        Twisted-fin parametric study to enhance the solidification performance of phase-change material in a shell-and-tube latent heat thermal energy storage system

        Phase change material (PCM) is considered as one of the most effective thermal energy storage (TES) systems to balance energy supply and demand. A key challenge in designing efficient PCM-based TES systems lies in the enhancement of heat transmission during phase transition. This study numerically examines the privilege of employing twisted-fin arrays inside a shell-and-tube latent heat storage unit to improve the solidification performance. The presence of twisted fins contributes to the dominating role of heat conduction by their curved shapes, which restricts the role of natural convection but largely aids the overall heat-transfer process during solidification. The heat-discharge rate of twisted-fin configuration is increased by ∼14 and ∼55% compared to straight fin and no fin configurations—leading to a reduction in the solidification duration by ∼13 and ∼35%, respectively. The solidification front at various times has also been assessed through a detailed parametric study over the fin height, fin pitch number, and fin thickness. Over the range of values assumed, the fin height is the most dominant parameter – increasing the heat-retrieval rate from 10.0 to 11.4 W and decreasing the discharge time from above 3600 to 2880 s by varying the fin height from 2.5 to 7.5 mm.

        Controllable Synthesis of Co-Doped Spinel LiMn2O4 Nanotubes as Cathodes for Li-Ion Batteries

        Spinel Co-LiMn2O4 nanotubes have been synthesized via solid state reaction using α-MnO2 nanotubes as selftemplates. The as-prepared powders were investigated by XRD, TEM, and galvanostatic discharge/charge analysis. The optimal doping amount was confirmed by galvanostatic charge/discharge measurements. The results indicate that about 67% of initial capacity (115 mAh/g) of LiMn2O4 nanotubes can be retained after 50 cycles. For Co-LiMn2O4 nanotubes, the initial reversible capacity is 126.6 mAh/g and 100 mAh/g can be maintained after 50 cycles. The capacitance retention rate of Co-LiMn2O4 nanotubes is as high as 79%. These results indicate that the doping Co can effectively improve circle stability and electrochemical performance of LiMn2O4 nanotubes.

        포스터 여백에 나타나는 시각과 상징 유형에 관한 연구 : 동양 포스터를 중심으로

        본 연구는 국제그래픽연맹에 실린 1960~2017년의 동양 디자이너의 작품에서 무작위로 6명 디자이너의 8개의 작품을 선정하여 Kostelnick, C. & Roberts, D.(1998)의 시각적 언어 분류학을 적용하여 포스터의 시각적 유형을 분석하였고 또한, 롤랑 바르트의 기호학 2단계 모델을 사용하여 포스토의 상징적 유형을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 시각적 표현의 경우 동양 포스터 디자인에서 내부(Intra) 유형은 자연적 형상(본상)을 나타났다. 사이(Inter) 유형은 주체적 조형물 사이에 남겨둔 여백이고 이는 공간감을 나타냈다. 여분(Extra) 유형은 여백을 배경으로 하고 기호학에서의 휴지공간과 같다. 상징 유형의 경우 동양에서 기표(Signifier), 기의(Signified)는 ‘도(Virtue) 로 표현되고 함축의미는 디자이너의 내면과 문화 관념을 나타냈다. 둘째, 동양 포스터에서 동양 여백은 불교의 공(空) 사상, 유교의 중용(中庸) 사상, 도교의 무위(無爲) 사상을 보여주고 있다. 또한, 동양의 여백은 조형 기능 외에 감성 기능도 포함되어 있다. 그리고 작품의 사상 주제를 표현할 수 있다. 셋째, 동양 포스터의 조형 기능에서 여백은 시선을 집중시킬 수 있다. 여백은 조형과 결합하여 불완전한 효과를 만들어낸다. 또한, 화면 속 평면적인 특징으로 인해 여백과 모양을 함께 조형요소로 활용할 수 있다. This study randomly selected eight works of six designers from the works of Asian designers from 1960 to 2017 published in the International Graphic Federation and applied the visual language taxonomy of Kostelnick, C. & Roberts, D. (1998) to analyze the visual types of posters, and also used Roland Barthes s two-step model of semiotics to analyze the symbolic types of the poster. According to the study, in the case of visual expression, in Oriental poster design, the Intra type is the natural shape (main image), and the Inter type is the margin left between the self-reliant sculpture, which represents a sense of space. The extra type is the same as the waste space in semiotics with the blank set in the background. For symbol types, Signifier and Signified are expressed as Virtue in the East, and the implication is that the designer s inner and cultural concepts are expressed. Second, in the poster of Oriental, the Oriental Blank shows the Emptiness ideas of Buddhism, the Moderation ideas of Confucianism, and the Inaction ideas of Taoism. In addition, the blank of the Oriental besides the modeling function still contains the perceptual function. Moreover, the blank can represent the ideological theme of the work of art. Third, in the formative function of Oriental Posters, the Blank can draw attention. Blank and modeling combined to produce the effect of unfinished. Also, due to the plane features in the picture, blank and shape can be used together as modeling elements.

