        2010 해남, 평창, 원주지역 갈대 등 야초류의 이용실태와 사료가치 평가

        본 연구는 부존 조사료자원 이용으로 수입사료를 줄이고 사료비를 절감하고자 2010년도에 전남 해남(간척지), 강원 평창(강변), 원주(섬강변), 전남 영광(와탄강변) 등 4개 지역에서 갈대와 억새 등 야초 자생지를 탐색하고, 수확·이용실태 조사와 함께 사료가치를 분석하였다. 전남 해남 해남목장 내 갈대(Phragmites communis) 위주의 야초 자생지는 300 ha로 예년에는 2회 곤포작업하여 연간 사일리지로 2,300~2,500톤(ha당 8톤)을 생산하였으나 2010년도는 1회 곤포조제로 사일리지 2,000톤(ha당 7톤)을 생산하였다. 유통가격은 롤 당 53천원으로 ㎏당 110원이었다. 곤포는 전량 자가소비하며, 외부 작업단에 롤 당 26천원의 작업비를 지불하였다. 연간 조수입은 2억 2,260만원이며, 소득은 1억원 수준(345천원/ha)이었다. 초장 150 ㎝의 갈대는 조단백질 8.4%, 상대사료가치 71.9 (건초 5등급), 건물 소화율 60.1%로 사료가치는 볏짚에 비해 약간 나은 것으로 평가되었다. 갈대 사일리지의 사료가치와 유기산 함량은 동일 지역에서 동일한 재료로 사일리지를 조제하더라도 수확시기에 따라 차이가 컸으며(CP 4.7~6.4%, RFV 62.2~78.9, 건물 소화율 41.9~53.9%), 갈대 사일리지의 품질은 수단그라스에 비해 불량하였다. 강원 평창 강변 자생갈대의 사료가치는 초장이 79, 117, 121, 142㎝로 생육이 진행됨에 따라 낮아져, 조단백질은 각각 13.9%에서 7.6%로, 상대사료가치는 90.7 (건초 3등급)에서 76.1 (건초 4등급)로, 건물 소화율은 72.9%에서 54.7%로 감소하였다. 원주 섬강 주변 야초류는 곤포수확 작업에 어려움이 있었으며, 초장 130 cm의 갈대는 조단백질 8.5%, 상대사료가치 82.3 (건초 4등급), 건물 소화율 70.2%로 사료가치는 높았으며, 220㎝의 성숙한 갈대는 조단백질 10.2%, 상대사료가치 65.1 (건초 5등급), 건물 소화율 48.9%로 볏짚 대비 조금 나은 것으로 평가되었다. 전남영광지역에서는 와탄천 주변에 자생하는 갈대를 수거 이용하고자 시도하였으나 경제성이 없어 중단하였다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여볼 때, 갈대, 억새 등 야초류는 현 상태에서 최대한 수거·이용하되, 사료가치를 유지하고 가축 기호성이 양호한 시기에 수확하는 것이 중요하며, 최소한 볏짚과 비슷하거나 그 이상의 사료가치를 기대하기 위해서는 7월 중순 이전(늦어도 7월까지)에 수확·이용하는 것이 권장된다. This study was carried out in 2010 to investigate the utilization and forage quality of native grasses, such as Phragmites communis which might reduce the cost of feeding domestic cattle. The regions surveyed were the Haenam ranch in Haenam, Pyeongchang, Wonju, and Yeonggwang. In Haenam, yearly silage production harvested from 300 ha was 2,000 MT (7 MT/ha). All of those round bale silages were self-consumed in that region, and marketing price was 50,000 55,000 won per roll (110 won/㎏). Phragmites communis of 150 ㎝ in length contained 8.4% crude protein (CP) with relative feed value (RFV) 71.9 and 60.1% in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), which was somewhat more favorable than forage quality of rice straw. The silage quality of Phragmites communis varied greatly by the time of harvest (CP 4.7 6.4%, RFV 62.2 78.9, and IVDMD 41.9 53.9%), even with the same district and of the same original forage materials. Generally, the quality of Phragmites communis silage of was poorer than that of sorghum * sudangrass hybrid. In Pyeongchang, forage quality of Phragmites communis was decreased from 13.9% to 7.6% in CP, 90.7 to 76.1 in RFV, and 72.9% to 54.7% in IVDMD, as plant was getting mature, from 79 ㎝ to 117 ㎝, 121 ㎝ or to 142 ㎝ in length. In Wonju, the quality values of Phragmites communis of 130 ㎝ in length were 8.5% CP, 82.3 RFV and 70.2% IVDMD, while those of matured grasses of 220 ㎝ in length were lower (10.2% CP, 65.1 RFV and 48.9% IVDMD), but this was a little more favorable than quality of rice straw. In Yeonggwang, feeding Phragmites communis was tried in a Hanwoo feed, but stopped due to low profitability. In conclusion, the overall quality of most native grasses including Phragmites communis in this survey was poor. Therefore, we recommend that Phragmites communis and native grasses should be harvested on June or July to obtain richer forage quality in forage values than rice straw.

