        The prediction of the tooth size in the mixed dentition for Korean

        이번 연구의 목적은 혼합치열기 아동에서 미맹출된 견치와 소구치의 크기를 예측하는데 있어서 한국인에 맞는 방정식을 만들기 위함이다. 미맹출 치아의 크기를 예측하는 것은 혼합치열기 교정 진단과 치료계획 수립에 있어서 매우 중요하다. 미맹출된 견치와 소구치 크기를 예측하는 방법은 몇가지가 있지만 그중에서도 가장 흔하게 쓰이는 것이 모이어의 예측표와 다나카와 존스턴의 방정식이 있다. 하지만 그것들은 백인을 위해서 제작된 것이고 치아 크기는 인종에 따라서 다르다고 알려져 있다. 이번 연구에서는 치아크기를 측정하여 하악 영구 절치의 크기 합과 견치 및 소구치의 크기 합 사이의 상관관계를 구하고 회귀방정식을 이용해서 한국인에 맞는 예측표를 만들었다. 연세대학교 치과대학에 재학중인 178명의 한국 학생(남 108명, 여 70명, 평균연령 21.63)을 대상으로 실험하였다. 영구치의 근원심 폭경을 석고모형상에서 calipers를 이용해서 측정하였다. 성별간의 치아 크기는 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). Correlation coefficient는 0.57에서 0.64의 범위였고, standard errors of the estimates 는 여성에서 0.6으로써 남성보다 우수하였다. r^(2)값은 0.27에서 0.41의 범위를 나타내었다. Estimating the size of unerupted teeth is an essential aspect of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning in the mixed dentition. Several methods were introduced and used for the prediction. The most common methods among these would be Moyers probability chart and Tanaka and Johnston equations. These are currently used widely, but they were developed for Caucasians. Because there are clear racial differences in teeth size, the objectives of this study were to produce correlation coefficients between the combined mesiodistal widths of the permanent mandibular incisors and those of the canines and premolars for each quadrant, and prediction tables with regression equations, specifically for Korean. 178 young adults (70 women, 108 men, mean age 21.63 years) were selected from the College of Dentistry, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. The mesiodistal crown diameters of the permanent teeth were measured with calipers. Significant sexual dimorphism was found in tooth sizes. The correlation coefficients between the total mesiodistal width of the mandibular permanent incisors and those of the maxillary and mandibular canines and premolars were found to be between 0.52 and 0.64. The standard error of the estimatation was better (0.60) for women and the r^(2) values ranged from 0.27 to 0.41 for both sexes, Prediction tables were prepared for Korean. This study showed larger canine and premolar diameters than Tanaka and Johnston's and Moyers' studies which might be due to the racial differences. Further investigations with a larger sample size will be needed for more representative data on the Korean population.

        An Experimental Study on Interrelation of Influential Parameters on Unbonded Tendon Stress

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the relations between unbonded tendon stress and its influential parameters, i.e. bonded reinforcement ratio, span/depth ratio, and loading type. To this end, the influence of such parameters was examined with twenty eight test results of previous studies. Afterwards, an experimental study was carried out with twenty one test specimens. The investigation of previous and current experiments revealed the followings; (1) The bonded reinforcement ratio and prestressing ratio were proved to be important variables on the unbonded tendon stress. (2) The ratio of span to depth and the type of loading affected the unbonded tendon stress partially although their effects varied with bonded reinforcement ratio. (3) AASHTO LRFD Code and Moon/Lim's design equations predicted the experimental results well with the safety margin.

      • Effects of Stressed and Unstressed Reinforcements on Prestressed Concrete Members with Unbonded Tendons

        The research purpose of this paper is to investigate the influential Parameters on the unbonded tendon stress. The parameters were the reinforcing ratio, the prestressing ratio, and the loading type. To this end. first, the influence of parameters were examined with twenty eight test results obtained from references. Then, an experimental study was carried out with nine specimens. Test variables were the reinforcing ratio and the prestressing ratio. Specimens were divided equally into three groups and each group had a different level of the reinforcing ratio. Each specimen within a group has a different level of the prestressing ratio. The investigation with previous and current tests revealed the followings; (1) the length of crack distribution zone does not have a close relation with the length of plastic hinge. (2) the prestressing ratio does not affect both the length of crack distribution and the length of plastic hinge, (3) the tendon stress variation is in reverse relation with the ratios of mild steels and tendons, (4) the loading type nay not affect significantly the length of crack distribution zone, (5) AASHTO LRFD Code equation and Moon/Lim's design equation predicted the test results well with some safety margins.