      • Changes in Median Ages at Death from Selected Cancer Types in Relation to HLA-DRB1/DQB1

        The median ages at death from cancers between 1985 and 2005 were calculated to demonstrate that inherent anticancer mechanisms may be a common pathway for different cancers. Seventy-eight patients with gastric, liver and lung cancers, were recruited in the solid cancer group. The leukemia group consisted of 31 patients with three main types of leukemia. The controls were 100 healthy individuals. The samples were typed using an HLA-DR/DQ PCR-SSP typing kit. The results showed that the median ages at death from all causes were 64.7 years in 1985 and 70.1 years in 2005. The range of the median ages at death from all cancers was similar to the corresponding value for deaths attributed to all causes. The frequency of $DRB1^*03$ was 9.6% in the solid cancer group and 3.0% in the control group (p<0.05). The frequency of $DRB1^*04$ in the leukemia group were significantly lower than that of the control (p<0.05). $DRB1^*13$ and $DRB1^*06$ frequencies in the leukemia group were significantly higher than those of the controls (p<0.05). It is suggested that inherent anti-cancer mechanisms may be a common pathway for different cancers and are associated with the immune system and HLA.

        Comparison of Liver Transplantation and Liver Resection for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients with Portal Vein Tumor Thrombus Type I and Type II

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of liver transplantation (LT) and liver resection (LR) for hepatocellularcarcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) and to investigate risk factors affecting prognosis. Materials and Methods: A total of 94 HCC patients with PVTT type I (segmental PVTT) and PVTT type II (lobar PVTT) were involvedand divided into LR (n=47) and LT groups (n=47). Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were comparedbefore and after inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW). Prognostic factors for RFS and OS were explored. Results: Two treatment groups were well-balanced using IPTW. In the entire cohort, LT provided a better prognosis than LR. Among patients with PVTT type I, RFS was better with LT (p=0.039); OS was not different significantly between LT and LR(p=0.093). In subgroup analysis of PVTT type I patients with α-fetoprotein (AFP) levels >200 ng/mL, LT elicited significantly longermedian RFS (18.0 months vs. 2.1 months, p=0.022) and relatively longer median OS time (23.6 months vs. 9.8 months, p=0.065). Among patients with PVTT type II, no significant differences in RFS and OS were found between LT and LR (p=0.115 and 0.335,respectively). Multivariate analyses showed treatment allocation (LR), tumor size (>5 cm), AFP and aspartate aminotransferase(AST) levels to be risk factors of RFS and treatment allocation (LR), AFP and AST as risk factors for OS. Conclusion: LT appeared to afford a better prognosis for HCC with PVTT type I than LR, especially in patients with AFP levels>200 ng/mL.

