A Study on the Furniture Characteristics of Sharing Space in the community lifestyle of Fujian Tulou, China

        Shao, Xiao Yue(소효월),Park, Seongah(박성아) 한국전시산업융합연구원 2019 한국과학예술융합학회 Vol.37 No.2

Tulou as the famous of its technic of architecture and community lifestyle attract our attention. As the symbol of “Congregate Housing” in the past, how they live in this sharing space? What"s their lifestyle? What are their needs for furniture in the community space in the past? What kind of furniture is suitable for them? Based on these questions, we started with three steps to study it. Firstly, we started to research with Hakka`s lifestyle and people who live in Tulou. Studying Hakka`s lifestyle is the most important metrics to explain why Tulou`s unique architecture, sharing space and furniture formed. After knowing the reason, we needed to find out what their characteristics of lifestyle are. Derived from three aspects which are environment, culture and lifestyle. Secondly, through literature review and field research, we analyzed what the characteristics of their furniture are. We categorized the corresponding examples such as chairs, tables, benches, and cabinets from traditional life and modern life to illustrate how and why they were used for. Lastly, we investigated the suitable furniture for this kind of sharing space and community, and came up with suggestions how we could adapt these characteristics in the design for our modern life. At the end, we found out that how the people of diverse culture and community living formed into Tulou`s lifestyle, how they created a semi-privacy space to coordinate between private and public life, and how they saved more space. These findings can be meaningful to provide theoretical and practical guide for the design of furniture in the sharing space nowadays.

KaAhl, a Novel N-Acylhomoserine Lactonase from Kushneria avicenniae and Attenuated Effect on the Virulence of Erwinia carotovora

        Yue Su,Mengru Shao,Tianying Li,Ling Lin 한국생물공학회 2021 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.26 No.3

N-acylhomoserine lactones (AHLs) are autoinducers found in gram-negative bacteria and are ubiquitous in common plant pathogenic bacteria. N-acylhomoserine lactonase degrades the lactone ring of AHLs to achieve quorum quenching of phytopathogenic virulence genes. In this study, a novel AHL lactonase gene KaAhl was successfully cloned and identified from Kushneria avicenniae strain DSM 23439. KaAhl is encoded a 261-residue polypeptide belonging to the metallo-β-lactamase superfamily. The recombinant enzyme displayed maximum hydrolysis activity of 0.64 U/mg toward N-(3-oxooctanoyl)-L-homoserine lactone substrate at 30oC and pH 8.0. Besides, it had moderate thermal stability but exhibited a high salt tolerance showing approximate 50% relative activity in the presence of 35% concentrations of NaCl. Furthermore, the KaAhl was significantly promoted by Mn2+ and Ni2+, which enhanced the lactonase activity to approximate 100% extent. In addition, it was observed that recombinant Escherichia coli BL21-pET28a-KaAhl producing KaAhl proteins could effectively inhibit the plant pathogenicity of Erwinia carotovora for 72 h, which might have great potential for controlling gram-negative pathogenic bacteria.

Structure-based design, structure–activity relationship analysis, and antitumor activity of diaryl ether derivatives

        Shao-Mei Yang,Fu-Nan Li,Zhi-Ning Huang,Zhong-Shi Zhou,Jin Hou,Man-Yi Zheng,Li-Juan Wang,Yu Jiang,Xin-Yi Zhou,Qiu-Yue Chen,Shan-Hua Li 대한약학회 2015 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.38 No.10

To identify novel therapeutic agents to treatcancer, we synthesized a series of diaryl ether derivatives. Structure–activity relationship studies revealed that thepresence of a chlorine or hydroxyl at the para-position onthe phenyl ring (5h or 5k) significantly enhanced antitumoractivity. Compound 5h had stronger growth inhibitory activityin HepG2, A549, and HT-29 cells than compound 5k,with IC50 values of 2.57, 5.48, and 30.04 lM, respectively. Compound 5h also inhibited the growth of other cells lines, including Hep3B, PLC/PRF5, SMMC-7721, HeLa, andA375, with IC50 values of 2.76, 4.26, 29.66, 18.86, and10.21 lM, respectively. The antitumor activity of compound5h was confirmed by a colony forming assay. Further, our results indicated that the antitumor activity ofcompound 5h may be mediated by enhancing expression ofp21 and cl-caspase3, and leading to apoptosis of cancercells.

