      • 과학 포트폴리오 체제의 적용이 초등학생의 사회심리학적 교실 환경에 미치는 효과

        The purpose of the research is to investigate the effects of a portfolio system on students' socio-psychological classroom environments in elementary science class. Two schools were selected from a metropolitan area, a city, and one school from a rural area in central Korea. Two fifth-grade classes were sampled from each school selected, and one class is assigned to experimental group and the other to control group, respectively. The total number of participants of the study is 399. Portfolio system was administered to experimental group, and conventional teaching to control group for two and half month. WIHIC, an inventory to measure socio-psychological classroom environment, was administered as a pre-and post-test. Experimental group gained statistically higher scores on WIHIC after administering portfolio system. They showed more positive perceptions on sub-areas of WIHIC such as teacher support, task orientation, and equity. There is interaction between region and group: the effects of the portfolio system is highest in rural area, lowest in metropolitan area, and the city in between. Portfolio system have positive effects on students' socio-psychological classroom environments. Enhanced socio-psychological classroom environments is expected to contribute to positive self-concept, higher science achievements, and self-directed learning.

      • 固休內의 荷電粒子飛跡과 그 應用에 관한 硏究

        Charged particles create their tracks in most dielectric solids. These tracks can be viewed under optical microscope after profer chemical etching. Some of track formation methanisms are discussed and ion explosion spike theory is the most satisfactory, especially for inorganic detectors. And geometry of track etching is also discussed. We are using the cellulose (LR115-Type2 and CA80-15 of KODAK), CR-39, obsidian, and muscovite micas for our particle track studies. We can detect alpha particle tracks using the cellulose nitrate and CR-39. These polymers are etched by NaOH solution and optimum etching conditions are searched for. The relations between track hole diameter and etching time are analogous to Paretzke's results. Increase of etched track hole diameter by decreasing the energy of alpha particles in air are observed and this result can be explained by Benton's results. These results can be used for particle identification. And alpha dosimetry is possible. Tracks of uranium fission fragments in obsidians and muscovite micas also can be viewed after etching by HF solution. Spontaneous and induced (by thermal neutrons) fission tracks in obsidian samples are used for age dating. Fission track ages of obsidian samples, OM No. 147 and HM No. 40 are 8.86×10 exp(5) y and 7.67×10 exp(5) y, respectively.

        Dielectric materials can record charged particle tracks. After the discovery of track etching method, these dielectric materials, known as Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTDs), are widely used and investigated for detection of charged particles. In this work, we studied electrochemical etching (ECE) of CR-39 plastic and antomatic spark counting method of alpha tracks in cellulose nitrate (CN), and determined neutron flux of TRIGA MARK Ⅲ Reactor of Korea advanced Energy Research Institute (KAERI). The formation of track pit and tree in ECE can be explained by ECE process model proposed by Tommasino et al., and this treeing phenomena in ECE process may be considered combined effect of applied AC field and reaction of chemical etchant. With the ECE vessel designed by Somogyi and high voltage function generator, alpha tracks in 1.64㎜ thick plate of CR-39 plastics were electrochemically etched. Etched tracks enlarged by treeing phenomena could be observed by naked eyes. By increasing the ECE time, track density and diameter increased. And linear dependence of track diameter on applied voltage was seen. The obtained optimum ECE conditions for alpha tracks in CR-39 are following; 60℃ 30% KOH etchant, 7KV 45.5 KHz applied field, 3 hrs etching time. Electric discharge may occur through track perforations. Using the thin foil of alminized mylor, it was possible to obtain the one time discharge for one track perforation. After the irradiation of alpha particles, CN detectors were chemically etched in 60℃, 10% NaOH, for 120 min. Then, alpha tracks in 12 ㎛ CN were counted automatically by designed spark counter. Our spark counter have counting area of 2.40 ㎠. Threshold and operating voltage for 12 ㎛ CN were 190 V and 300 V, respectively. The determination of neutron flux of TRIGA MARK Ⅲ Reactor was performed by NBS standard Glass, SRM 961 and SRM 964. The measured neutron flux of TRIGA MARK Ⅲ was 3.6×10 exp(11) n/㎠·sec at 1.5 ㎿ reactor power. And uranium solution-mica pari made in our laboratory was also used for neutron flux determination. The measures neutron flux was 2.97×10 exp(11) n/㎠·sec and this was somewhat lower than the measured value by standard glass. This difference may be caused by non-uniformity of uranium atoms deposited on the acryl substrate.

