        본 논문에서는 유비쿼터스 환경의 임베디드 기기들을 위한 가상 기계인 임베디드 가상기계 (EVM)를 설계하고 구현 하였다. 임베디드 가상기계는 각 개발 언어로 작성된 프로그램과 의미적으로 동등한 중간 코드를 입력으로 받아 소프트왜어 레벨로 프로그램들을 실행 시켜 주는 프로그램으로, 하드웨어의 역할을 소프트왜어로 구현한 일종의 가상 기계이다. 소프트웨어로 구현 된 임베디드 가상기계는 운영체제나 임베디드 기기 등에 탑재 시 하드웨어의 구애를 받지 않고 어플리케이션의 실행이 가능하므로 플랫폼에 독립적인 장점을 가진다. 또한 임베디드 가상 기계는 순차적 언어와 객체 지향 언어를 수용하는 중간 코드를 입력으로 사용함으로써 각 언어에 대해 의존적으로 수행되는 MS사의 .NET과 Sun사의 JVM과는 달리 C/C++/Java 언어에 독립적인 실행이 가능하다.

      • [P521] De novo psoriasiform skin eruption secondary to TNF-alpha inhibitors in patients with ankylosing spondylitis

        Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) inhibitors are widely used for treatment of various autoimmune diseases including ankylosing spondylitis (AS). The efficacy of TNF-α inhibitors for psoriasis has been established as well. However, paradoxical induction of psoriasiform eruption induced by TNF-α inhibitors has been also reported. A 61-year-old woman presented with erythematous scaly plaques on her scalp and extremities. Prior to the skin eruption, infliximab had been administered for AS for 30 months. Histopathologic examination revealed psoriasiform dermatitis. The skin lesion was improved after cessation of infliximab, however, exacerbated after re-administration of infliximab. A 34-year-old man presented with diffuse, erythematous scaly patches with pustules on both palms and soles. Eighty months prior to the skin eruption, adalimumab had been administered for AS. Histopathologic examination was consistent with pustular psoriasis. After cessation of adalimumab, the skin lesions have been in remission. De novo psoriasiform skin eruption is a rare complication of TNF-α inhibitor therapy. There is mounting evidence that a key innate immune pathway for triggering autoimmune disease, including psoriasis, involves plasmacytoid dendritic cell precursors and IFN-α production. The finding of increased production of IFN-α in TNF-α inhibitor- induced psoriasis could be possible pathophysiologic explanation for this phenomenon.

      • Treatment of molluscum contagiosum with evening primrose oil: a clinical approach in 41 children

        Background: Molluscum contagiosum (MC) is a common cutaneous viral infection by a poxvirus, which is frequent in children. Although MC has been known to resolve spontaneously, many children and their parents desire to remove them because of concerns about spreading to other body parts or other children, and even esthetic purposes. Objectives: To evaluate the effecacy of topical evening primrose oil (EPO; linoleic acid 70%, gamma linoleic acid 10%, oleic acid 5%, et cetera) therapy for children with MC. Methods: We performed a prospective, single-armed, open-label clinical trial from February, 2014 to April, 2016. Forty-one children with MC were instructed to apply EPO topically to all MC lesions twice daily for 3 months. Therapeutic response was assessed by investigators per every 1 month. Results: We found complete resolution in 29.3% (12/41), partial response in 24.4% (10/41), no change in 41.5% (17/41) and spreading in 4.9% (2/41) of patients for 3 months. Among 12 patients with complete resolution, 58.3% (7/12) achieved clearance of whole MC lesions in 1 month, 16.7% (2/12) in 2 months, and 25.0% (3/12) in 3 months. Conclusion: Topical EPO may be considered as a noninvasive treatment option for MC in children.

      • The efficacy of an anti-inflammatory acidic moisturizer for patients with mild and moderate atopic dermatitis

        Background: The normally acidic pH of stratum corneum (SC) regulates several key protective functions of the skin, including permeability barrier homeostasis and SC integrity and cohesion. Increased pH has been demonstrated in SC of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), and it was associated impaired barrier function in AD. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of a moisturizer containing gluconolactone (10%) and glycyrrhetinic acid (2%) in mild-to-moderate AD. Methods: Fifty patients (mean age: 20.5 years, female 58%) with mild-to moderate AD were enrolled in this study. Patients were treated with the moisturizer containing gluconolactone (10%) and glycyrrhetinic acid (2%) twice daily as monotherapy for 4 weeks. Outcome measures included EASI score, investigator global assessment, subject satisfaction, as well as the objective skin evaluation including TEWL, SC pH, and skin hydration. Results: After 4 weeks of therapy, 88% (44/50) of patients completed the clinical trial. There were statistically significant differences between baseline and 4 weeks after applying the moisturizer in terms of EASI score, TEWL, SC pH, and skin hydration (p < .05). Conclusion: The moisturizer containing gluconolactone (10%) and glycyrrhetinic acid (2%) was effective in ameliorating AD severity, and shown to recover acidic SC pH, TEWL, and skin hydration.

