        단클론항체를 이용한 타액 내 Streptococcus mutans 수준의 측정

        Streptococcus mutans는 구강 내에 상존하는 치아우식증의 주요 원인균으로서 치면의 피막에 부착 후 glucan을 형성하여 세균의 군락을 이루며, 외부로부터 공급된 자당대사를 통하여 유기산을 생성함으로써 법랑질을 탈회시킨다. 치아우식 활성도의 평가를 위한 단클론항체를 이용한 방법은 진료실에서 빠른 시간 내에 간편하게 타액에 존재하는 Streptococcus mutans의 정량분석이 가능한 방법이다. 이 연구는 3세에서 6세 사이의 어린이 15명을 대상으로 자극성 타액을 채취하여 시판 중인 단클론항체를 이용한 Salivacheck Mutans, strip을 이용한 Dentocult-SM 그리고 MSB배지 배양법으로서 타액 내 Streptococcus mutans를 측정한 후 그 값을 우식경험치아수와 비교하여 상관관계를 알아보았다. Saliva-check Mutans를 이용한 방법은 Dentocult-SM과 MSB배지법과 통계학적으로 유의한 상관관계를 보였으나 (p<0.05), MSB배지법은 어린이의 우식경험치아수와 통계학적으로 유의한 결과를 나타내지 않았다 (p=0.34). Streptococcus mutans, one of the major causal agents of dental caries, is component of the dental plaque. It produces various organic acids such as lactic acid which is the end-product of glycolysis, and this leads to dental caries. A new system using species-specific monoclonal antibodies was developed to detect Streptococcus mutans in saliva. The system quickly detects salivary Streptococcus mutans in 30min and classifies the result into two levels. The purpose of this study was to investigate correlation between monoclonal antibody-based detecting system and selective medium-based detecting methods. Children's deft indices were also compared with Streptococcus mutans counts in MSB agar plate. Subjects consisted of 15 children in the age of 3 to 6 years. They were assigned to three groups: Group Ⅰ (deft index = 3), Group Ⅱ (deft index ≤ 3), Group Ⅲ (deft index ≥ 4). The results are as follows : 1. The rate of children with positive response was 13.3% and with negative response was 86.7% in the result of Saliva-check Mutans test kit. 2. There was a positive correlation between monoclonal antibody-based detecting system and selective medium-based detecting methods (p<0.05). 3. Streptococcus mutans counts in MSB agar plate were irrelevant to deft of children(p=0.34).

        SECKEL 증후군 환자의 증례보고

        Seckel 증후군은 상염색체 열성 유전질환으로 태내에서의 성장지연에 따른 출생 후의 소인증, 심한 소두증을 나타내며, 큰눈과 돌출된 코, 후퇴된 하악을 동반한 새 모양의 안모가 특징적이다. 다른 임상증상으로는 관절의 결함, 내반족, 드문드문 난 모발, 비뇨생식기의 이형성, 정신지체, 혈액학적 이상 등이 나타날 수 있다. Seckel 증후군의 구강 내 소견으로는 부정교합, 법랑질 저형성증, 일부 치아의 선천적 결손, 우상치 등이 나타날 수 있다. 본 증례는 Seckel 증후군을 보이는 두 증례에서 발육부전, 새 모양의 안모, 비뇨기과적 기형, 치아의 저형성과 부정교합 등 다양한 전신증상과 구강 내 증상들을 보였기에 이를 보고하는 바이다. Seckel syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by intrauterine growth retardation and post-natally by dwarfism, severe microcephaly, bird-headed profile with receding chin, prominent nose, joint defects, clubfoot, sparse hair, malformation of genitourinary tract and rectum, mental retardation and hematological disorders. There is also a reduction in the number of blood cells. Dental anomalies of Seckel syndrome are crowded teeth with malocclusion, enamel hypoplasia, absence of some teeth and taurodontism. This report described the oral and maxillofacial manifestations of children associated with Seckel syndrome. Children with Seckel syndrome have several dental and skeletal irregularities. The purpose of this study was to report the dental and medical characteristics of the patient and review the literatures of Seckel syndrome.

        ADGO: analysis of differentially expressed gene sets using composite GO annotation

        <P><B>Motivation:</B> Genes are typically expressed in modular manners in biological processes. Recent studies reflect such features in analyzing gene expression patterns by directly scoring gene sets. Gene annotations have been used to define the gene sets, which have served to reveal specific biological themes from expression data. However, current annotations have limited analytical power, because they are classified by single categories providing only unary information for the gene sets.</P><P><B>Results:</B> Here we propose a method for discovering composite biological themes from expression data. We intersected two annotated gene sets from different categories of Gene Ontology (GO). We then scored the expression changes of all the single and intersected sets. In this way, we were able to uncover, for example, a gene set with the molecular function <I>F</I> and the cellular component <I>C</I> that showed significant expression change, while the changes in individual gene sets were not significant. We provided an exemplary analysis for HIV-1 immune response. In addition, we tested the method on 20 public datasets where we found many ‘filtered’ composite terms the number of which reached ∼34% (a strong criterion, 5% significance) of the number of significant unary terms on average. By using composite annotation, we can derive new and improved information about disease and biological processes from expression data.</P><P><B>Availability:</B> We provide a web application (ADGO: http://array.kobic.re.kr/ADGO) for the analysis of differentially expressed gene sets with composite GO annotations.       • Chemical-Looping Combustion을 위한 금속산화물 매체들의 산화 환원 반응특성