        Background : The cun measurement System, an essential and convenient method in locating acupoints, has been widely used in the practice of acupuncture. However, traditional cun measurement has been criticized for its lack of reliability. Objectives : The purposes of this study are to determine if one cun measured by the directional methods have a consistency with that of proportional methods and to investigate which factors are related with these differences, especially in forearm. Methods : The distance between the elbow crease and the wrist crease of forearm was compared to a reference value of one cun obtained by the directional method. In this method, one cun is one third of the distance between index finger and Small finger of a subject, measured at proximal interphalangeal joint. In addition, to investigate the factors influencing the differences between these two methods, we measured the height and body weight and calculated body mass index (BMI). Finally we analyzed the factors correlated with these lengths by linear regression test. Results : The results showed that one cun obtained by the directional methods were significantly different from one cun by the proportional methods in forearm. It was demonstrated that the length acquired with the directional method was more correlated with body weight and body mass index, while the length obtained by the proportional method was more correlated with the height.

        Food allergen sensitization in young children with typical signs and symptoms of immediate-type food allergies: a comparison between monosensitized and polysensitized children

        Purpose: The clinical interpretation of children sensitized to allergens is challenging, particularly in children with food allergies. We aimed to examine clinical differences between children with monosensitization and those with polysensitization to common food allergens and to determine risk factors for polysensitization in young children <10 years of age with immediate-type food allergies. Methods: The study included children <10 years of age with signs and symptoms indicative of immediate-type food allergies. Serum total IgE level was measured, and ImmunoCAP analysis for food allergens was performed. Results: The mean age of the study subjects was $1.6{\pm}1.6$ years (75 boys and 51 girls). Thirty-eight children (30.2%) were monosensitized and 88 children (69.8%) were polysensitized. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the development of polysensitization to common food allergens was positively associated with a parental history of allergic rhinitis (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 6.28; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.78-22.13; P=0.004), season of birth (summer/fall) (aOR, 3.10; 95% CI, 1.10-8.79; P=0.033), and exclusive breastfeeding in the first 6 months of age (aOR, 3.51; 95% CI, 1.20-10.25; P=0.022). Conclusion: We found significant clinical differences between children with monosensitization and those with polysensitization to common food allergens and identified risk factors for the development of polysensitization in young children with immediate-type food allergies. Clinicians should consider these clinical risk factors when evaluating, counseling, treating, and monitoring young children with food allergies.

        Korean Medical Therapy for Knee Pain after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

        Objectives : The aim of this study was to report the effect of Korean medical therapy on pain and dysfunction after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Methods : A 25-year-old man experienced severe pain after right ACL reconstruction surgery. He received Korean medical treatments such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and physiotherapy from July 10, 2014 to August 2, 2014. Results : After the treatments, his visual analogue scale scores generally decreased and the range of motion of the right knee improved from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. Furthermore, the Knee Infury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score increased from 99 to 142. Conclusion : The findings suggest that Korean medical treatments might be effectively used to treat pain and dysfunction after soft-tissue surgeries such as ACL reconstruction. Nevertheless, further research is warranted because of the limited sample size of this study.

        The administration of <i>Fructus Schisandrae</i> attenuates dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy in mice

        <P>In the present study, we aimed to determine whether ethanol extracts of <I>Fructus Schisandrae</I> (FS), the dried fruit of <I>Schizandra chinensis</I> Baillon, mitigates the development of dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy. Adult SPF/VAT outbred CrljOri:CD1 (ICR) mice were either treated with dexamethasone to induce muscle atrophy. Some mice were treated with various concentrations of FS or oxymetholone, a 17α-alkylated anabolic-androgenic steroid. Muscle thickness and weight, calf muscle strength, and serum creatine and creatine kinase (CK) levels were then measured. The administration of FS attenuated the decrease in calf thickness, gastrocnemius muscle thickness, muscle strength and weight, fiber diameter and serum lactate dehydrogenase levels in the gastrocnemius muscle bundles which was induced by dexamethasone in a dose-dependent manner. Treatment with FS also prevented the dexamethasone-induced increase in serum creatine and creatine kinase levels, histopathological muscle fiber microvacuolation and fibrosis, and the immunoreactivity of muscle fibers for nitrotyrosine, 4-hydroxynonenal, inducible nitric oxide synthase and myostatin. In addition, the destruction of the gastrocnemius antioxidant defense system was also inhibited by the administration of FS in a dose-dependent manner. FS downregulated the mRNA expression of atrogin-1 and muscle RING-finger protein-1 (involved in muscle protein degradation), myostatin (a potent negative regulator of muscle growth) and sirtuin 1 (a representative inhibitor of muscle regeneration), but upregulated the mRNA expression of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, Akt1, adenosine A1 receptor and transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 4, involved in muscle growth and the activation of protein synthesis. The overall effects of treatment with 500 mg/kg FS were comparable to those observed following treatment with 50 mg/kg oxymetholone. The results from the present study support the hypothesis that FS has a favorable ameliorating effect on muscle atrophy induced by dexamethasone, by exerting anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on muscle fibers, which may be due to an increase in protein synthesis and a decrease in protein degradation.</P>

