        凝視與現身 ―談臺灣工地書寫的抒情主體

        대만 ‘현장 서사(工地書寫)’가 최근 2년 사이에 일어나, 본문은 임립청, 증문창의 작품을 예로 들며, 그 차이를 비교하여, 논픽션 작품에서의 서정 주체를 탐구하였다. 임립청은 현장 주임으로 공사 현장의 일을 응시하고 있는데, 그 위치는 노동자이자 또한 노동자가 아닌 특수한 시야로 현장과 노동자들이 대만 사회에서 무시당하고 차별을 받는 것, 그리고 그중의 계급과 권력을 밝힌다. 철공 사부로서 인생역정, 가치관, 직업수칙을 스스로 밝힌 증문창은 자서전에 가까운 모습을 보였다. 서로 대조하여 대만 건설현장에서 쓰고 있는 서정의 주체인진(Authenticity)과 성(Sincerity)을 보여준다. The ‘construction site writing(工地書寫)’ has been popular in the past two years in Taiwan. This article takes Lin Li-Ching (林立靑) and Tseng Wen-chang (曾文昌)’s works as examples to explore the lyrical subject in non-fiction writing by comparing their similarities and differences. Lin, as the director of various construction works, puts his eyes on the people on the sites. As he holds double identities both as a worker and supervisor, he develops a special vision to reflect on the neglect and discrimination on construction workers in Taiwan society, as well as the issues of class and power implied. As a blacksmith, Tseng self-describes his life experiences, values, and professional codes in his book. The appearance is almost an autobiography. By contrasting these two authors, we can see the sincerity and authenticity of the lyrical subject in Taiwan’s construction site writing.

        凝視與現身 -談臺灣工地書寫的抒情主體

        臺灣「工地書寫」於近兩年間興起,本文以林立青、曾文昌作品為例,透過比較其異同,探究非虛構寫作中的抒情主體。林立青以工地主任凝視工地人事物,其位置既是又不是工人,憑藉特殊的視野照見工地與工人在臺灣社會中所受忽視、歧視,以及其中的階級與權力。曾文昌身為鐵工師傅,自我表述人生經歷、價值觀、職業守則,此一現身已經接近自傳的形式。兩相對照,正可看出臺灣工地書寫中的抒情主體的真(Authenticity)與誠(Sincerity)。 The ‘construction site writing(工地書寫)’ has been popular in the past two years in Taiwan.         敘事與訴說

        The definition of genres in Taiwan literature has undergone significant change in recent years. The transformation from “prose” to “non-fiction writing” manifests not only the confirmation of authenticity in the content, but also the innovation of expression in literary form. This paper discusses the emerging “Construction Site Writing” in Non-fiction writing and analyzes the formal expression of Lin Li-Ching (林立青) and Tseng Wen-Chang (曾文昌)"s works: Lin inherits the narrative skills from realistic literature and expresses the reality on construction sites through dialogue, vocabulary, dramatic structure, ending with negative sentences; Tseng represents his own construction site experience through a consistent narrator “I”, the chronological structure, and the use of words which are to make readers at the scene. Through the investigation of these two authors, it can be known that the focus of the Construction Site Writing should not be the issue of qualification of its writers, but rather, we should focus on how literary form is used to reflect the reality on the construction sites and how it presents the life situation on the sites.

      • Urinary Metabolite Profiling Combined with Computational Analysis Predicts Interstitial Cystitis-Associated Candidate Biomarkers

        <P/><P>Interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC) is a chronic syndrome of unknown etiology that presents with bladder pain, urinary frequency, and urgency. The lack of specific biomarkers and a poor understanding of underlying molecular mechanisms present challenges for disease diagnosis and therapy. The goals of this study were to identify noninvasive biomarker candidates for IC from urine specimens and to potentially gain new insight into disease mechanisms using a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based global metabolomics analysis of urine from female IC patients and controls. Principal component analysis (PCA) suggested that the urinary metabolome of IC and controls was clearly different, with 140 NMR peaks significantly altered in IC patients (FDR < 0.05) compared to that in controls. On the basis of strong correlation scores, fifteen metabolite peaks were nominated as the strongest signature of IC. Among those signals that were higher in the IC group, three peaks were annotated as tyramine, the pain-related neuromodulator. Two peaks were annotated as 2-oxoglutarate. Levels of tyramine and 2-oxoglutarate were significantly elevated in urine specimens of IC subjects. An independent analysis using mass spectrometry also showed significantly increased levels of tyramine and 2-oxoglutarate in IC patients compared to controls. Functional studies showed that 2-oxoglutarate, but not tyramine, retarded growth of normal bladder epithelial cells. These preliminary findings suggest that analysis of urine metabolites has promise in biomarker development in the context of IC.</P>

        離散時代:以蔣曉雲八0年代以後小說為例

        After the Chinese Civil War, the Republic of China on Taiwan and the People’s Republic of China in the other side of Taiwan Strait had become rivalries. Among people of R.O.C. who leaved Mainland China toward Taiwan with the government are called ‘Waishenren(外省人)’, and people who leaved before the defeat of government toward Hong Kong or the US are become Ethnic Chinese. Because of the transfer of these people at 1949, the diaspora of half-century has begun. Although Chiang Hsiao-Yun(蔣曉雲) was born in Taipei, her parents were the outcome of such dispersed group. In this research, I have gone in depth analyzing Chiang Hsiao-Yun’s novels after she had settled in the US about 1980’s, discussing the abroad students of Taiwan in the US, outlanders and dispersed common. Some of these characters of her novels are based on existing individuals that comes from her parent’s generation and others came from people she had encountered. By adding her composing, imaginations and fabricating, these novels reflected immense collectives that experienced the days of diaspora. These three types of characters each have faced their own destinies, physical and mental problems and they all struggle to overcome these issues through relating and returning to the significance and connotation of ‘home’. Instead of the nation which is still changing in political imagining, a stable family of clear, definite consanguinity becomes the core of their life in diaspora.