      • [FCT 17] The efficacy of a gain-switched 311-nm Ti:Sapphire laser in the treatment of vitiligo

        Vitiligo is a common acquired depigmentation disorder of the skin that has major impacts on a patient`s quality of life. Laser treatment has an advantage in treating vitiligo in a targeted manner, and is a reasonable treatment option for localized vitiligo. The 308-nm excimer laser (EL) is widely used; however, it has high maintenance costs because it uses a gas as the lasing medium. Recently, a gain-switched 311-nm Ti:Sapphire laser (TSL) using solid medium was developed based on the peak spectrum of narrow-band ultraviolet B. Fourteen patients with non-segmental vitiligo were treated twice a week using a gain-switched 311-nm TSL. Eleven patients (78.6%) showed excellent to complete repigmentation after medians of 21 (range 13-39) treatments and 3.7 (range 1.8-6.1) months (no repigmentation, 0%; mild, 1-24%; moderate, 25-49%; good, 50-74%; excellent, 75-99%; complete, 100%). The remaining three patients had good (n = 2) or moderate (n = 1) repigmentation. No serious side effects stopped the treatments. The 311-nm TSL has definite advantages. It does not require the periodic gas charging that is crucial for EL maintenance. Moreover, the 311-nm wavelength of TSL can penetrate deeper than the 308-nm wavelength of EL. In this regard, the gain-switched 311-nm TSL is a promising option for treating vitiligo.

      • Tinea incognito with pustular psoriasis-iike presentation

        A 55-year-old female presented with widespread erythematous plaques with pustules on the whole body. According to her history, she had pruritic, multiple, erythematous eruptions of the whole body of 2-month duration and was treated with topical steroids and tacrolimus in other local clinic. Potassium hydroxide preparation revealed dermatophytic hyphae and the histopathologic examination also revealed multiple hyphae and spores on the stratum corneum. The fungus was identified as Trichoderma specise by fungus culture. She was diagnosed with tinea incognito. A significant improvement was observed after 2 weeks of topical antifungal agents and oral itraconazole 200mg/day. Tinea incognito is a dermatophytosis with atypical clinical presentation due to improper use of topical corticosteroids. Our case was characterized by pustular inflammatory skin lesions that could be mistaken for pustular psoriasis. Applying topical steroids masked the classical appearance of tinea and might accelerate the spread of dermatophytic infection. Tinea infection should be considered as a differential diagnosis of pustular dermatoses that are unresponseive to conventional treatment.

        The program of missing children has become a social concern in Korea. Newspapers have reported frequently the problem of missing children. Parents of the missing children themselves organized group trying to find their missing children by visiting nation's child caring institutions. The government has thus worked out a basic plan to encounter this problem, and committed Korea children's Foundation to do the child finding program as of May 1, 1986. Thus the child finding efforts of this society came to have an official channel into Korea Children's Foundation Center for the Missing Children. For the past three years from May 1, 1986 up to April 30, 1989, a total of 43,624 children's cards has sent from child welfare institutions in the nation. 2,938 parents or relatives of the missing children came to this center to look for their missing children through reviewing the cards. 1,170 people came to this center to report missing of their children. As of April 30, 1989, 727 missing children have been reunited with their parents. In this center we are keeping children's cards sent from child welfare institutions in 15 cities and provinces. Those cards are grouped by project and by year. Computer is well utilized for the child finding process. All names of the missing children are input into the computer, and it got easy for us to identify the missing children. Children who are on the list to be adopted overseas must be checked by this center which is aimed at prohibiting the adoption of the missing a certificate of confirming public relations work for child child finding process is very much important. We utilize television, radio, newspaper, magazine, posters, cigarette packs, soft drink packs for our public relations work. As to the reason for occurrence of the missing children, we found children are missing because of their parents' carelessness, children's mental weekend, parents abandoning their children, children of divorced parents, etc. For the preventation measures, we urge the parents to be careful to their children when outgoing, or to put name card on their children's breast with address and telephone numbers. When missing children occur, all the community people should take immedicate measures to help the parents find their missing children effectively. Social education is also needed to let the people know the importance of preventing children from missing. When the missing children can not be returned to their families, they should be cared at the institutions for their lives. Prompt report should be made to police box or to temporary child protection center when their children become missing. The number of the missing children is on the decrease due to joint efforts of all people concerned, but there are still many missing children. Cooperative efforts by government, voluntary agencies, and general public are highly needed. The function of this center is very much important.

        Crystal Structure and Functional Characterization of a Xylose Isomerase (PbXI) from the Psychrophilic Soil Microorganism, Paenibacillus sp.

        Xylose isomerase (XI; E.C. 5.3.1.5) catalyzes the isomerization of xylose to xylulose, which can be used to produce bioethanol through fermentation. Therefore, XI has recently gained attention as a key catalyst in the bioenergy industry. Here, we identified, purified, and characterized a XI (PbXI) from the psychrophilic soil microorganism, Paenibacillus sp. R4. Surprisingly, activity assay results showed that PbXI is not a cold-active enzyme, but displays optimal activity at 60°C. We solved the crystal structure of PbXI at 1.94-A resolution to investigate the origin of its thermostability. The PbXI structure shows a (β/α)8-barrel fold with tight tetrameric interactions and it has three divalent metal ions (CaI, CaII, and CaIII). Two metal ions (CaI and CaII) located in the active site are known to be involved in the enzymatic reaction. The third metal ion (CaIII), located near the β4-α6 loop region, was newly identified and is thought to be important for the stability of PbXI. Compared with previously determined thermostable and mesophilic XI structures, the β1-α2 loop structures near the substrate binding pocket of PbXI were remarkably different. Site-directed mutagenesis studies suggested that the flexible β1-α2 loop region is essential for PbXI activity. Our findings provide valuable insights that can be applied in protein engineering to generate lowtemperature purpose-specific XI enzymes.