        Hexane extracts of garlic cloves induce apoptosis through the generation of reactive oxygen species in Hep3B human hepatocarcinoma cells

        <P>Garlic (Allium sativum) compounds have recently received increasing attention due to their cancer chemopreventive properties, and their anticancer activities are extensively reported in many cancer cell lines. However, the anticancer activity and the signaling pathway associated with the induction of apoptosis by extracts of garlic cloves have not been elucidated. In this study, we examined the effects of hexane extracts of garlic cloves (HEGCs) on reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and the association of these effects with apoptotic cell death, using a Hep3B human hepatocarcinoma cell line in vitro. The results demonstrated that HEGCs mediate ROS production, and that this mediation is followed by a collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP, δψm), the downregulation of anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL and the activation of caspase-9 and -3. HEGCs also promoted the activation of caspase-8 and the downregulation of Bid, a BH3-only pro-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2. However, the apoptotic phenomena displayed by HEGCs were significantly diminished by the presence of z-VAD-fmk (non-selective caspase inhibitor). Moreover, N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), a widely used ROS scavenger, effectively blocked the HEGC-induced apoptotic effects via the inhibition of ROS production and MMP collapse. These observations clearly indicate that HEGC-induced ROS are key mediators of MMP collapse, which leads to the induction of apoptosis, followed by caspase activation.</P>

      • ABCB1, FCGR2A, and FCGR3A Polymorphisms in Patients with HER2-Positive Metastatic Breast Cancer Who Were Treated with First-Line Taxane plus Trastuzumab Chemotherapy

        <P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Objective:</I></B> The aim of this study was to elucidate clinical implications of ABCB1, FCGR2A, and FCGR3A polymorphisms in patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (MBC) after taxane plus trastuzumab (TH) chemotherapy. <B><I>Methods:</I></B> Using genomic DNA samples extracted from mononuclear cells of consecutive patients with HER2-positive MBC who received first-line TH, we analyzed five polymorphisms (ABCB1 1236C>T, ABCB1 2677G>T/A, ABCB1 3435C>T, FCGR2A 131H/R, and FCGR3A 158V/F) and then correlated them with the response rate, progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse events of patients. <B><I>Results:</I></B> A total of 57 women were analyzed. The median age was 46 years (range 27–72). ABCB1 2677T carriers had a longer PFS (p = 0.037) along with a tendency toward a longer OS (p = 0.057). ABCB1 3435CC genotype carriers had a shorter PFS (p = 0.039) along with a tendency toward a shorter OS (p = 0.093). In combined analysis, PFS was significantly longer in ABCB1 1236CC and/or 2677TT carriers compared to the others (p = 0.006). FCGR2A 131H/R and FCGR3A 158V/F polymorphisms were not significantly associated with response rate, PFS, and OS. <B><I>Conclusions:</I></B> Our data support that ABCB1 polymorphisms may predict PFS after first-line TH chemotherapy in patients with HER2-positive MBC. In contrast, FCGR2A 131H/R and FCGR3A 158V/F polymorphisms could not predict treatment outcomes.</P><P>Copyright © 2012 S. Karger AG, Basel</P>

        Experimental Characterization and Signal Integrity Verification of Interconnect Lines with Inter-layer Vias

        Interconnect lines with inter-layer vias are experimentally characterized by using high-frequency S-parameter measurements. Test patterns are designed and fabricated using a package process. Then they are measured using Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) up to 25 GHz. Modeling a via as a circuit, its model parameters are determined. It is shown that the circuit model has excellent agreement with the measured S-parameters. The signal integrity of the lines with inter-layer vias is evaluated by using the developed circuit model. Thereby, it is shown that via may have a substantially deteriorative effect on the signal integrity of high-speed integrated circuits.