Evaluation of the composition and fumigant toxicity against Plodia interpunctella of essential oils from Ajania potaninii and Ajania fruticulosa

        Shao Yazhou,Ning Anqi,An Yue,Hou Zhibo,Zhou Feng,He Chuyu,Zhang Ji,Liang Junyu 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.4

Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is a worldwide omnivorous pest. It is the pri mary insect pest in many economically important stored crops. The insecticidal activity of essential oils (EOs) extracted from Ajania potaninii and Ajania fruticulosa were evaluated against Plodia interpunctella. EOs obtained by hydro-distillation were analyzed by GC–MS. Fumigant toxicity testing indicated that both EOs and their main components were toxic to P. interpunctella adults. 1,8-Cineole exhibited the strongest activity, having an LC 50 of 0.86 mg/L air and being twice as active as camphor. Myrtenol was also strongly toxic to P. interpunctella adults (LC 50 0.99 mg/L air), while camphor, verbenol, borneol, and the two complete EOs exhibited lower toxicity. None of the EOs or main components exhibited significant toxicity against the larvae of P. interpunctella. This study provides evidence of the individual active substances accounting for the insecticidal activity of EOs from A. potaninii and A. fruticulosa. These EOs have potential as biological insecticides for controlling insect pest damage in stored crops.

      • Roles of Immunohistochemical Staining in Diagnosing Pulmonary Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Yan, Yue,Zhang, Ya-Xiong,Fang, Wen-Feng,Kang, Shi-Yang,Zhan, Jian-Hua,Chen, Nan,Hong, Shao-Dong,Liang, Wen-Hua,Tang, Yan-Na,He, Da-Cheng,Wu, Xuan,Zhang, Li Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.2

Background: Differentiating morphologic features based on hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining is the most common method to classify pathological subtypes of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, its accuracy and inter-observer reproducibility in pathological diagnosis of poorly differentiated NSCLC remained to be improved. Materials and Methods: We attempted to explore the role of immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining in diagnosing pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma (SQCC) with poorly differentiated features by HE staining or with elevated serum adenocarcinoma-specific tumor markers (AD-TMs). We also compared the difference of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation rate between patients with confirmed SQCC and those with revised pathological subtype. Logistic regression analyses were used to test the association between different factors and diagnostic accuracy. Results: A total of 132 patients who met the eligible criteria and had adequate specimens for IHC confirmation were included. Pathological revised cases in poor differentiated subgroup, biopsy samples and high-level AD-TMs cases were more than those with high/moderate differentiation, surgical specimens and normal-level AD-TMs. Moreover, biopsy sample was a significant factor decreasing diagnostic accuracy of pathological subtype (OR, 4.037; 95% CI 1.446-11.267, p=0.008). Additionally, EGFR mutation rate was higher in patients with pathological diagnostic changes than those with confirmed SQCC (16.7% vs 4.4%, p=0.157). Conclusions: Diagnosis based on HE staining only might cause pathological misinterpretation in NSCLC patients with poor differentiation or high-level AD-TMs, especially those with biopsy samples. HE staining and IHC should be combined as pathological diagnostic standard. The occurrence of EGFR mutations in pulmonary SQCC might be overestimated.

