As the autonomous driving section gets longer, the lowered driver's vigilance decreases situation awareness and increases the accident rate upon taking over [1]. In a previous study, the positive notification could improve situation awareness and driving performance on take-over in autonomous driving. This study focuses on sounds of secure areas for autonomous driving. The experimental design consists of three conditions (machine, instrument, music) according to musical attributes and examined the effect of situation awareness when taking over and usability. Music has a similar impact with machine sound on situation awareness and usefulness. But the instrument sound with chords showed the lowest result. Also, participants evaluated music as the least unpleasant and the least untrustworthy. This study could contribute to the auditory UX of autonomous vehicles.

Vol.2020 No.2

Acinetobacter baumannii causes multidrug resistance, leading to fatal infections in humans. In this study, we showed that Lys AB2 P3-His–a hexahistidine-tagged form of an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) loaded onto DNA aptamer-functionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNP-Apt)–can effectively inhibit A. baumannii infection in mice. When A. baumannii-infected mice were intraperitoneally injected with AuNP-Apt loaded with Lys AB2 P3-His, a marked reduction in A. baumannii colonization was observed in the mouse organs, leading to prominently increased survival time and rate of the mice compared to those of the control mice treated with AuNP-Apt or Lys AB2 P3-His only. This study shows that AMPs loaded onto AuNP-Apt could be an effective therapeutic tool against infections caused by multidrug-resistant pathogenic bacteria in humans.
Rediscovery of antimicrobial peptides as therapeutic agents
Minkyung Ryu,Jaeyeong Park,Ji-Hyun Yeom,주민주,Kangseok Lee 한국미생물학회 2021 The journal of microbiology Vol.59 No.2
In recent years, the occurrence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens is increasing rapidly. There is growing concern as the development of antibiotics is slower than the increase in the resistance of pathogenic bacteria. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are promising alternatives to antibiotics. Despite their name, which implies their antimicrobial activity, AMPs have recently been rediscovered as compounds having antifungal, antiviral, anticancer, antioxidant, and insecticidal effects. Moreover, many AMPs are relatively safe from toxic side effects and the generation of resistant microorganisms due to their target specificity and complexity of the mechanisms underlying their action. In this review, we summarize the history, classification, and mechanisms of action of AMPs, and provide descriptions of AMPs undergoing clinical trials. We also discuss the obstacles associated with the development of AMPs as therapeutic agents and recent strategies formulated to circumvent these obstacles.

Animals use camouflage abilities to escape from predators as a survival tactic, likewise, it is critical for people to use effective camouflage strategies in combat situations. Advances in technology have increased demand for adaptive camouflage of military uniforms making it paramount to find the optimal adaptive camouflage pattern for various environments. Previous studies examined effectiveness of color-combinations for camouflage patterns according to various environmental contexts. In this study, researchers aim to identify the optimal camouflage patterns and the exclusion of properties of the colors. Camouflage pattern combination strategies used in this experiment were generated by manipulating the size (small vs. medium vs. large) and contrast (high vs. middle vs. low). We performed the visual search tasks using photo-simulation to evaluate the effectiveness of camouflage strategies. Each stimulus of pattern strategy was presented in three environmental contexts (Woodland vs. Rural vs. Urban) and performance (error rate) was measured. As a result, the pattern composed of middle level of contrast and medium size appeared to be more effective than the others in the Urban context. In the Woodland context, low contrast and small size of patterns were superior to the others. In Rural conditions, strategies with middle contrast and large size were better than the other strategies. This study aims to lay the foundation for optimal adaptive camouflage patterns in different environmental contexts and provide a theoretical basis for future military uniforms.

<P>This study analyzes the effect of heating during deposition on the electrical and material properties of zinc tin oxide (ZTO) thin film transistors (TFTs). Instead of post-deposition annealing (PDA) at more than 300°C, the ZTO-TFTs were fabricated by heating the substrate to 150∼200°C with 0∼20% of oxygen in chamber and low temperature PDA in air atmosphere. As a result, it was possible to fabricate devices that show similar electrical characteristics with mobilities of 5.8–27.1 cm2 V−1 s−1, Ion/Ioff of 108, and subthreshold swing of 0.15∼1.7 V dec−1, while lowering the process temperature by more than 100°C. We also proceeded to fabricate a device on polymer substrate, which is the ultimate goal of lowering the process temperature. ZTO-TFTs possessing transparency and flexibility were successfully fabricated on 125 μm polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) substrates. They showed electrical properties with a mobility of 1.7 cm2 V−1 s−1, Ion/Ioff of 108, and subthreshold swing of 0.39 V dec−1.</P>
