Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of liver transplantation (LT) and liver resection (LR) for hepatocellularcarcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) and to investigate risk factors affecting prognosis. Materials and Methods: A total of 94 HCC patients with PVTT type I (segmental PVTT) and PVTT type II (lobar PVTT) were involvedand divided into LR (n=47) and LT groups (n=47). Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were comparedbefore and after inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW). Prognostic factors for RFS and OS were explored. Results: Two treatment groups were well-balanced using IPTW. In the entire cohort, LT provided a better prognosis than LR. Among patients with PVTT type I, RFS was better with LT (p=0.039); OS was not different significantly between LT and LR(p=0.093). In subgroup analysis of PVTT type I patients with α-fetoprotein (AFP) levels >200 ng/mL, LT elicited significantly longermedian RFS (18.0 months vs. 2.1 months, p=0.022) and relatively longer median OS time (23.6 months vs. 9.8 months, p=0.065). Among patients with PVTT type II, no significant differences in RFS and OS were found between LT and LR (p=0.115 and 0.335,respectively). Multivariate analyses showed treatment allocation (LR), tumor size (>5 cm), AFP and aspartate aminotransferase(AST) levels to be risk factors of RFS and treatment allocation (LR), AFP and AST as risk factors for OS. Conclusion: LT appeared to afford a better prognosis for HCC with PVTT type I than LR, especially in patients with AFP levels>200 ng/mL.
Ketamine induces neuronal apoptosis and cognitive disorder via miR-199a-5p/HIF-1α in neonatal rats
Jia Yan,Yue Yu,Yu Sun,Rong Hu,Hong Jiang 대한독성 유전단백체 학회 2017 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.13 No.4
It reported that repeated administration of clinical doses of ketamine could induce neuronal apoptosis in the immature brain. In this study, SpragueDawley postnatal day 7 rats were treated with ketamine. As the rats grew, we found ketamine impaired the cognitive function of the rats. Ketamine increased HIF1α level in the brain tissues of rats as compared to the control group and YC-1 rescued those effects. The escape latency and the platform crossing time of Morris water maze decreased in the YC-1-treated rats compared to the control in ketamine-treated rats. We also found that ketamine decreased the expression of miR199a-5p and HIF-1α is a directly target of miR-199a5p. Administration of ketamine also decrease the cell activity while YC-1 and MiR-199a-5p mimics rescued the inhibition effect. In conclusion, we suggest that ketamine-induced neuronal apoptosis in neonatal rats, followed by learning and memory impairment, might be mediated via the miR-199a-5p/HIF-1α signalling pathway.

Purpose: To investigate the diet of patients with cervical cancer and precancerosis in the Wufeng area, a high-incidence region in China. Methods: In the case group, 104 patients diagnosed with cervical cancer or cervical intraepithelial neoplasias (CINII/III) were recruited from the Wufeng area. Nine hundred thirty-six healthy women were selected from the same area as the matched controls. A questionnaire, which included questions about general lifestyle conditions, smoking and alcohol status, source of drinking water, green tea intake, and diet in the past year, was presented to all participants. Results: Green tea intake (P=0.022, OR=0.551, 95% CI=0.330-0.919) and vegetable intake (P=0.035, OR=0.896, 95% CI=0.809-0.993) were identified as protective factors against cervical cancer or CINII/III. There was no indication of any associations of other lifestyle factors (smoking status, alcohol status, source of drinking water) or diet (intake of fruit, meat/egg/milk, soybean food, onion/garlic, staple food and pickled food) with cervical cancer. Conclusions: The results suggest that eating more fresh vegetables and drinking more green tea may help to reduce the risk of cervical cancer or CINII/III in people of the Wufeng area.