Electrospun PS/PAN Nanofiber Membranes Formed from Doped Carbon Nanotubes with a Fluffy and Multi-scale Construction for Air-Filtration Materials

        Weili Shao,Wanli Yue,Gaihuan Ren,Chen Cui,Junpeng Xiong,Ling Wang,Tong Lu,Wanjun Bu,Fan Liu,Jianxin He 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.5

Electrospun nanofibers are widely used in air-filtration materials because of their fine fiber diameter, small poresize, and high porosity. However, nanofiber membranes exhibit a dense structure, such that they present a large resistance toany air flow. In this study, we set out to design and develop composite nanofiber materials with fluffy structures, as well asblended structures of coarse and fine fibers, through electrospinning technology. These materials could be used in airfiltration applications, given that they offer high efficiency and low resistance. The results show that, compared with purePAN nanofibers, the diameter of PAN nanofibers doped with CNT decreased from 192.36 to 124.37 nm; when the spinningratio of PS coarse fiber (1053 nm) and PAN/CNT fine fiber is 3:1, the resulting nanofiber membrane materials has an obviousthree-dimensional structure, with a specific surface area of 103.16 m2/g, a pore size of 2.25 μm, and a quality factor of0.0947 Pa-1. Under test conditions featuring an air flow of 32 L/min, and 0.3 μm NaCl aerosol particles, the filtrationefficiency was 99.37 % and the resistance was 35 Pa. Furthermore, the dust-holding capacity of the nanofiber air-filter paperwas found to be almost the same as that of melt-blown air-filter papers. Even after being water-soaked 50 times, the filteringefficiency of the nanofiber air-filter paper was still higher. Interestingly, the nanofiber membrane materials doped with CNTalso exhibited excellent sound-absorption abilities. Thus, the composite nanofiber material could potentially be applied toareas with serious air pollution and high noise pollution.

Characteristics and Impact Factors of Renal Threshold for Glucose Excretion in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

        Xiao-Dan Yue,Jing-Yu Wang,Xin-Rong Zhang,Ju-Hong Yang,Chun-Yan Shan,Miao-Yan Zheng,Hui-Zhu Ren,Yi Zhang,Shao-Hua Yang,Zhen-Hong Guo,Bai Chang,Bao-Cheng Chang 대한의학회 2017 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.32 No.4

Sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors are newly developed but promising medicine for type 2 diabetes. However, patients with a different renal threshold for glucose excretion (RTG) may have a different reaction to this medicine. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics of RTG and its impact factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The clinical and laboratory data of 36 healthy individuals and 168 in-hospital patients with T2DM were collected and analyzed, RTG was calculated using blood glucose (BG) measured by dynamic BG monitoring, urinary glucose excretion (UGE) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). The characteristics of RTG were investigated. The risk factors for high RTG were analyzed using non-conditional logistic regression analysis. Our results found that RTG of the T2DM group was higher than that of the healthy individuals (P < 0.05); and 22.22% from the healthy individuals group but 58.33% from the T2DM group had high RTG. Age, duration of diabetes, body mass index (BMI), and homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) were independently associated with high RTG (P < 0.05). Further stratified analysis revealed that RTG in T2DM patients increased with age, duration of diabetes, and BMI. In conclusion, RTG is increased in patients with T2DM, especially in those with longer diabetic duration, higher BMI, and those who are older. Therefore, these patients may be more sensitive to SGLT-2 inhibitors.

Experiments and FEM Simulations of Fracture Behaviors for ADC12 Aluminum Alloy Under Impact Load

        Yumei Hu,Yue Xiao,Xiaoqing Jin,Haoran Zheng,Yinge Zhou,Jinhua Shao 대한금속·재료학회 2016 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.22 No.6

Using the combination of experiment and simulation, the fracture behavior of the brittle metal named ADC12aluminum alloy was studied. Five typical experiments were carried out on this material, with responding datacollected on different stress states and dynamic strain rates. Fractographs revealed that the morphologies offractured specimen under several rates showed different results, indicating that the fracture was predominantly abrittle one in nature. Simulations of the fracture processes of those specimens were conducted by Finite ElementMethod, whilst consistency was observed between simulations and experiments. In simulation, the Johnson-Cook model was chosen to describe the damage development and to predict the failure using parametersdetermined from those experimental data. Subsequently, an ADC12 engine mount bracket crashing simulation wasconducted and the results indicated good agreement with the experiments. The accordance showed that ourresearch can provide an accurate description for the deforming and fracture processes of the studied alloy.