      • Elimination of moving vehicles effects on modal identification of beam type bridges

        The modal parameters identified under operation conditions are normally employed for bridge damage detection. However, the moving vehicles are usually deemed as part of the operation conditions without considering their mass property. Thus, the identified modal parameters belong to the vehicle-bridge system rather than the bridge itself, which would affect the effectiveness of subsequent damage detection. In this paper, the effects of moving vehicles on the identified frequencies and mode shapes under operation conditions are investigated via finite element model. The necessary of considering the moving vehicle effects is demonstrated by comparing the modal parameters variations induced by the moving vehicle and bridge damage. Then the empirical formulas to eliminate the moving vehicle effects considering the vehicle mass, velocity, bridge span and relative position are established by using the orthogonal test and least square method. Finally, examples are conducted to verify of the effectiveness of the proposed empirical formulas.

        Adaptive Controller Design for Switched Stochastic Nonlinear Systems Subject to Unknown Dead-zone Input via New Type of Network Approach

        In this article, adaptive tracking control for a class of switched stochastic nonlinear systems subject to unknown dead-zone input using multi-dimensional Taylor network (MTN) is studied. Firstly, the characteristic function is introduced to convert the nonlinearity of the input dead-zone into a linear model. Secondly, a novel adaptive control method based on the backstepping recursive design technique is proposed, which combines MTN and common Lyapunov functions (CLFs). Significantly, a method to reduce the computational complexity of switched stochastic nonlinear systems is proposed for the first time, which introduces characteristic function and MTN technology. The result makes clear that the proposed controller can ensure all signals of the closed-loop system are bounded in probability, and the output of the system can track reference signal well. Finally, the effectiveness of proposed control method is verified by simulation results.

        Evaluation of suitable qRT-PCR normalization genes for various citrus rootstocks

        Citrus rootstock can modify plant growth and enhance stress resistance. There are many genotypes and species used as citrus rootstocks. Although multiple citrus rootstocks whole genome sequence and transcriptome databases have previously been published, no suitable internal reference genes have been investigated for standardization of gene expression via quantitative real-time PCR. Here we reported the first systematic and comprehensive analysis of reference genes for quantitative real- time PCR standardization in various citrus rootstocks. The expression stability of ten candidate reference genes in diverse sample subsets of flooding, drought, alkaline and cold treatments was evaluated using four statistical algorithms, geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper and ΔCt method. The results demonstrated that the expression stability of reference genes varied under different experimental conditions. In addition, normalization of gene expression of 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase 3 (NCED 3), involved in abscisic acid biosynthesis, was conducted to further confirm the reliability of the reference genes. Overall, EF-1α, DIM 1, GAPC and UBC expressed much more stably. ACTIN and GAPDH were not recommended for normalization in given experimental conditions due to low stability. Our main contribution was to identify reference genes with suitable and stable expression in citrus rootstocks varied across selected experimental conditions. Furthermore, these results will provide valuable information for future research on citrus rootstocks.

        A wavelet finite element-based adaptive-scale damage detection strategy

        This study employs a novel beam-type wavelet finite element model (WFEM) to fulfill an adaptive-scale damage detection strategy in which structural modeling scales are not only spatially varying but also dynamically changed according to actual needs. Dynamical equations of beam structures are derived in the context of WFEM by using the second-generation cubic Hermite multiwavelets as interpolation functions. Based on the concept of modal strain energy, damage in beam structures can be detected in a progressive manner: the suspected region is first identified using a low-scale structural model and the more accurate location and severity of the damage can be estimated using a multi-scale model with local refinement in the suspected region. Although this strategy can be implemented using traditional finite element methods, the multi-scale and localization properties of the WFEM considerably facilitate the adaptive change of modeling scales in a multi-stage process. The numerical examples in this study clearly demonstrate that the proposed damage detection strategy can progressively and efficiently locate and quantify damage with minimal computation effort and a limited number of sensors.

      • A Highly Facile and Specific Assay for Cancer-Causing Isocitrate Dehydrogenase Mutant Using <sup>13</sup>C<sub>4</sub>-Labeled α-Ketoglutarate and Heteronuclear NMR

        <P>Isocitrate dehydrogenase mutations with neomorphic activity of converting α-ketoglutarate to 2-hydroxyglutarate have been found in many types of cancers. We report an NMR-based assay specific for the mutant using <SUP>13</SUP>C<SUB>4</SUB>-labeled α-ketoglutarate. It can be done in a complex mixture without extraction, give time-dependent absolute quantitation, and be applied to enzyme inhibition studies.