        우리나라 노인여성의 골다공증성 척추골절로 인한 경제적 부담 추계

        Objectives : To estimate the economic burden of osteoporotic vertebral fracture (VF) from a societal perspective. Methods : From 2002 to 2004, we identified all National Health Insurance claims records for women ${\geq}50$ years old with a diagnosis of VF. The first 6-months was defined as a "clearance period," such that patients were considered as incident cases if their first claim of fracture was recorded after June 30, 2002. We only included patients with ${\geq}$ one claim of a diagnosis of, or prescription for, osteoporosis over 3 years. For each patient, we cumulated the claims amount for the first visit and for the follow-up treatments for 1 year. The hospital charge data from 4 hospitals were investigated to measure the proportion of the non-covered services. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 106 patients from the 4 study sites to measure the out-of-pocket spending outside of hospitals. Results : During 2.5 years, 131,453 VF patients were identified. The patients had an average of 3.38 visits, 0.40 admissions and 6.36 inpatient days. The per capita cost was 1,909,690 Won: 71.5% for direct medical costs, 20.6% for direct non-medical costs and 7.9% for indirect costs. The per capita cost increased with increasing age: 1,848,078 Won for those aged 50-64, 2,084,846 Won for 65-74, 2,129,530 Won for 75-84and 2,121,492 Won for those above 84. Conclusions : Exploring the economic burden of osteoporotic VF is expected to motivate to adopt effective treatment options for osteoporosis in order to prevent the incidence of fracture and the consequent costs.

        Background: Until now, it is rarely reported for hepatic hemangioma to be atypical features, a sclerosed pattern, capsular retraction, and decreased size while follow-up. This report shows a case of hemangioma with multiple lesions that had been spontaneously reduced and modifi ed. Case: In August 2004, a non-symptomatic patient was admitted with abnormal computed tomography (CT) fi ndings examed on local clinic. There were two hemangiomas on segment 2 and 5, and a largest lesion on segment 5 (31. 5 mm sized lesion), initially had typical characteristics which enhanced from peripheral to central, and heterogenous pattern at delayed phase. The laboratory analysis revealed a AST of 25 U/L, ALT of 58 U/L, total bilirubin of 0. 92 mg/dL. The patient visited 6 years later, April 2013. In that time, he did not even have had any treatment. He still had no abdominal discomfort or hepatic problems. The laboratory analysis revealed a AST 30 IU/L, ALT 22 IU/L, total bilirubin 1. 61 mg/dL, Direct bilirubin 0. 41 mg/dL. Compared with the previous CT fi ndings, there were a lot of changes. It did not have peripheral enhancement at delayed phase, just had transient enhansing lesion and the size signifi cantly decreased. It was diffi cult to distinguish normal hepatic lesion and we couldn`t calculate exact diameters.

