Analytical Determination of Multilayer Waveguide Modes

We present a new analytical method for determining guiding modes in multilayer planar waveguides based on a few simple equations. Compared to the existing numerical approaches, this method enables us to perform easy and accurate numerical calculations of the effective indices, the field distributions, and the mode numbers of the guiding mode for a general N-layer waveguide.
Elastic Properties of Nd3+-Ion-Doped LaSc3(BO3)4 Single Crystals

Brillouin light scattering was used to evaluate a whole set of elastic constants for a Nd:LaSc3(BO3)4 single crystal doped with 15 at.% of Nd3+ ions : c11 = 241, c12 = 158, c13 = 89, c15 = 26, c22 = 296, c23 = 119, c25 = .29, c33 = 188, c35 = 0.7, c44 = 51, c46 = .29, c55 = 52, and c66 = 100 GPa. The elastic properties indicate that the structure is monoclinic as measured by X-ray measurement, but has some trigonal symmetry. We also evaluated the biaxial refractive indices ny = 1.825 and nz = 1.752 at a wavelength of 514.5 nm with nx fixed at 1.819.

We have performed Brillouin scattering experiments to investigate the elastic properties of tetragonal symmetry single crystal PbMoO₄. and could determine the value of birefringence as well as the whole elastic constants. As a result, c_11=111.4±4.4, c_12=64.7±3.4, c_44=27.0±0.8, c_13=51.9±2.5, c_33=95.5±1.9, c_66=34.5±4.6 and c_16=15.8±1.2 (×10^9 N/m²) and n_0-n_e=0.151±0.018 .

정방정계의 단결정인 PbMoO₄의 탄성특성을 조사하기 위하여 브릴루앙 산란 실험을 수행하였으며 모든 탄성계수 뿐만 아니라 복굴절(birefringence) 값도 결정할 수 있었다. 그 결과, c₁₁=111.4±4.4, c₁₂=64.7±3.4, c₄₄=27.0±0.8, c₁₃=51.9±2.5, c₃₃=95.5±1.9, c_(66)=34.5±4.6 그리고 c_(16)=15.8±1.2 (×10^9N/㎡)이었으며 n。-n_e=0.151±0.018 이었다. Experimental Evidence for New Pinning Conditions in Strongly Pinned Permalloy Film

Experimental evidence suggests that spin pinning conditions for standing spin mode in polycrystalline Ni?₄Fe₁? alloy film, is confirmed using the four categories of Camley et al. and the value of q⊥ for the pinning conditions, this was achieved by performing Brillouin light scattering measurements. The value of q⊥ was observed, in order to increase at a rate of π/2 with an increasing mode number. With this condition, the coexistence of standing spin wave modes was shown, with intermediate pinning, in addition to free and strong pinning. The values for spin-wave-stiffness constant (DB), g-factor (g), and surface magnetization (4 πM) of the Permalloy film were obtained from the results of BLS, and determined to be DB=1.85 ± 0.05 Oe㎠, g=2.11 ± 0.02, and 4 πM=8.7 kG, respectively.