Microbial electrolysis cell is a device which can produce hydrogen gas from biomass through microbial catalyzed process and thus reduce the organic matter. For the real application in wastewater treatment, the scale-up of microbial electrolysis cell is an important issue but few tests were conducted with relatively large size. In this study, a 3.7 L microbial electrolysis cell (liquid volume 3.2 L) equipped with a membrane electrode assembly cathode was designed and tested. The internal resistance was examined, hydrogen generation and organic removal performance was investigated under different conditions. A maximum overall hydrogen efficiency of 41% was achieved at an applied voltage of 1.2 V with acetate as substrate, corresponding to a volumetric hydrogen production rate of approximately 0.12 m3 H2/m3reactor liquid volume/day. The results obtained in this study could help to further develop pilot-MEC for practical applications.
Investigations on the Influence of Pedestrians on the Buffeting of a Long-Span Suspension Footbridge
Yu Li,Jia-Xin Xiao,Chen Li,Jia-Wu Li 한국강구조학회 2023 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.23 No.3
According to a suspension footbridge, the pedestrian-bridge section models with different pedestrian densities (μ) were proposed. The wind tunnel tests were performed to study the influence of pedestrians on aerostatic force coefficients and flutter derivatives, and it is found that: with the increase of μ, the drag force coefficient increases, and the lift force coefficient decreases, while the effect of μ on the pitching moment coefficient can be ignored; moreover, there is a significant influence of μ on the flutter derivatives. Then, the static wind forces, buffeting forces, and self-excited forces considering the influence of pedestrians were calculated by using the measured aerostatic force coefficients, the measured flutter derivatives, and the simulated fluctuating wind field. By applying these forces to the finite element model of the suspension footbridge, a buffeting analysis was conducted by using the ANSYS Parametric Design Language, and it is found that: with the increase of pedestrians on the long-span suspension footbridge, the buffeting increases, while the effect of wind attack angles (θ) on the buffeting decreases; Especially, when μ > 1.0 P/m2, the effect of θ on the buffeting can be ignored.

In meiosis, Emi2 plays important role as CSF (Cytostatic Factor) to make the oocyte arrested in mII stage by the inhibition of APC/C (anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome). Once the oocyte fertilized, Emi2 was destabilized and degraded. For the degradation of Emi2, calcium signaling activate calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMK) and phosphorylate emi2. Phosphorylated emi2 is recognized by polo-box domain of polo-like kinase 1 (Plk1) and further degradated by ubiquitin-dependent proteolysis. But recognition of Plk1 and emi2 is unknown. In this works, we determined the high-resolution crystal structure of polo-box domain of Plk1 and phosphorylated emi2 peptide at 1.90Å. Determined structure revealed that several unique features, including binding of Phe169 in the tyrosin-rich hydrophobic pocket. This is the first report of crystallization that Plk1-emi2 complex. Based on the complex structure, we designed the peptide analogs which pontentially inhibits recognition of Emi2 by Plk1 and assessed its biological activity in oocyte maturation and pathernogenetic activation. Injection of AB103-8, the inhibitor of Plk1 Polo-box domain, in mouse oocytes, induced the maturation arrest in GV stage and the delay in mII parthenogenetic activation. Further investigations of the mechanism that Plk1 involved into the Emi2 mII arrest are underway.
Analysis of Cow Hide Glue Binder in Traditional Dancheong by Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay
Jia Yu,Yong Jae Chung 한국문화재보존과학회 2019 보존과학회지 Vol.35 No.4
Animal glue has been used as a binder in Dancheong since the Joseon dynasty. Binders play an important role in determining the physical characteristics of a painting layer. The analysis of binders can be used to identify the materials and techniques used in traditional Dancheong. Binders can be investigated using physicochemical component analyses methods such as gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry, pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, but the detection characteristics vary depending on the degradation properties of the pigment and binder. Therefore, cross-validation using a combination of physicochemical analysis and enzyme immunoassay is used to increase the reliability of the results. In this study, we present an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) as an example of an enzyme immunoassay as a method for analyzing animal glue, a traditional binder used in Korea. The applicability of ELISA was tested using commercial animal glue, in addition to animal glue produced using a variety of extraction conditions. The animal glue was analyzed in a Noerok-additionally coated-replica sample to evaluate the possibility of analyzing the animal glue in a paint layer mixed with pigment. Based on the results, we performed an assay on the use of animal glue in the Dancheong sample of the temples of the Joseon dynasty, that are estimated to have been built in the 17th century.