        Design and scale-up of a Cr-free Fe-Al-Cu catalyst for hydrogen production from waste-derived synthesis gas

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Herein, we have prepared a series of Cr-free Fe-Al-Cu catalysts by the homogeneous one-step co-precipitation method and examined their ability to promote the water gas shift (WGS) reaction and thus facilitate the production of hydrogen from waste-derived synthesis gas. The prepared catalysts are confirmed to possess γ-Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, which can be more easily transformed into Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> than α-Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>. The surface area, Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> crystallite size, reducibility, and Cu dispersion of these catalysts significantly depend on the concentrations of metal precursor. The catalysts effectively promote the WGS reaction without facilitating undesirable side reactions, achieving efficient hydrogen production and high CO conversion. The characteristics of the best-performing sample are preserved when the production is scaled up by a factor of 40 and thus obtained large-scale Fe-Al-Cu catalyst exhibits excellent reducibility and high CO conversion. Both commercial Fe-Cr and large-scale Fe-Al-Cu catalysts achieve close-to-equilibrium CO conversions at a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 3000 mL g<SUP>−1</SUP> h<SUP>−1</SUP>, but the latter showed a higher conversion than the former at a GHSV of 40,057 mL g<SUP>−1</SUP> h<SUP>−1</SUP> owing to the promotional effect of Cu on the easier reducibility of Fe species and the formation of additional Cu active sites. Thus, we demonstrate the possibility of finding Cr-free alternatives and show that the reducibility, Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> crystallite size, and Cu dispersion of the best-performing catalyst could be maintained upon upscaling, which made this catalyst well suited for converting waste-derived synthesis gas into H<SUB>2</SUB>.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Fe-Al-Cu catalysts were prepared by homogenous one-step co-precipitation. </LI> <LI> Precursor concentrations were systematically varied at optimized composition. </LI> <LI> Obtained catalysts promoted the recovery of H<SUB>2</SUB> from waste-derived synthesis gas. </LI> <LI> Efficient H<SUB>2</SUB> recovery and high CO conversion were achieved. </LI> <LI> Properties of the best catalyst were preserved when production was upscaled. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Is an Anatomical Suprapectineal Quadrilateral Surface Plate Superior to Previous Fixation Methods for Anterior Column-Posterior Hemitransverse Acetabular Fractures Typical in the Elderly?: A Biomechanical Study

        Background: This study aimed to compare the mechanical characteristics of four fixation methods including an anatomical suprapectineal quadrilateral surface (QLS) plate in hemipelvic models of anterior column–posterior hemitransverse acetabular fractures typical in elderly patients. Methods: In total, 24 composite hemipelvic models were used and allocated to four groups: group 1, pre-contoured anatomical suprapectineal QLS plate; group 2, suprapectineal reconstruction plate with two periarticular long screws; group 3, suprapectineal reconstruction plate with a buttress reconstruction plate; group 4, suprapectineal reconstruction plate with a buttress T-plate. Axial structural stiffness and displacement of each column fragment in four different fixation constructs were compared. Results: Multiple group comparisons of axial structural stiffness demonstrated significant difference (p = 0.001). Although there was no significant difference between groups 1 and 2 (p = 0.699), group 1 showed greater stiffness than groups 3 and 4 (p = 0.002 and 0.002, respectively). Group 1 showed less displacement in the anterior region of the anterior fragment than group 4 (p = 0.009) and in the posterior region than groups 3 and 4 (p = 0.015 and p = 0.015, respectively). However, group 1 demonstrated greater displacement than group 2 in the posterior region of the posterior fragment (p = 0.004), while showing similar displacement to groups 3 and 4. Conclusions: The anatomical suprapectineal QLS plate provided the mechanical stability comparable or superior to other existing fixations in osteoporotic models of anterior column–posterior hemitransverse acetabular fractures typical in the elderly. However, additional plate modification would be needed for better stability and outcomes.