      • Mirizzi 증후군의 변형된 분류와 치료

        Purpose : The Mirizzi syndrome is relatively rare and preoperative diagnosis of this disease is difficult. In 1978, Morelli suggested the subclassification of the Mirizzi syndrome into acute or chronic form. We experienced 5 cases of acute form. We analysed clinical features, preoperative radiologic findings and operative findings of 18 cases including acute forms which were diagnosed as Mirizzi syndrome and should suggest the modified classification of Mirizzi syndrome for choice of appropriate treatment. Method : From January 1995 to December 1998, 18 cases, of which 8 cases were diagnosed at Soonchunhyang University Chunan Hospital, and 10 cases were reported in the Korean Journal were retrospectively analysed with regard to clinical features, preoperative radiologic findings and operative findings. According to the clinical features, whole cases were divided into type Ⅰ(acute form) and type Ⅱ(chronic form) and then each type of cases were subclassified according to preoperative radiologic findings and operative findings. Results : Of 18 cases there were 5 cases in type Ⅰ(27.8%), 13 cases in type Ⅱ(72.2%). Type Ⅱb was most common. Type Ⅰa cases were treated only with cholecystectomy. We applied cholecystectomy, T-tube choledochostomy and patch technique in type Ⅰb and thpe Ⅰc cases. Cholectystectomies including removal of gallstones and internal drainage procedures were done in type Ⅱ chronic forms. Conclusion : The acute form(Type Ⅰ) of Mirizzi syndrome was suggested by Morelli might be subclassified into typeⅠa,Ⅰb and Ⅰc following the presence of the necrotic defect in common hepatic duct. Through the modified classification of Mirizzi syndrome based on clinical feature, preoperative radiologic findings and operative findings, we can choice appropriate treatment.

        Bucillamine prevents cisplatin-induced ototoxicity through induction of glutathione and antioxidant genes

        <P>Bucillamine is used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. This study investigated the protective effects of bucillamine against cisplatin-induced damage in auditory cells, the organ of Corti from postnatal rats (P2) and adult Balb/C mice. Cisplatin increases the catalytic activity of caspase-3 and caspase-8 proteases and the production of free radicals, which were significantly suppressed by pretreatment with bucillamine. Bucillamine induces the intranuclear translocation of Nrf2 and thereby increases the expression of γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase (γ-GCS) and glutathione synthetase (GSS), which further induces intracellular antioxidant glutathione (GSH), heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) and superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2). However, knockdown studies of HO-1 and SOD2 suggest that the protective effect of bucillamine against cisplatin is independent of the enzymatic activity of HO-1 and SOD. Furthermore, pretreatment with bucillamine protects sensory hair cells on organ of Corti explants from cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity concomitantly with inhibition of caspase-3 activation. The auditory-brainstem-evoked response of cisplatin-injected mice shows marked increases in hearing threshold shifts, which was markedly suppressed by pretreatment with bucillamine <I>in vivo</I>. Taken together, bucillamine protects sensory hair cells from cisplatin through a scavenging effect on itself, as well as the induction of intracellular GSH.</P>

        Geography Information System is devided to many details fields Urban Information System, Mlitary Information System etc. Theses detailed fields are connected each other an National Geography Information System. Now Geography Information System is being used in many fields with Urban Information System information of all field is being constructed to network. The purpose of this study is to use digital map for Land Information System. These applicable digital maps have a merit to anlize the regionality when one selected a data structure appropriate to a features of an objective region. GIS software which solve these problems of data structure being developed. The suitability of land use that are devided into urban areas(residential, commercial and industrial) and green areas was analyzed using overlay method by constructed database using digital map. The method and process for grafting digital map on Land Information System were examined and related environmental factors and relative importance among them were investigated on the base of preceding researches.

