Bolted end plate connections for steel reinforced concrete composite structures

In order to improve the constructability and meanwhile ensure excellent seismic behavior, several innovative composite connection details were conceived and studied by the authors. This paper reports experimental results and observations on seismic behavior of steel beam bolted to reinforced concrete column connections (bolted RCS or BRCS). The proposed composite connection details involve post tensioning the end plates of the steel beams to the reinforced concrete or precast concrete columns using high-strength steel rods. A rational design procedure was proposed to assure a ductile behavior of the composite structure. Strut-and-tie model analysis indicates that a bolted composite connection has a favorable stress transfer mechanism. The excellent capacity and behavior were then validated through five full-scale beam to column connection model tests.

The leafhopper Cicadella viridis (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae), a sap-sucking insect, is a notorious pest of fruit trees and seedlings. They harbor “Candidatus sulcia merii” which is an obligatory symbiotic bacteriumhoused in a special organ called the bacteriome. In this study universal eubacterial primers 27F and 1513R were used to amplify approximately 1462 bp of symbiotic bacteria 16S rRNA gene fromC. viridis. Cloning, sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis targeting the 16S rRNA gene revealed the presence of bacteria stably associated with C. viridis, and a Rickettsia endosymbiont was detected for the first time in this species. Rickettsia endosymbiont localization was studied using quantitative PCR which showed that it was found in all developmental stages. It was also co-localized in the bacteriomes, ovaries, testes, guts, and salivary glands. The chigger mite Leptotrombidium sialkotense is one of the 6 main vectors of scrub typhus in China. Before present study, L. sialkotense was found in some parts of Hunan province, China with a narrow geographical distribution. During field investigation 2016-2017, we found L. sialkotense in Jingha, southern Yunnan, China. Of 15 small mammal host species, L. sialkotense were collected from 6 species of the hosts. Rattus brunneusculus was a dominant host of L. sialkotense, from which 98.3% of the mites were collected. The chigger mite showed a relatively high infestation prevalence (PM=11.7%) and mean abundance (MA=0.5) in comparison with the rest 5 host species. These results reveal a certain host specificity of L. sialkotense to a rat R. brunneusculus. The mite L. sialkotense showed an aggregated distribution on the host (P<0.05). A positive correlation observed between L. sialkotense and the body length of hosts. There was a positive interspecific association between L. sialkotense and 2 other dominant vectors, L. deliense and L. scutellare.
Geopolitics and Regionalism : China`s New Silk Road: Where Does It Lead?

We analyze the driving forces behind China’s New Silk Road (NSR) initiative and find that they not only included short-term factors, such as the US “rebalance” of forces in Asia and China’s economic slowdown since 2012, but also long-term factors such as China’s ambition to recover its past glory and integrate itself still further into the global economy. We then look at the external challenges facing China’s initiative, such as geopolitical competition, fear of overdependence, and political instabilities along the old silk routes. We highlight China’s policy dilemmas and discuss the sustainability of China’s NSR initiative and its implications for the world. Our conclusion is that China’s initiative could be in for a rocky road, but if it strikes a good balance between its diplomatic objectives and means and its values and actions, the NSR could speed up regional integration. A Cognition-inspired System for Data Stream Clustering

In applications such as target detection, domain knowledge of sensed data is often available. In this paper, we incorporate the available domain knowledge into clustering process and develop a knowledge-driven Mahalanobis distance-based ART (adaptive resonance theory) clustering algorithm. The strength of the knowledge-driven algorithm is that it can automatically determine the number of clusters with improved clustering results. The validity of the new algorithm has been verified on four artificial datasets. In addition, the algorithm has been adopted in our cognition-inspired system for clustering data stream, where known target library and dispersion of feature or attributes are available. The basic idea of this system is to divide data stream into frames, and to incorporate knowledge learned in previous frames into clustering of the following ones. Experimental studies have demonstrated that the evolving learning mechanism leads to improved clustering results compared with conventional incremental clustering algorithm Fuzzy ART and batch-based clustering algorithm k-means.

Two novel coordination compounds $[Cu_2(pypya)_3(H_2O)_2]{\cdot}Cl{\cdot}(H_2O)_5$ (1) and $\{[Cd(pypya)(ta)_{1/2}]{\cdot}H_2O\}_n$ (2) (Hpypya=2-(3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)acetic acid, $H_2ta$=terephthalic acid) were synthesized and characterized by single X-ray diffraction. Structure determination reveals that complex 1 and complex 2 crystallize in the triclinic system, with the P-1 space group. The asymmetric unit of 1 contains two Cu(II) ions, and their coordination modes are different. These units of complex 1 are linked together via hydrogen bonds and ${\pi}-{\pi}$ interactions, and the 3D structure of complex 1 was formed. Complex 2, a mononuclear Cd(II) coordination compound, has a 2D structure which was constructed via coordination bonds. TGA and fluorescence spectra analysis of complex 1 and complex 2 have also been studied. In addition, the geometry parameters of complex 1 have been optimized with the B3LYP method of density functional theory (DFT) to explain its coordination behavior. The electronic properties of the complex 1 and ligand Hpypya have been investigated based on the nature bond orbital (NBO) analysis at the B3LYP level of theory. The result verifies that the synergistic effect have occurred in the compound.

Relative to Chinese, as to Naxi Language, its corpus is very rare, its annotation is also difficult, and these factors make its Syntactic Analysis much too difficult. Aiming to the problem, in the paper, it is proposed a method for building Naxi Language Dependency Treebank based on Chinese-Naxi Language relationship alignment. Firstly, the corresponding words of Chinese-Naxi sentence pairs are aligned; then, the dependency grammar on Chinese sentences; Finally, some characteristics and rules of Naxi Language in itself being considered, the generated Chinese Dependency Tree is mapped to Naxi Sentence by using Chinese-Naxi Languages relationship alignment, as a result, Naxi Dependency Parsing Tree is generated. Experimental results show that: This approach can simplify the process of manual collection and annotation of Naxi Treebank, and save manpower and time to build the dependency treebank of Naxi Language.
