Perinatal asphyxia is one of the most important factors contributing to neonatal morbidity and mortality. However, no clear-cut parameters exist which enable an early identification of neonates who are at risk to develop brain damage. We measured creatine kinase(CK), CK isoenzyme, AST, ALT, LDH in full term asphyxiated(n=35) and healthy(n=39) newborns at 6-10 hours after birth to establish the values of these enzymes in the retrospective diagnosis of asphyxia and if serum levels of these enzymes correlated with the abnormalities of neurosonography or auditory evoked potential. The asphyxiated newborns had significantly increased serum activities of CK-BB(93.5±160.8 IU/L) and CK-BB%(11.1±12.4%) compare to controls(39.2±37.2 IU/L, 3.9±3.4%). However, there were no significant differences in the enzyme activities between normal and abnormal groups of neurosonography or auditory evoked potential. It is concluded that elevated CK-BB and CK-BB% are reliable indicator of the neonatal asphyxia. But the predictive value of specific enzymes for the development of neurologic disorders is not clear. Prospective long-term follow up studies are necessary to evaluate the predictive value of enzyme activities for the neurologic outcome.

The atrium in a building is a popular design skill due to its aesthetic, open appearance. It is relatively inexpensive to build and maintain atrium, and also we can expect energy saving effect. But its indoor space is thermally different from typical space because of its tall and large shape with top light. The upper part of atrium has the thermal problem of overheating during summer season. As one of the measures to solve this problem, the ventilation windows near the top light can be used. In this study, the vertical temperatures in the atrium were measured and analysed to understand the thermal environment in the atrium and the effect of ventilation window to reduce the overheating at the upper part of atrium. The ventilation windows were proved to have the effect to lower the temperature of the upper part of atrium as 3.8℃ at the condition of outdoor air temperature of 28℃.

Green Building is a sustainable building preserving the environment and saving energy and aims to provide the comfort indoor environment. KIER Green Building is the first Korean green building which was adopted the technologies of energy and resource conservation and in and outdoor environment preservation. In order to verify the luminous environment of green building and to convince the effect of daylight through atrium, the lighting environment element of KIER Green Building such as illuminance was measured and analyzed.

Energy problem of our country is very serious and the energy import is being increased continuously. To solve the problems related to energy and environment, many countries including our country have prepared and carried out various certification programs to disseminate environmentally friendly buildings. The purpose of this study is to investigate the basics and category systems of domestic green building certification criteria and to utilize it as reference materials for developing integrated criteria applicable to all buildings.

Myelodysplastic syndrome(MDS) is a group of acquired conditions characterized by progressive bone marrow failure associated with normocellular or hypercellular bone marrow that cannot be attributed to nutritional deficiency, chronic infection, or other chronic systemic illness, and cannot be reversed by the successful treatment of those conditions. Whereas the cases of secondary MDS occur at all ages, primary MDS is essentially a disease of elderly, though no age group is exempt and predomonant in men. The MDS is fundamentally clonal disorders at the level of the haemopoietic totipotent stem cell. Clinically, they are characterized by varing degrees of peripheral cytopenia(s) with morphological and functional abnormalities of blood elements. We have experienced two unrelated pediatric cases, who showed pancytopenia on admission and the characteristic marrow findings of MDS. The first case, a 12 months-old girl, showed increased reticulin with abnormal localization of immature precursor cells(ALIP) in her bone marrow, in addition to dysplastic features such as bi-and multi-nucleation of late normoblasts and internuclear bridging. She also showed 22% of blasts in her bone marrow cells thus classified in the category of RAEB-t after FAB classification. Also found were a chromosomal abnormality namely 46 XX t(14q21q), which was an unusual one. Her family brought her home and, 4 month later, she deceased. The second case, a 12 year-old boy, showed pancytopenia with Pseudo-Pelger-Huet anomaly in neutrophils but no blasts in the peripheral blood. Bone marrow of this case also showed the picture of dyserythropoiesis with binuclearity, internuclear bridging, nuclear fragments, multinuclearity of late normoblasts, in addition to megaloblastoid change in the normoblasts and increased mitosis in granulocytic series. No chromosomal abnormality was found. Classified as RA after FAB classification of MDS. Showed good response to conservative management for anemia for more than one year.
Clinical Manifestation Patterns and Trends in Poststreptococcal Glomerulonephritis

Poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (PSGN) is one of the most recognized diseases in pediatric nephrology. Typical clinical features include rapid onset of gross hematuria, edema, and hypertension, and cases are typically preceded by an episode of group A β-hemolytic streptococcus pharyngitis or pyoderma. The most common presenting symptoms of PSGN are the classic triad of glomerulo nephritis: gross hematuria, edema, and hypertension . However, patients with PSGN sometimes present with unusual or atypical clinical symptoms that often lead to delayed diagnosis or misdiagnosis of the disease and increased morbidity. Additionally, the epidemiology of postinfectious glomerulonephritis (PIGN), in cluding PSGN, has changed over the past few decades. This paper reviews atypical clinical manifestations of PSGN and discusses the changing demographics of PIGN with a focus on PSGN.

Current headlighting and road lighting are only partly effective in reducing the risk of driving at night. Various forms of night vision enhancement systems, using a variety of sensing technologies, are being developed to further reduce this risk. Two major sensing technologies are receiving particular development interest and are both currently available on new vehicles: far infrared(FIR) systems and near infrared systems(NIR). Recently, a New regulation is prepared to protect pedestrians in EU. This will make a vehicle more equipped to enhance forward vision and pedestrian detection. This paper deals with performance evaluation method of night vision system in Lab. and proving ground. Here, we used automated in-lab test facility, which consists of a dynamometer, a rail system and a driving simulator. That can perform repetitive and accurate tests. In proving ground, we tested night vision system’s detection capability.

In a Vehicle, Safety is the most important factor for drivers. It is well known that tire pressure lower than normal reduces the safety of the vehicle. In a consideration of active safety, tire pressure monitoring system is absolutely required. Tire pressure monitoring using in-tire pressure sensors with an RF data link has proven to be the best approach to measuring tire pressure over the widest range of operating conditions. In this paper, we describe the parameters of TPMS, the characteristics of a tire and temperature compensation. These are the main factors to design the decision logic. We will show the guidelines for TPMS logic development considering environment variables and vehicle conditions.