      • 알칼리형 연료전지에서의 산소극 제조

        알칼리형 연료전지(Alkaline fuel Cell, 이하 AFC)의 산소극에 사용되는 촉매를 은 염의 화학적 환원법으로 제조하였다. 그리고 최적의 전극 제조 조건을 찾기 위해 촉매의 loading량, 전극 소결 온도, PTFE함량 및 촉매 입자 크기 등이 전극의 분극특성에 미치는 영향들이 조사되었다. 연구결과에 의하면, 최적 조건은 전극 소결 온도 350℃, PTFE 함량 9wt%, 촉매의 입자크기 68㎛ 이하이었다. 한편 촉매 loading량이 증가함에 따라 전극 성능이 향상되었다. 최적의 제조 조건에서 제작된 전극은 개회로 전위 1.11V(vs. RHE),200㎷ 분극(전극전위 0.91V vs. RHE)시 전류밀도 약 0.4A/㎠,300㎷ 분극 (전극전위 0.81V vs. RHE)시 전류밀도 1.0A/㎠의 성능을 나타내었다. Doped silver catalyst used for oxygen electrode in alkaline fuel cells was prepared by reduction method of silver salt. And the effects of the silver catalyst loading, electrode sintering temperature, content of PTFE and particle size of the catalyst on the polarization characteristics of the oxygen electrodes were investigated to find the optimum preparation conditions of the electrodes. According to the results of this work, the optimum conditions were sintering temperature of 350℃, PTFE content of 9 wt% and below catalyst particle size of 68 ㎛. On the other hand, with increasing the catalyst loading, the electrode performance was improved. The electrode prepared at the optimum conditions showed open circuit potential of 1.11V(vs.RHE), current density of 0.4A/㎠ at a overpotential of 200㎷ and 1.0A/㎠ at a overpotential of 300㎷.

        Angiotensin Ⅱ로 유도된 혈관신생에 대한 日川芎의 억제효과

        Objective : To estimate the angiogenic effect of water extract of Cnidii Rhizoma (ECR), we employed the rat sponge model for angiogenesis. Methods : It was based on subcutaneous implantation of sterile polyester sponges in the SD rat and we have characterized the dye method that incorporates 5% carmine red and 1% cresyl violet in 10% gelatin. vascularity index (V.I.) expressed as ㎍ dye/mg tissue. Subcutaneous implantation of sterile polyester sponges in SD rats enhanced the neovascularization over 14 days, as determined by measurements of relative sponge blood flow by a vascularity technique. The angiogenic response was verified by histological evaluation of vascularized sponges. Results : Daily oral administration of ECR (100 mg/kg for 14 days) produce no apparent effect on angiogenesis. The vasoconstrictor peptide, angiotensin Ⅱ (AⅡ), in daily doses of 100 nmol, caused an intense neovascularization but lower doses of AⅡ produced no apparent effect (1 nmol and 10 nmol). Co-administration of 100 nmol AⅡ and 100 mg/kg ECR p.o. depressed 100 nmol AⅡ-induced angiogenic effect. Conclusion : We have shown that p.o. daministration of 100 nmol AⅡ accelerated angiogenesis. Meanwhile, co-administration of 100 nmol AⅡ and 100 mg/kg ECR highly suppressed angiogenic property.

        The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze experimentally and positively engineering properties of recycled concrete using high quality recycled fine aggregate according to w/c ratio and unit water contents. And it is intend to present fundamental data for the mix design and the improvement of quality. The results are as follows; According to the increase of W/C ratio, the addition ratio of superplasticizer was reduced, the strength of compressive and tensile showed low and carbonation depth and chloride penetration depth showed high. And according to the increase of unit water contents, the addition ratio of superplasticizer was reduced, the strength of compressive and tensile showed low and carbonation depth and chloride penetration depth showed high.
