> <LI> Marginal bone loss and root resorption were measured with the use of standardized periapical radiographs. </LI> <LI> Occlusal changes were monitored with the use of modified discrepancy index and cast-radiograph evaluation. </LI> <LI> The magnitude of periodontal and root changes after treatment in middle-aged adults was similar to that in young adults, although the cumulative change was greater in the older group. </LI> </UL> </P>

The Purloined Letter of “友”: A Critique of Ezra Pound’s Poetics of Translation

        ( Jihee Han ) 한국영어영문학회 2019 영어 영문학 Vol.65 No.4

Taking note of Pound’s “programmatically cosmopolitan” comparative criticism in The Spirit of Romance, this paper challenges Hugh Kenner’s argument that Cathay’s achievement lies in Pound’s serious “effort to rethink the nature of an English poem.” In the discursive contexts of Foucault’s critique of truth and power and Martin Heiddeger’s notion of ‘being in the world,’ this paper suggests that Pound’s translated text does not constitute a second-order representation or a derivative, fake, potentially false copy of Li Bai’s original poetic texts, but rather a specimen of ‘another original’ created by a translator. For this purpose, this paper selects “Seeing Off Meng Haoran Leaving for Guanglin at Yellow Crane Pavilion,” “Seeing Off a Friend,” and “Seeing Off a Friend Heading for Shu Country.” For these three translated texts share a cryptic presence of “a friend” (“故人” or “友” in classical Chinese written characters), which may facilitate a novel understanding of Pound’s capability in the convergence of Eastern and Western poetic traditions that he had known of. Given the new approach, this paper attempts to reassess the real achievement of Cathay in the frontier of comparative poetics and makes an estimation of how Pound discloses Li’s world for readers to meditate on their ‘being in the world’ with his full-fledged vision of Vorticism. Ultimately, this paper aims to demonstrate that Pound’s editorial judgment, fashioned in the process of translating these three poems, constituted a critical preparatory stage for the refinement of his Vorticist vision.

Amygism or Imagism?: Re-Vision of Amy Lowell’s Discourse of Imagism

        ( Jihee Han ) 한국영어영문학회 2018 영어 영문학 Vol.64 No.2

This paper, postulating that Lowell’s Imagism is not some “Amygism” that wobbles with “emotional slither,” “mushy technique” and “general floppiness” as Pound once mocked, but another kind of poetic discourse that deserves the fullest re-consideration, goes back to the very scene where Pound left for Vorticism, condescendingly allowing Lowell and her supporters to use the name “Imagism” for three years. There, it tries to illuminate how Lowell, making the most of the opportunity given to her, picked up what Pound had left behind, grafted it on the soil of America, and finally fulfilled her literary passion to awaken the common reading public to the taste for poetry reading. For the purpose, it looks into her critical reviews in Tendencies in Modern American Poetry, and stresses her creative critical efforts to re-address Pound’s principles of “Imagisme.” In particular, given the limit of space, it focuses only on the second principle of her Imagism and examines the modernity of her concepts of “a cadence,” “suggestion,” and “the real poem beyond.” Then it reads “Patterns” in the context of Japanese poetry and Noh drama and analyzes the poetic patterns that Lowell made through a creative adaptation of Japanese aesthetics for Imagist poetics. In doing so, this paper aims to provide reasonable evidences to evaluate the modernity of Lowell’s Imagist ars poetica and to consider her a truly serious Imagist poet worthy of a place in the history of American poetic modernism.