      • Matrine Reduces Proliferation of Human Lung Cancer Cells by Inducing Apoptosis and Changing miRNA Expression Profiles

        Matrine, a main active component extracted from dry roots of Sophora flavecens, has been reported to exert antitumor effects on A549 human non-small lung cancer cells, but its mechanisms of action remain unclear. To determine effects of matrine on proliferation of A549 cells and assess possible mechanisms, MTT assays were employed to detect cytotoxicity, along with o flow cytometric analysis of DNA content of nuclei of cells following staining with propidium iodide to analyze cell cycle distribution. Western blotting was performed to determined expression levels of Bax, Bcl-2, VEGF and HDAC1, while a microarray was used to assessed changes of miRNA profiles. In the MTT assay, matrine suppressed growth of human lung cancer cell A549 in a dose- and timedependent manner at doses of 0.25-2.5 mg/ml for 24h, 48h or 72h. Matrine induced cell cycle arrest in G0/G1 phase and decreased the G2/M phase, while down-regulating the expression of Bcl2 protein, leading to a reduction in the Bcl-2/Bax ratio. In addition, matrine down regulated the expression level of VEGF and HDAC1 of A549 cells. Microarray analysis demonstrated that matrine altered the expression level of miRNAs compared with untreated control A549 cells. In conclusion, matrine could inhibit proliferation of A549 cells, providing useful information for understanding anticancer mechanisms.

        Compensation On-line of Errors Caused by Rotor Centrifugal Deformation for a Magnetically Suspended Sensitive Gyroscope

        The aim of this paper is to design a centrifugal deformation error compensation method with guaranteed performance that allows angular velocity measurement of the magnetically suspended sensitive gyroscopes (MSSGs). The angular velocity measurement principle and the structure of the MSSG are described, and the analytical model of errors caused by MSSG rotor centrifugal deformation is established. Then, an on-line rotor centrifugal deformation error compensation method based on measurement of rotor spinning speed in real-time has been designed. The common issues caused by centrifugal deformation of spinning rotors can be effectively resolved by the proposed method. Comparative experimental results before and after compensation demonstrate the validity and superiority of the error compensation method.

        Molecular characterization of the sans fille gene in Antheraea pernyi: A highly conserved gene during the evolution of animals

        Sans-fille (SNF) is the Drosophila homologue ofmammalian general splicing factors U1A and U2B″, and plays an important role in sex determination in Drosophilamelanogaster. In this study, the snf gene fromAntheraea pernyi (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae), an economically important insect, was isolated and characterized. The obtained 925 bp cDNA sequence contains an open reading frame of 669 bp encoding a polypeptide of 222 amino acids,showing 78% sequence identity to that from D. melanogaster. A database search revealed that SNF protein homologs are present in many animals, including invertebrates and vertebrates, with more than 70% amino acid sequence identities, suggesting that they were highly conserved during the evolution of animals. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that A. pernyi SNF was closely related to Bombyx mori SNF. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that the A. pernyi snf gene was transcribed during five larval developmental stages,and in six tested tissues (ovaries, testes, silk glands, fat body, integument, and hemolymph),with the most abundance determined in the gonads (ovaries or testes). Investigation of expression changes throughout embryonic development indicated that A. pernyi snfmRNAwas expressed at a lowlevel fromdays 0 to 4, and reached amaximum level at day 10, but decreased to a low level before hatching. These results suggest that the product of the snf gene may play important roles in the development of A. pernyi.

        Production cross-sections of projectile-like isotopes in 112Sn + 112Sn and 124Sn + 124Sn reactions at 1A GeV

        Isotopic cross-sections of projectile-like residues produced in 112Sn + 112Sn and 124Sn + 124Sn reactions at an incident beam energy of 1A GeV are studied in the framework of the multi-source thermal model. The multiplicity-like distribution of neutrons in projectile-like isotopes can be successfully expressed by using the Erlang distribution which is the folding result of multi-exponential distributions with the same parameter. The results calculated by using the model are in agreement with the experimental data of Föhr et al. [arXiv:1106.5368vl [nucl-ex]].