        Chemical-looping combustion has been focused as a very promising combustion technology from the viewpoint of high energy efficiency, easy separation of CO_(2) and no formation of NO_(x). The key of this combustion technology is to develop oxygen carrier mediums with high oxygen capacity, and high machanical and thermal stability. In this study, various kinds of mediums were prepared by the combination of active metal oxides, such as NiO, CoO, Fe_(2)O_(3) or NiO-Fe_(2)O_(3), with YSZ(yttria stabilized zirconia) as a binder. The redox reactions on the mediums were also carried out by using the thermogravimetric reactor. The redox reaction rates on a NiO/YSZ medium were found to be most superior in comparison with those of other mediums. In addition, durability of the medium was also found to be appropriate for UC. For the purpose of high redox reaction rates, the optimum reaction temperatures of reduction and oxidation on a NiO/YSZ medium were observed as 600℃ and l000℃, respectively.

      • Relationship between Secondary Electron Emissions and Film Thickness of Hydrogenated Amorphous Silicon

        The temporal variation of a secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$ coefficient) of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) was investigated in a dc silane plasma. Estimated ${\gamma}$ coefficients have a value of 2.73 ${\times}$ 10$^{-2}$ on the pure aluminum electrode and 1.5 ${\times}$ 10$^{-3}$ after 2 hours deposition of -Si:H thin films on a cathode. It showed an abrupt decrease for about 30 minutes before saturation. The variation of the ${\gamma}$ coefficient was estimated as a function of the thin film thickness, and the film thickness was about 80 nm after 30 minutes deposition time. These results are compared with the results of a computer simulation for ion penetration into a cathode.

        만성 B형 간염을 동반한 간경변증 환자에서 라미부딘 요법의 효과 및 안전성

        N/A Background : Lamivudine has been reported to be effective and safe in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. However, in patients with advanced liver cirrhosis (LC) who have less hepatic reserve function and so higher chances of serious complications, its outcomes remained to be clarified. We evaluated the effectiveness and safety of lamivudine in patients with LC caused by hepatitis B. Methods : Twenty four patients with HBV-associated LC who had clinical evidence of hepatic dysfunction (Child-Pugh Class A:B:C = 13:7:4) as well as 76 patients with biopsy-proven chronic hepatitis B (CH) as controls were administered with 150 mg of lamivudine orally everyday for at least more than 6 months. Serum HBeAg and HBV-DNA (liquid phase hybridization assay) as well as CBC, prothrombin time and biochemistry were tested sequentially during the follow-up period. Results : All patients in both groups became negative for HBV-DNA in their sera during the treatment. Five out of 24 LC (21%) and 33 (43%) of 76 CH patients were relapsed within the follow-up periods of median 19 and 22 months, respectively (p=0.42). HBeAg seroconversion was observed in 7 of 19 LC (37%) and 25 of 69 CH (36%) patients with positive HBeAg (p=0.52). The hemoglobin, white blood cell and platelet counts were not changed significantly in both groups during the follow-up periods. The prothrombin time, serum cholesterol and bilirubin levels were also not changed significantly during the treatment. All of 76 CH patients had not presented any fatal complication during the follow-up periods. In contrast, 3 out of 4 LC patients in Child-Pugh class C died of serious complications (1 out of 5 relapsers, 2 of 19 persistent responders, p=NS; 1 died of sepsis, 2 of variceal bleeding). Conclusion : Lamivudine therapy may be as effective in patients with LC as in those with CH in terms of the clearance of serum HBV-DNA and the seroconversion of HBeAg. Our data also suggest that the lamivudine therapy is as safe even in decompensated LC as in CH.(Korean J Med 60:131-138, 2001)

        There is growing evidence that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is associated with increased risks of psychiatric sequelae. Depression, anxiety, cognitive impairments, sleep disturbance, and fatigue during and after the acute phase of COVID-19 are prevalent, long-lasting, and exerting negative consequences on well-being and imposing a huge burden on healthcare systems and society. This current review presented timely updates of clinical research findings, particularly focusing on the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying the neuropsychiatric sequelae, and identified potential key targets for developing effective treatment strategies for long COVID. In addition, we introduced the Formosa Long COVID Multicenter Study (FOCuS), which aims to apply the inflammation theory to the pathogenesis and the psychosocial and nutrition treatments of post-COVID depression and anxiety.
