Diversity and species distribution of lichens in Gwangneung Forest

Gwangneung Forest is a forest area that has been in existence for more than 550 years with a long historyof natural and artificial forests in harmony. Lichens are not only a single organism but also a group ofbasic organisms formed from a stable symbiotic association between a fungus and algae and/or cya nobacteria. They are closely associated with forests and have formed an axis through GwangneungForest. From 2016 to 2021, a survey was conducted to investigate the lichen flora distribution by species,focusing on the viewing area within the Korea National Arboretum and the undisclosed research areacentered in the Suribong Peak area. As a result of collecting and identifying 246 specimens, 68 species oflichens were identified in 11 orders, 22 families, and 39 genera. The tree with the largest number oflichens was Koelreuteria paniculata, followed by Sophora japonica, Ginkgo biloba, and Malus sieboldii. Intrees belonging to Aceraceae, crustose lichens rather than foliose lichens were mainly found. Through thissurvey, three unreported species were discovered: Lepraria cupressicola, Leprocaulon nicholsiae, andGraphis pinicola. Lepraria cupressicola and Leprocaulon nicholsiae were distributed throughout the arbo retum viewing area and Graphis pinicola was identified only in one viewing area.
BDNF 유전자 이입 슈반세포와 PGA 도관을 이용한 백서 좌골신경 재생에 관한 연구

Purpose : The essential triad for nerve regeneration is nerve conduit, supporting cell and neurotrophic factor. In order to improve the peripheral nerve regeneration, we used polyglycolic acid(PGA) tube and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) gene transfected Schwann cells in sciatic nerve defects of SD rat. Materials and methods : Nerve conduits were made with PGA sheet and outer surface was coated with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) for mechanical strength and control the resorption rate. The diameter of conduit was 1.8㎜ and the length was 17㎜. Schwann cells were harvested from dorsal root ganglion(DRG) of SD rat aged 1 day. Schwann cells were cultured on the PGA sheet to test the biocompatibility adhesion of Schwann cell. Human BDNF gene was obtained from cDNA library and amplified using PCR. BDNF gene was inserted into E1 deleted region of adenovirus shuttle vector, pAACCMVpARS. BDNF-adenovirus was multiplied in 293 cells and purified. The BDNF-Adenovirus was then infected to the cultured Schwann cells. Left sciatic nerve of SD rat (250g weighing) was exposed and 14㎜ defects were made. After bridging the defect with PGA conduit, culture medium(MEM), Schwann cells or BDNFAdenovirus infected Schwann cells were injected into the lumen of conduit, respectively. 12 weeks after operation, gait analysis for sciatic function index, electrophysiology and histomorphometry was performed. Results : Cultured Schwann cells were well adhered to PGA sheet. Sciatic index of BDNF transfected group was -53.66±13.43 which was the best among three groups. The threshold of compound action potential was between 800 to 1000μA in experimental groups which is about 10 times higher than normal sciatic nerve. Conduction velocity and peak voltage of action potential of BDNF group was the highest among experimental groups. The myelin thickness and axonal density of BDNF group was significantly greater than the other groups. Conclusion : BDNF gene transfected Schwann cells could regenerate the sciatic nerve gap(14㎜) of rat successfully.
Ecological study for refrigerator use, salt, vegetable, and fruit intakes, and gastric cancer.

<P>We used an ecological approach to determine the correlation between vegetable, fruit and salt intakes, refrigerator use, and gastric cancer mortality in Korean population. Information on fruit and vegetable intakes per capita from the National Health and Nutrition Survey, death certificate data from the National Statistical office, refrigerator per household data from Korean Statistical Information Service, and salt/sodium intake data from a cross-sectional survey were utilized. Correlation coefficients were calculated between vegetable and fruit intakes, refrigerator per household, and gastric cancer mortality and between salt and sodium intakes, and gastric cancer mortality and incidence in the four areas. With 5, 10, and 15?years lag time, refrigerator usage and fruit intake were negatively associated with gastric cancer mortality (p?<?0.01), but vegetable intake was not associated with gastric cancer mortality. When estimates of salt/sodium intake evaluated by 24-h urine collection in four areas of Korea were compared to the gastric cancer mortality and incidence in these regions, positive correlation was shown between salt/sodium intake, and gastric cancer incidence and mortality. Negative associations between refrigerator use, fruit intake, and gastric cancer mortality and positive associations between salt/sodium intake and gastric cancer mortality and incidence were suggested.</P>

천연가스 공급시설에 대한 효율적 정량적 위험성 평가를 위한 시스템 구축과 적용

천연가스 공급 시설은 가스 소비자에게 사용의 편리성과 동시에 위험성을 제공하기 때문에 매우 까다로운 위험관리 대상이다. 따라서 그 위험을 최대한 낮추면서 가스 공급을 위해서는 합리적 안전 관리 의사 결정 방법이 필요하며 정량적 위험성 평가(QRA)는 그 적합한 도구로 인식되고 있다. 하지만 수백여개에 이르는 가스 공급 시설들에 대하여 QRA 수행하는 것은 전문가 부족과 분석 시간이 오래 소요되는 문제로 인해 효과적으로 이루어지기 어렵다. 이에 본 논문에서는 가스 공급시설에 대하여 QRA를 보다 효율적으로 수행할 수 있는 시스템 체계를 제시하였다. 이 체계의 핵심적 특징은 사고점이라고 지칭한 분석점에 전문가가 사전 분석을 통해 대상 설비(들)에 대한 사고 빈도/결과 분석에 필요한 값을 얻기 위한 질의서와 내부 계산식을 만들어놓고 일반 사용자는 그 점을 지도에 위치시키고 그 내부 질의에서 요구하는 값을 입력함으로써 QRA 가 수행되는 것이다. 궁극적으로 이는 QRA 분석 절차에 있어서 분업화가 가능하다는 아이디어에 기반하여 제시된 것이며 본 논문에서는 실제적 시스템 구축과 적용을 통해 그 체계의 유효성을 확인하였다. While the natural gas supply industry has continuously been growing, its potential hazard has also risen since the natural gas facilities essentially require installations that carry highly flammable and pressurized gas close to the populated areas, posing a serious consequence of significant property damage as well as human casualties in the event of accident. Therefore Quantitative Risk Assessment (QAR) has been recognized as a appropriate method to reduce the risk as far as possible, considering the reality of unachievable zero-risk. However, it is hard to perform effective QRA on hundreds of gas facilities because of insufficient number of expert and long-term analysis. In this paper, we suggest a conceptual QRA system framework to support more efficient risk analysis in gas supply facilities. In this system, the experts make questionnaires and internal calculation formula needed in accident frequency/consequence analysis of the facility through pre-analysis on the point of analysis, called incident point, and general users locate the point on the map and input the value required by the questionnaire to obtain the risk. Ultimately, this is suggested based on the idea that the specialization is available in QRA analysis process and the validity of the system is verified through actual system construction and application.
