        The Lung Function Impairment in Non-Atopic Patients With Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Its Correlation Analysis

        Objectives. Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is common disease in otorhinolaryngology and will lead to lower airway abnormality. However, the only lung function in CRS patients and associated factors have not been much studied. Methods. One hundred patients with CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNP group), 40 patients with CRS without nasal polyps (CRSsNP group), and 100 patients without CRS were enrolled. The difference in lung function was compared. Meanwhile, CRSwNP and CRSsNP group were required to undergo a bronchial provocation or dilation test. Additionally, subjective and objective outcomes were measured by the visual analogue scale (VAS), 20-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-20), Lund-Mackay score, Lund-Kennedy endoscopic score. The correlation and regression methods were used to analyze the relationship between their lung function and the above parameters. Results. The forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and forced expiratory flow between 25% and 75% of forced vital capacity (FEF25-75) of CRSwNP group were significantly lower than other groups (P<0.05). On peak expiratory flow, there was no difference between three groups. In CRSwNP group, FEV1 was negatively correlated with peripheral blood eosinophil count (PBEC) and duration of disease (r=–0.348, P=0.013 and r=–0.344, P=0.014, respectively), FEF25-75 negatively with VAS, SNOT-20 (r=–0.490, P=0.028 and r=–0.478, P=0.033, respectively) in CRSsNP group. The incidence of positive bronchial provocation and dilation test was lower in CRSwNP group (10% and 0%, respectively), with both 0% in CRSsNP group. The multiple linear regression analysis indicated that change ratio of FEV1 before and after bronchial provocation or dilation test were correlated with PBEC in CRSwNP group (β=0.403, P=0.006). Conclusion. CRS leading to impaired maximum ventilation and small airway is associated with the existence of nasal polyp. Lung function impairments can be reflected by PBEC, duration, VAS, and SNOT-20. In CRSwNP patients, PBEC is independent predictor of FEV1 change ratio.

        Formulation and Evaluation of Less-Painful Clarithromycin Lipid Microspheres

        Lipid microspheres (LMs) have recently been use as drug carriers for intravenous use due to its low toxicity, good physiological tolerance and the reduction of the drug related side-effect. In this study, clarithromycin was incorporated in LMs, in an attempt to reduce the pain caused by intravenous use. The composition of the drug loaded LMs was clarithromycin 0.5%, oil phase 10%, soybean phospholipid 2%, egg lecithin 0.5%, Sodium oleate 0.1%. Clarithromycin LMs was prepared by high pressure homogenization method at 80 MPa for 8-10 cycles. The mean particle size and surface charge of LMs were $208.7{\pm}7.8nm\;and\;-23.6{\pm}2.3mv$ respectively. Clarithromycin entrapment efficiency in LMs was 66.4%. Drug loaded LMs was stable during the storage time at $6{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ for 9 month, and the particle size and zeta-potential did not change significantly. Drug concentration in LMs was 5 mg/mL, and there was no drug degradation during long term storage. Animal tests (rat paw lick test and rabbit ear vein irritation test) were used to evaluate the pain reduction of clarithromycin LMs compared with that of clarithromycin aqueous solution. These results suggest that the LM system is a promising option to replace clarithromycin aqueous solutions as an intravenous treatment.

      • An Iterative Image Dehazing Method With Polarization

        <P>This paper presents a joint dehazing and denoising scheme for an image taken in hazy conditions. Conventional image dehazing methods may amplify the noise depending on the distance and density of the haze. To suppress the noise and improve the dehazing performance, an imaging model is modified by adding the process of amplifying the noise in hazy conditions. This model offers depth-chromaticity compensation regularization for the transmission map and chromaticity-depth compensation regularization for dehazing the image. The proposed iterative image dehazing method with polarization uses these two joint regularization schemes and the relationship between the transmission map and dehazed image. The transmission map and irradiance image are used to promote each other. To verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, polarizing images of different scenes in different days are collected. Different algorithms are applied to the original images. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme increases visibility in extreme weather conditions without amplifying the noise.</P>

        A method to analyze the difference of 3-D CAD model files based on feature extraction

        To quickly find the changes in two 3-D CAD model files and enhance the efficiency and security of transmission in the CAD collaborative design system, a method to compare and analyze the differences of 3-D CAD model files is proposed. First, the feather information of CAD files was extracted using APIs of CAD software and stored in the neutral feature file. Then, analyzing and comparing the feature file, the information about adding, updating and deleting was obtained by the given algorithm. Finally, the information was rendered and showed to users in a readable method. The application in Catia validated that the proposed method is feasible and valuable in engineering.

        Tuning the Optical Orbital Angular Momentum of a Focused Gaussian Beam in an Optical Supperlattice under the Electro-optic Effect

        In this paper, we theoretically propose a new method to generate and tune the optical orbital angular momentum. A focused Gaussian beam passing through an optical superlattice under the electro-optic effect carries orbital angular momentum (OAM). This kind of OAM arises from the curl of the polarization. By adjusting the external electric field, the beam waist radius and the crystal length, we can obtain a dramatic variation of the OAM across the output light transverse section. This invention will find applications in the area of optical manipulation.

        Quantitative analysis of carbon emissions in precision turning processes and industrial case study

        With growing concerns regarding the global environment, the industrial sector has played a significant role; that is, it is responsible for consuming large amount of energy and resources, while simultaneously producing wastes and carbon dioxide. A quantitative calculation of carbon emission in the turning process is presented in this paper. A generic carbon emission system boundary based on exergy balance is proposed first to avoid blurred system boundaries or the omission of elements. Then, a carbon emission model (iERWC) is formed by converting energy consumption (E), resource depletion (R) and waste generation (W) to equivalent carbon emissions (C) based on information flow (i), which effectively solves the problem of quantifying the impact of the machining process on the environment. Finally, the model is verified by experiments, and a simulation analysis is carried out. Additionally, the influence rule of processing parameters on carbon emissions is analyzed, and the cutting parameter that produces the lowest carbon emission is given.