        Flow behavior of wakes in a three-phase slurry bubble column with viscous liquid medium

        Flow behavior of wakes has been investigated in a three-phase slurry bubble column of 0.102 m ID and 1.5 m in height. The dependence of wake characteristics such as rising velocity, frequency, holdup and equivalent size on the operating variables was examined by employing an electric resistivity probe method. The gas velocity, liquid viscosity and solid content in the slurry phase were chosen as independent parameters. The rising velocity of wake region increased with an increase in the gas velocity (4.0-12.0 cm/s), liquid viscosity (1.0-50.0 mPa·s) or solid content (0-25 wt%) in the slurry phase. The frequency and holdup of wake phase increased with increasing gas velocity, but decreased with increasing liquid viscosity or solid content in the slurry phase. The equivalent size of wake phase increased with increasing gas velocity, liquid viscosity or solid content in the slurry phase. The wake properties and holdup were well correlated with operation variables within these experimental conditions.

      • High Temperature Water-gas Shift Reaction of Waste-derived Synthesis Gas over Metal Ferrite Catalysts Integrated with Mesoporous Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>

        The present study focuses on the performance of metal ferrite catalysts integrated with mesoporous alumina for the high temperature water-gas shift reaction of waste-derived synthesis gas. Ni, Co, and Cu were employed as doped metals for the target reaction in this study. Pure magnetite integrated alumina for HT-WGS was also tested as a reference catalyst. Among the prepared catalysts, copper ferrite integrated with mesoporous alumina showed the highest CO conversion (69%) and 100% selectivity to CO<sub>2</sub> at a very high GHSV of 42,000 h<sup>-1</sup>. The improved performance of the catalyst is correlated with its easier reducibility. In addition, honeycomb-like mesopores Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> also exhibited a beneficial effect on the rapid diffusion of reactants.

      • Analysis on Thrust Characteristics of Slotless Iron-Cored PMLSM According to PM Magnetization Patterns

        The development of modern high-energy magnet materials has allowed the replacement of field coils in many different types of electromagnetic energy conversion machines. As well, the linear synchronous motor has recently been proposed for linear motion with high efficiency and thrust. Thus, this paper presents an analytical solution for the high thrust and cost reduction of the Iron-Cored Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM) considering magnetization arrays and geometry. Hence, the superior utilization points in each of the magnetization arrays are provided by the height ratio of the magnet/air-gap and magnet/winding coil, etc. In formulation, the space harmonic method in analytical solutions and the generalized 2-D tensor finite element analysis can be used to evaluate force components in magneto static devices including the magnetostrictive phenomenon.

        Schedule-dependent synergistic effects of 5-fluorouracil and selumetinib in <i>KRAS</i> or <i>BRAF</i> mutant colon cancer models

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Combination of MEK inhibitor and 5-FU had showed limited efficacy in clinical trials. We previously reported that acquired resistance to 5-FU was related with continued activation of <I>salvage</I> pathway. Here we investigated whether combination of 5-FU and a MEK inhibitor had treatment sequence-dependent synergistic effects in <I>KRAS</I> or <I>BRAF</I> mutant colon cancer models. Treatment with 5-FU followed by selumetinib (FS) induced highest cell death and synergy compared with reverse (SF) and concomitant (cFS) treatment in six cell lines. SF or cFS combination induced synergy in 1 or 2 cell lines, respectively, in which the synergy was less than that by FS combination. FS enhanced apoptosis and decreased anchorage-independent growth. Induction of thymidine kinase 1, a rate-limiting enzyme in <I>salvage</I> pathway, by 5-FU was abrogated by subsequent treatment with selumetinib, and ERK reactivation after selumetinib was prohibited by pretreatment with 5-FU. FS altered mRNA expression in groups of genes distinct from SF. Administration of 5-FU (10 or 30 mg/kg/day) for 7 days, followed by selumetinib (10 or 25 mg/kg/day) for another 7 days, in colo205 and HCT8 xenograft models significantly decreased tumor growth compared with a single agent. However, co-administration in the reverse sequence did not show the difference in tumor size compared with the treatment of single agent. Decreased expression of Ki67 was observed in tumors from mice treated with FS. Our results suggest that sequential administration of 5-FU plus selumetinib would be a promising strategy for patients having <I>KRAS</I> or <I>BRAF</I> mutant colon cancers.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
