RB Retinol-binding protein(RBP) plays an important role in the specific transport of retinol to target cells through the blood stream in higher vertebrates. In order to clarify the effects of 4-nonylphenol(4-NP) on RBP mRNA expression in the rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli which is common in coastal waters of Korea and commercially important species, the cDNA library was constructed from the liver, and a partial fragment of the RBP gene was cloned. The deduced amino acid sequence from the RBP mRNA showed a high homology to the amino acid sequence from Sparus aurata(80%), Oncorhynchus mykiss(72%) or Anguilla anguilla(78%). Effects of 4-NP on RBP and vitellogenin(VTG) mRNA expression level in rockfish were examined by the northern blot analysis. In female and male rockfish injected with 4-NP(10 mg/kg BW, lower dose), there was no changes in the levels of VTG mRNA expression in the liver. The RBP mRNA levels, however, decreased at 48 hours after the injection in male. In the rockfish injected with 4-NP(25 mg/kg BW, higher dose), the level of VTG mRNA expression increased after 24 hours, regardless of sex. The level of RBP mRNA expression decreased at 48 hours after the injection in both sexes. These data indicate that estrogenic mimics such as 4-NP exhibit a contrasting effect on RBP and VTG gene expression in rockfish.

Takayasu arteritis is briefly defined as an inflammatory process occurring almost exclusively in females in the reproductive age and most commonly involving the great vessels arising from the aortic arch resulting in stenosis and eventually in obliteration or thrombosis. We experienced a case of Takayasu arteritis, so we report a case and review the related literature.

Hydronephrosis, which is a common disorder of childhood, may be secondary to a number of abnormalities of the urinary tract. A kidney containing more than 1,000ml fluid in its collecting system is generally defined as giant hydronephrosis. The common clinical manifestations of giant hydronephrosis are abdominal distension and loin or abdominal pain. The patient seems to seek medical help late due to tolerable symptoms and particularly in the state of poor economic condition. We present a giant hydronephrosis of contents of 7,000ml associated with ureteropelvic junction stricture on a 8-year-old male. The final diagnosis was performed by exploration of abdomen and nephrectomy was done.
Patterns of Taenia asiatica Egg Emergence on the Perianal Region of the Host

Taenia asiatica, newly named by Eom and Rim in 1993, is a tapeworm morphologically similar to Taenia saginata 1782 Goeze. The eggs of these tapeworms usually emerge on the perianal region of the infected person. Patterns of T. asiatica egg emergence were observed on different occasions ; immediately after spontaneous discharge of the gravid proglottids, immediately before and after shower bath. The eggs always emerged right after the spontaneous discharge of the gravid proglottids and continued positivity until the next shower bath. On the other hand, defecation alone did not induce egg positives on the perianal region even though the stool contained many gravid proglottids.
